moddingbug
Hey guys, Just picked up a stock 2005 Legacy 2.5GT wagon. Checked the driver side fuse box and noticed a weird switch and some loose wires. Anyone have this in their car? I don't see any extra wires ran to the engine bay either... choover1101
That is aftermarket, my guess a lightbar, undercar lighting or accessory horn. That is not a factory Subaru install and is a basic switch available at almost any auto parts store. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
moddingbug
Thanks for the quick confirmation! I'll trace where it goes once I do my black interior swap.

Mechazilla
Am I the only one who would have tried the switch? And or wire it back together and try it?

Mechazilla
No idea where the other end is supposed to go otherwise I think I might have tried it. Any progress with this mystery? Does the car run? Have you looked at the back of the switch? I'm going to presume those wires connected to it.
moddingbug
No, haven't messed with since. Waiting for my spec B interior to arrive in a week before I start tearing through things. Car drives fine, will get to the bottom of this soon!
ScottFW
Is it a manual transmission car? I sell little kits to defeat the clutch starter interlock switch on MT cars, so the car can be started without stepping on the clutch. Some people wire that defeat to a switch, and that little driver's side fuse box would be the logical location for one. If you connect the wires and can then start the car without stepping on the clutch, but cannot do so with the wires unconnected, that's what it is. Mr-C
Maybe a switch to disable the ABS (many have done it) ??
moddingbug
Thanks for both ideas! I would try to connect the wires but there is no sign of where it was connected previously.
moddingbug
Update: Started installing my 2008 Spec B black dash panels. Turns out I'm still missing some things to make the pieces fit well. Anyway, here's a shot of the back of the switch. The wire appears to run across the back of the radio to the passenger side. I'll chase it down once I finish tearing down the rest of the dash.
moddingbug
Update: Turns out this wire runs behind the radio and is connected to a Super SCA Tuner. I have no idea what this is and Google doesn't have much info on it either. JDM Double-Din kit arriving soon so I'll be tearing this out if anyone wants it. Febreze Mee
Thought about this thread the other day and was going to suggest it to be a brake light kill switch, but I see it's been discovered. I don't know many people who have just casually installed or tampered with their brake light switches anyway. I have considered it. It could be a decent police countermeasure when doing a little spirited driving. Not recommending this or encouraging anyone to do this. As long as brake light mods that no one would do or recommend that anyone else should do are being discussed, it might be wired to be both a kill and an on switch. It could be used to show brake lights to folks up in your backside without actually touching your brakes. But no one would do this, nor should they. Febreze Mee
Right, right, right. Not that any one would, or even should do this, but I have seen it before. It was not beyond the realms of possibility that this could have in fact been a brake light kill/on switch. But no one would do this, nor should they.
