The BBPeik Swannee Engine swap

Recommended Posts

Thats right Ladies and Gentlemen. 7 hours and two engines removed. No problems and all went super smooth. Glad to have that done though, its Beer thirty for sure.. Here are a few pics and GTeaser I put a couple of the rack. Let me know if you need closer ones as I do have two LGT's minus the engine, so I should be able to get you what you need.

Well I managed to get my motor into swannee's car today. First step was to mount his factory clutch onto my block and after that wrestle it into the car. As always it was tough getting everything to line up, but got it done in the end. Tomorrow hope to have it running so he can come and pick it up.

Spent the afternoon finishing up Swannee's car. Got everything done at about 3. Started right up first try no problems. Of course his car had a stage three map and after the warm up cycle the car was not too happy about that. I reflashed it to the OTS stage 1 map and it has been purring like a kitten ever since. Just a few test drives and it will be all ready for him to come pick up.

1 down and 1 to go.

So I took Swannee's out for a test drive tonight. Ran really nice. I had never ran the Cobb OTS map before. Man does it blow compared to a stage 1 pro tune. Definitely glad I went the pro tune route when I first got my AP. Overall a success though. Motor seems good and all is well.

Oh yeah I also shipped my clutch back to Summit today. I will be ordering some goodies soon and then as soon as I get the clutch back the fun will really begin. I gotta say a huge thanks to Swannee for making all this possible. What an amazing opportunity. Both on the engine side and just for the chance to do a motor swap.

Ordered injectors, Fuel Pump and DP today. My new clutch should be shipping out soon as well. I am sending my Flywheel out tomorrow to be resurfaced so things should be coming together soon.

Went with Cobb 725cc injectors, DW200 FP and Invidia Catted DP. I am kinda shooting for a still somewhat Daily driver friendly but still pretty fierce combo. We will see how it works.

By the way. If I am merging the Invidia into my stock exhaust, will teh included gasket work or do I need to get a special exhaust donut? Thanks in advance.

You'd need one of these:

I can't remember if it came with the gaskets or not, so you might need those too.

Went ahead and installed the DW200 fuel pump today. Super easy, only took about 30 minutes. Plug and play to which was really nice. DW makes a real quality kit. For all those thinking about your filter and 60k maintenance. The first pic is my old pump with 75k miles to give you an idea of how dirty yours might be.

  • 2 weeks later...

Made quite a bit of progress today. Had to do quite a few modifications to fit the third O2 sensor in there, but in the end it all worked out great. Today I got the clutch installed, motor in the car, exhaust manifold and turbo mounted, exhaust mounted, Perrin Steering dampner lockdown installed, and the wiring for the wideband through the firewall. Not as much as I would have liked, but a good day overall. Oh yeah I also changed the oil on my wife's expedition as well. That kind of cut into my subie time.

Well Just finished everything. Fired right up first try. Runs great. I should be getting a safe map shortly from my tuner, and then it will be a couple weeks of tuning. After that it should be all good to go. I still need to wire up the wideband as well, but thats it.

So I just loaded the basemap that I got from Bren. First impressions are good. Just drove it a bit, but definitely more boost than my stage 1 tune, and this is just the base map. Idle is a little high, but again just the base map. I will be mounting the wbo2 this weekend and then I can start logging for the tune. So all is well so far. One thing I did notice that was weird is that the new injectors are quite noisy compared to stock. I even had my wife come out to rev it while I listened and it is for sure the injectors. Run great, just noisy.

You'll notice with the forged internals that the sound will be more of a clack sound than a tick a first until its runs a few minutes and things expand. Don't know how full builds you've been around to hear. Sometimes it reminds me of a diesel type sound or if you know anyone with 04-05 f150 they have a very distinct :tick

You'll probably here the initial prime of the engine more so with those injectors/pump. All of those are good sounds for the morepowers!! Just keep that sound in your mind so you know when something seems off/odd.

Hope the tuning goes well!! Quite the adventure for you both and glad everything is tiptop and working well.

...come help do mine :hide: great way for you to get away for a weekend ;)
