I almost got a '13 or '14 STi because I wanted a hatch, but the prices were stuuupidly high. The back seat is big enough to get some tall people in there. The trunk is bigger than you think because of the wide pass through. What does piss me off is they deleted the integrated roof rack. I mean WTF SoA?

Favourite hatchback years for the STI :wub:

Yeah, they look nice, but for me, they have 2 drawbacks:

1) less leg room in the back (important for me - I have two tall daughters..)

2) people are asking almost new prices for cars with 30-40k miles on them..

Freshly de-badged

Winter solution: Kosei K6R 17x7 with General Altimax 215/50R17. If these don't work, we'll spring for the Hakkas. Seems a shame to use these Kosei on a Winter set....they are so light and the finish is very nice.

A quick run up to the Canukistan border and back. This thing can carry ludicrous speed on broken up back roads. So wow, many funs.

Finally got my finger out and got the Winter set-up on.

Kosei K6R 17x7 with General Altimax 215/50R17. 16.8lb vs 24lb made of concrete OEM rims, and 23lbs vs 29lbs for the OEM Dunlops; roughly 13lbs of unsprung weight per corner. With the narrower width and big floppy sidewalls it feels like driving on gravel all day. Did you say rotation at, "normal", speeds?

Windows 7 laptop is on order to run EcuFlash & RomRaider. Definition is getting worked on. T00ning begins soon.

So I might be making a road trip to the other Portland in Oregon. Any advice on routing or required accessories?

I've heard going through Canada is the way to go. as for required accessories idk... false bottom trunk?

Ok, I made it to Iowa City in 1.25 days. Today I got to Cheyenne.

The worst part of the trip so far was I-290 in Mass. Figures. Stop and go for an hour. Got some heavy rain in Chicago.

Iowa

Deicer is frozen - cold enough?

Some observations on my speed-dating version of the great American road trip:

1) If I get zapped by another Ka band radar, I'm going to need lead undies

2) Waze + Radar detector is a great system for avoiding the po-po.

3) WTF is with Indiana drivers? Of all states people with Indiana plates were most likely to block the left lane and then get upset if you passed. Ohio drivers come second.

3) Never stay in a Super8. Never.

4) Why does Iowa and Nebraska hate 93 octane? No performance cars?

An STi is not my first choice for a long road trip, but the seats are comfy. Road noise and short gearing detract from the experience. Also, at 80mph in 12F temps, the cup holders act like a fridge.

Tomorrow: Idaho

+1million!!

The second is actually IL drivers in other states. They are so use to crowded roads they dont think to move over.

Being a somewhat recent IL to WI transplant, Wisconsin drivers are even worse about that. You can literally watch it happen while you're driving around Rockford on I-90, traffic slowly shifts from one side of the road to the other. I'd agree that Illinois drivers don't always realize they're doing it, but I'm pretty sure the first thing they teach people in driver's ed up here is that the right lane is lava.

I-65 heading down to Indy, though, doesn't get much worse than that...

Have you guys ever been to jersey? its almost like the right lane is the passing lane, i hardly ever touch the left lane when I'm there.... and not for lack of passing.

stop driving up north! come down to Texas! our speed limits are 70-85 on the interstates and if you're not going 90, the rigs will run you over. You get to opt for defensive driving or deferment if you're going upto 20mph over the limit... So, on that 80 limit, 100mph.....

*note: I have to behave till March for my latest deferment*

And in Texas things will be really bad when someone whispers snow.

Just stay safe - the truck driver got a lesson though and at least you will get a lot of winter driving experience! :)

Special thanks to utc_pyro for his work on the definition!
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

We're out of the deep freeze and Summer tires are back on.

I'm not nearly as ambitious as our friend Frederick, so we'll start easy - Group N engine and transmission mounts and a front shifter bushing to ease the first/second gear yoyo effect, plus an anti-stumble kit. PMU pads have arrived and are ready for install.

Next up is an ELH, DP, fuel pump, 3-port BCS and a PS cooler.
