Footwell illumination for under $10

Recommended Posts

So rip out the whole dash to run 2 cables...holy crap that's ridiculous!! There's PLENTY of room just to feed them right down.

Although not surprising as I looked at installing the remote start a while back and they want you to do the exact same thing.

Hey guys! Just for people still interested in taking this fun project on! I had a little extra time at work and thought I would draw up a little diagram of the wiring, this worked for me and as far as I can tell this is how we are all doing it! Hope this helps anyone out there who is interested :)!

It's funny I actually referenced your diagram when I was doing my kit, so +1 for you haha...it wasn't anything personal I just knew I had a bit of a hard time reading it when I was looking at it :p

Nothing personal at all! lol, at least now others won't have to decipher it all :D

Doing this install this weekend!

Awesome! Hope it goes well for ya

How does the cup holder install work out? Any closer pics of what it looks like turned off (to see better)

Assuming you have to drill holes?

Yes it does require drilling. See this: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/15-legacy-outback-footwell-illumination-kit-237567.html?t=237567&highlight=footwell+lighting

Hey, just installed front footwell lighting, so easy!

Had a question though, does anyone know if there is a plastic cover to protect the LED? It looks as if there is a mounting point for a cover, but I haven't seen anyone talking about it? Would it come with the OEM footwell lighting kit? Anyone have a part #?

Just worried about passengers kicking the light....

Just realized I never put up a pic up of my fix for this...:spin:

I just took a cap from a spray bottle like this, trimmed it down to the length I needed, and hot glued it in place. Obviously if kicked hard enough it could still bust off but it'll protect it from everyday bumps and whatnot.

Also, here is a picture of the front footwell lighting with these LED's from Amazon, I think the color is almost a perfect match!

I apologize for asking such a foolish question. I've never worked with wire before but this seems doable, and looks amazing.

Will this suffice for the crimp connector? If not, could someone please direct me to the proper connector? Nybz, what is that black component? Where can I find that?

Thanks!

Very true. I only used the tab style crimp connectors keep the footwell panels removable if needed. For everything else pigtail and heat shrink/electrical tape is the way to, go unless you want to take the time to solder.

  • 3 weeks later...

You could tie into the dome lighting so it'd kick on when you open the door or unlock the car. If you still wanted it to work with the headlights you'd have to use 2 separate lights or set up a relay of some sort.

I remember seeing a kit on the Japanese website accessories list that had blue footwell lights and white "door open" lights integrated into one. Probably outrageously expensive though.
