Momwagon 2.0 - the Subaru formerly known as Racewagon

Recommended Posts

Let me reintroduce myself.  I’m a wagon obsessed lady and picked up an absolute legend of a wagon from @boxkita back in 2022.  This past winter it moved into our shop garage and got the motor from momwagon after it got a refresh. My husband pulled so many late nights to get it track worthy again, and touched every single item in the car.

Last weekend we shook it down at Mid-Ohio and apart from a new tune and replacing a coolant hose it performed flawlessly.  We had our friend and pro-driver Tom take it out for a session too and he was surprised, with his only two comments being “how much power does it make!?” and “it did everything I asked it to”.

At Ozarks International Raceway this weekend and the wagon is asking a lot of me.  It has zero chill, and is just so god damn fast with the combination of the high compression and the “snake oil” vf52 makes it a rocket. It is so different than my full interior track car, I’m learning that I need much less input in every way to get the same result as before.

As the season, and 20+ days on progresses I will continue to update the thread.

Keep an eye on your front control arms, my driver side failed at the track yesterday and sent me home 😕 Guess 15 seasons was enough to give up the ghost…

I have the aluminum fronts.  With 2 years and 50 track days on my previous wagon the only suspension issues I had were worn bushings and a cracked upright.

Glad to hear they are holding up, kicking myself for not putting in the aluminum Spec B units earlier, especially since I have a pair sitting in my garage just waiting to be put in.  First time I've ever seen the OEM steel units fail...

Great to see the wagon out there again!

@shralp If it makes you feel better weirdly my front left control arm snapped about 6 years ago, turning around in a parking lot. Pulled the axle out of the trans drained most of the fluid right there.

Oh wow thats worse than mine for sure!  Was able to get in on the trailer in the paddock but its definitely got to stay straight once I pull it off to to get it on the lift.

I'm bummed I never got to drive it. I drove Kip's after he put in the cage. Can only imagine how much more rigid it would be with the grand-am cage.

Suspension should be all new with the full whiteline setup @SgtGator arranged and the specb aluminum parts.

@subie-roo do you have video you can share?

My husband did a reference lap on my Garmin, I will upload it and post later.  It is an absolute handful and a rocket out of the corners with the power recipe we used from my other wagon. It will take me some time to get acclimated, and I will continue to post progress through the season.
