Radiator problem / possible head gasket pop..?

Recommended Posts

Few days ago i woke up to see coolant under the front of my car

Noticed the radiator was busted and the temps was good all the while the day before

I changed to a mishimoto rad but now I'm have trouble with air in the system...a friend mentioned i could have a busted head gasket but i didnt overheat...

Noticed bubbles coming up in the overflow bottle

You need to be really careful refilling these engines with coolant. Ideally you would get a dedicated burping funnel, that would help purge all the air out. Bubbles coming out will be normal for a while if the system wasn't properly burped. Does coolant spurt out when you give it revs with the radiator cap off? That would mean there is in fact a head gasket issue.
I put something here like all the cool people, except there's nothing cool to put here.

Jack RF corner up as high as possible and remove the reservoir cap (NOT the radiator cap) and let it run until it heats up and start adding coolant slowly into the reservoir. You need to have a way for the air to get out of the system and that puts the turbo coolant reservoir up as the highest point.

It will take a bit of time, but you'll eventually have it all burp out.

ok i checked to car again 2day..

checked on the thermostat before i tried what Jm told me to do

On checking there wasnt a thermostat there

So im a bit lost as to why the radiator cracked, it never had a high temp and i religiously check fluids every morning an saw no signs of fluid drop.. :iam:

So worse case i may have a blown gasket.. :icon_conf

Are you telling us you pulled the neck off the water pump and there was no thermostat there ?

The OEM plastic radiator is know to crack when someone leans on the top of it. It can happen without you or someone even realizing they are leaning on the radiator.

If you have not done what JmP told you to do, raise the right front corner, take off the cap on the turbo coolant tank, start the engine and let the fans cycle and watch for bulbs in that tank.

You need to do that. That will burp the air out of the system.

Did a full timing belt job new waterpump( went closed impeller)

New oil pump ( went 11mm) upgraded upper turbo resovoir to mishi alum

Aand ive got coolant bursting from my new overflow

Friend thinks its hg's...

Poss cracked ringlands

Ive been doing the burping process like above

Glw yours tho

Ive also changed/ upgraded anciliary hoses

Have u messed with them at all?

Are u running an aos?

thx...

ive got coolant pouring from my overflow bottle too so i think we in the same boat..lol

i've never been into the engine since i bought it in feb this yr just did maintance etc

i dont hav an AOS on the car yet but i plan to get 1 after i get it repaired

but all the symptoms point to gasket being blown an no bad idle so i think the rings an pistons are good..

MAX...no1 leans on my car worse yet to lean on my engine bay..

but thanks for the heads up in that aspect

Your radiator cracked because hot, super-pressurized exhaust gasses are getting into the system (if in fact it's HG failure).

I caught my HG when the bubbles in the overflow were still very small, almost like champagne bubbles. Sounds like yours has made it to the geyser stage?

A hydrocarbon tester is what repair shops use to tell if you have exhaust gas's in the coolant. Most repair shops will have one if you can drive the car there.

I don't think you know how the internet works

Videos are exponentially bigger in size than pictures. We are lucky to be able to host pics on the site to begin with. Videos would necessitate more storage. Are you going to pay up? Have you even donated?

Not sure you realize that moderators are just regular people helping out. They aren't getting paid. It's not their job to spoon feed you.

It's a generational thing. The generation who grew up with and understand the internet versus the generation that was born into it and doesn't understand a damn thing. The generation who understands is losing, much in the same way that I can't grow my own food and my great grandfather is spinning in his grave etc., etc.

Yeah, you should download tapatalk, i know that's hard to comprehend as the entitled millennial that you are, but if you step outside your safe space, you might be able to figure it out on your own.
