I used to work at the 3rd largest Mercedes Benz dealer in the USA. To paint a picture, we sold 400new and 200 used Benzes a month. Located in Bethesda Maryland, our clients were basketball players, attorneys, congressman, CHief of staffs for the president etc....Point being alot of people with alot of money. Yet one thing stood out to me more than anything. These people buy 100k cars and put Dolce & Gabanna cloths on their kids backs and talk on satelite phones,...YET, they show up with CHEAP 39.00 child seats , some that are recalled and many that test mid pack with safety test.

Back to this world. We spend 1000.00 on front mounts, 2k on coilovers, 2k on body kits, 3k on wheels,....YET............our kids who we adore sit in some times at best a Eddie Bauer child seat. Seats that test and fair OK in the NTSB child safety test.

Myles - is that mold growing on the seat? 3rd pic...

It looks like a synthetic fabric, which would explain the kinda shine it has (the stuff that looks like mold) It's most likely caused by the angle of the little fibers that stick out, some are straight and others are angled in patches, ect...

Take it easy baby, no need for this meanness. We should keep it peaceful, homeboy, Jesus!

Hmm...what happens to the seats if the side curtain/airbags are deployed on a S-class? Also, if you have your hand on the door (you know the small place you can rest your arm) and you have a side airbag on the door, and if you hand was on the armrest, but gripping the bar thing, wouldn't the impact of the airbag to your arm shatter it?

wow..those look really nice and really expensive....I guess ya can't put a price on safety and piece of mind though. Just pray your kid doesn't spill his juice or milk on it....that would be a bitch to clean.

RACECOMP Is Right, Don't skimp on your Child's Seat!!

That seat RaceComp shows is the Recaro Young Style. They retail for about $130.00. The Young Sports are even nicer, have even more saftey designed in, and of course cost more as well (retail around $250..Picture Below)...

However, the Recaro's are forward facing seats only. Don't be tempted to turn your little one around at the 18 lbs minimum Recaro uses as a lower limit specification, keep your little one rear facing as long as possible, it is the safest!! (Up to 33lbs for the better seats like the Britax Boulevard, Marathon and Roundabaout)

The Boulevard is one of the top rated seats currently, with what Britax calls "True Side Impact Protection" This seat is good rear facing to 33 lbs, and forward facing to 65 lbs. Retails is about $290 for these.

P.S. -- Too Bad that Subaru spent so little effort on making the backseat friendly to car seat installs. Three differend CSP (Certified Car Seat Inspectors) told me that Subaru has been notorious for being difficult to properly install a seat in, and providing poor options. After the ordeals I've been through outfitting our '05 Outback for our Daughter, I'd have to agree. My Wife wants to buy a new car over it, and I'm not necessarily sure I can argue with her on it!

I have my 5 yr old daughter in the Recaro Start in my LGT. Unbelievable seat. I think it's actually nicer than the O.E. front seats in the car! Very high quality construction, high level of adjustability, I feel very comfortable with her in that seat, and highly recommend it. Had Britax seats when she was younger, liked those as well.

I had 3 NJ State Troopers spend about 1 hour trying to install my son's Gracco infant seat. Tried every position had all sorts of trouble. This weekend he moved into a Britax Marathon rear facing. My question now is how in the hell does Britax expect you to get him in and out around the overhead latch strap? The car seat is stable but it appears that it will also be very difficult to deal with until he sits forward facing.

Should have posted this last Friday! Might have changed my purchase decision.

Good Post Myles.

I researched the Recaro Start when my wife was still pregnant with our girl. She is now 15 mos. old and I still am looking at getting the Recaro seat when she is bigger.

For now, she rolls in a very well-reviewed seat. We Canadians are pretty strict with our safety ratings and guidelines.;)

What Gracco seat? It took literally 5 minutes to install mine and it was also certified.
