It doesn't make sense for me, living in Socialist, Bleeding Heart, Over-Sensative Environmental Greenie California with very strict emissions laws and monitoring, to go thru the hassle of removing and reinstalling an FMIC every 2 years to pass a smog inspection. That's why I want the best TMIC possible, and BONUS, it fits under the factory engine cover so I don't clue off the smog technicians that there be aftermarket parts on this here car.

Since our cat is pretty buried and difficult to even see, the TMIC will be hidden under the engine cover and looks pretty stock that way, and my car isn't obnoxiously loud, I am betting I can easily pass both the OBDII hookup AND the visual inspection at Stage2 no questions asked, and there's no sweat off my back swapping things out just for the inspection.

One day, probably when I am nearing retirement, I will have 2 complete motors. One stock running Stage1 or Stage2 and one built, a Stage3+ forged internals motor running a huge turbo and FMIC, and I will have the time to swap the whole shabang every two years. I don't have that kinda time right now.

I wonder if anyone has failed inspection because of an intercooler. Technically it isn't part of the emissions control system not anymore than the air filter is anyway.

...I'm still going to grab this, but was offered a chance at a decent of Brembos so I'll likely have to pass on the group buy. Howere, since it's for the WRX I know Grimmspeed will still be producing them when I'm finally ready even if it is a little more. However, if I could have sold some wheels I'd be in too

Trust me in CA anything that is not factory is a failure. Unless you have a CARB sticker you are SOL

w w w w wait a second there Mister!

Are you saying that I may not pass smog :p

"It's within spec" - SOA

As far as passing a visual goes:

If you look under the side of the engine cover, there is a pretty good chance that you'll see our logo cast onto the end tank. So if you had any worry at all about not passing, I would just swap the stock intercooler back on.

You'll see how easy it is to install our intercooler. Because it uses a straight coupler at the throttle body, it ends up being even easier and faster than installing/uninstalling the OEM intercooler.

And this isn't an exaggeration, but you're looking at about a half hour total to remove the GrimmSpeed TMIC and installed the OEM TMIC. It really is that easy.

And I just want to re-mention that the Group Buy does end today in case anyone else is interested, now would be the time to sign up!

...I'll get it later, just not in the gb. It really looks like the best intercooler option available for our cars.

thanks for the link. will only the tmic fit or will the charge pipe too.

Only the TMIC will work for us. Unfortunately the hood scoop splitter won't work either but as the pics show, we can run it with the factory engine cover to hood scoop seal after the engine cover is trimmed a bit to account for the thicker core. When I get mine I'm going to try to custom fab up a splitter to work with the lower piece of the Grimmspeed splitter.

charge pipe will not fit. Our turbo is different for sure, and I think the bpv is different as well.

The turbo flange will bolt up and the BPV is in the correct location. The biggest problem, at least when I tried the Process West Cp was in the length and orientation of the pipes. Not trying to correct anyone and it won't fit either way, just figure we should have the best info possible.
