Partymix Posted May 13 Posted May 13 This weekend I cleaned as much rust off of the sway bars and rear calipers as I could, primed and sprayed black to look less crusty. Tonight fought with the brake lines, going to have to run 1 short one passenger-front and 2 really short rear runners. Then I can finally button up the brakes. 2
seanyb505 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 (edited) Repaired the sun shade catch rods on my spare sun roof frame. The left one was still available last year (65409ag010), but the right side (65409ag000) was nla everywhere. I pulled the right side rod from a junkyard 09 outback and just now got it all together. You'll have a tough time removing intact rods from a car - you'll basically need to either take the whole sunroof, or mangle the metal connection points to get the plastic ends out alive. Now I just need to clean the tracks and lube it up ahead of my next interior blow out. Edited May 13 by seanyb505 1

Infosecdad Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Almost 30 cu ft of garden soil, she squatted, but handled it easily. The rear is Bilstien B6 and King Springs KSRL (lowered Outback springs which are perfect for Legacy wagons). 8
zenzzz Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Finally got around to replacing the black replacement door handle my car came with. Turns out the BSM replacement I bought didn't have the metal stopper piece that allows for the exterior opening mechanism to remain taut. I finished the install but will need to double back and fix that somehow, maybe with a 3d printed piece. For now the door won't open from th exterior 5
BoozeRS05 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Installed blue tint JDM convex mirrors yesterday, courtesy of DoctorDave. Subtle, but nice upgrade. Love those 15 min mods. Need to replace my driver door handle with a color matching part too. 5 EB's Subaru journal - 2005 LegacyGT Wagon & 2014 Forester FB25 (2008 specB - RIP) IG@legacygtliving

Probably one or two more then I’m calling it quits for now. Rallitek Overload/Towing springs do a good job of handling the extra weight. Tho this is the 2.5i so I won’t say anything about cornering or acceleration with a few hundred pounds of compost in the back. Edited May 19 by KZJonny cornerin’ ? Beh. 3 Pronounced: Kay-Zed
ppk326 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Never vinyl wrapped anything before so the wrapping job itself is shoddy, but I wanted to change up the scratched / gauged plastic and the tired old shift boot. I think it came out ok, even if execution is lacking. The E-brake boot needs a change too, but I can't find anything that would match the shift boot and doesn't ship from US. 3
KZJonny Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Getting close…. Not the first time someone reinstalled a trans, but it is the first time I have installed one. So happy days. Can’t wait to install the big dog 6MT…. 4 Pronounced: Kay-Zed

Can’t wait to install the big dog 6MT…. That looks just like the underside of my XT - just imagine instead of everything being nice and clean, that aluminum LCA and everything else coated with an unholy amount of oil because the turbo drain hose is FUBAR and I don’t have the motivation/a lift to repair it in situ. I DID learn an interesting little tidbit, though - I need to check the build date on my ‘06, because a TSB was issued for ‘05-‘06 Legacy and Outback models for a TPMS related connector under the driver’s seat carpet that is prone to corroding if it’s exposed to moisture and throwing an ER SS…which I’ve seen alongside the ER HC that loves to rear it’s head. When I get around to that, I need to check the ECU wiring to see if there’s any signs of moisture/corrosion, too. The plot thinnens…
Febreze Mee Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Event #3 this season. I won my class on a technical (no one else showed for STX today). Current season standings results should be posted in the next week or two. Met some more great people. And the attention the wagon brings continues to reinforce how good of a decision all of us on here made to own a one variant or the other. Additionally, I received my new wheels from the motherland. 6 MILKRUN - Click Here

SilentJ20 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Been sort of 'offline' from this forum for a bit, so some things to update: (no pic, sorry) Installed WellVisors to try and minimize the amount of water that dumped onto the seat when it was beaded all on the roof. Didn't help much, and now I can't run the clamp-style roof rack. Might take them off... Needed a better solution for the trunk net, as the factory hooks back there just didn't work well for it. Installed riv-nuts on the metal support behind the carpet, and 3d printed some better hooks. Now the top of the net stays really secure. Also added some color to the interior. My original steering wheel was shiny and pitting from years of, not 'neglect' but not cleaning for long-term longevity. Someone local to me was selling an STI steering wheel with red stitching. Then, once I saw the red, I decided to take advantage of a sale online to get new shift and brake boots. Material is much thicker than the factory boots so things are very tight and the parking brake frame doesn't want to sit back flush to the console, but it's not super visible. 3
zenzzz Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Yea super interested in those. Pretty much the only places of wear in my interior are the shift and ebrake boots.
SilentJ20 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 (edited) I got the boots from redlinegoods. You can choose materials, stitching, etc. Mine shipped from Poland, so it's a bit of a wait. Edited May 20 by SilentJ20 1

I mean, I appreciate the token little plastic things that come with the car…. But let’s be real here. They’re nice for a few bags of groceries, but the first time I emergency stop with a keg in the back, I’m afraid of the consequences…. This has me back to thinking about this problem. Something as simple as rivnuts and eyehooks may be the solution. Pronounced: Kay-Zed

Something as simple as rivnuts and eyehooks may be the solution. My only issue is the lower hooks. Right now they're just attached to carpet and doing well enough since they don't take weight. But I want to find something better for the bottom.

I don't really know the layout of the sedan trunk, but funnily enough, I actually own a Spec B at the moment, so I should go take a look and learn a thing. Hah! I'm far too caveman to be able program a 3d printer, but I can weld? So I figure I can make something work. It was more your post was an inspiration to maybe try to find a solution before too long, and I just had the rivnut tool out on the weekend. Someone, (I think @jaylew) had said something about replacing all the popits that hold the fender liners in with rivnuts and SS fitting. Given the depth of hatred I have for plastic push-in fasteners I thought I would give it a go..... Let's just say I'll be buying another couple bags of SS rivnuts and fasteners before long. I already replaced almost all of the push fittings under the engine bay with rivnute and SS bolts, so why not carry on..... Edited May 20 by KZJonny 1 Pronounced: Kay-Zed

The height and load capacity are just about perfect.
amptramp Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) I traded in my blue 2009 Legacy Wagon on a white 2019 Subaru Impreza sport model. I may return here from time to time but I am now headed to the Impreza forums to take my fair share of abuse. It had 324,000 km on it and has had two wheel bearings replaced already and another was beginning to howl. Edited May 21 by amptramp 1 2

I’m not rushing into anything, but since the XT appears to need struts (unconfirmed, but it is definitely a bit floaty….) and the one I have on the GT are some JDM takeoffs, it may *almost* make sense, at least in the sick Subaru tragic kind of way to donate the JDMs to the XT and get some freshies for the GT. Been too busy working on other things and installing the trans do anything with anything else right now. Perhaps a problem for when I install the STi rack and will need an alignment anyway. In for a penny in for a pound? Dew it. I’ve got JDM Spec.B (sedan) takeoffs with King KSRS-29s on the XT and it’s great. You might have to throw some adjustable rear control arms on it to nail the alignment though…if you care about the XT enough LOL
