  1. Yeah, I'll try to take some better pictures this week. Just had these already on the phone from a few months ago.
  2. Can you please post links for the wiring & harness kits you bought? I have a premium trim and want to do the same. Maybe we can work together and figure out a DIY for our different trim levels.
  3. Oh yeah, 100% agree. LKQ has major issues with part listings. They tried to charge me $700 for th base model radio, $400 for the limited navigation and $900 for a premium radio.... Out of control :spin: Just call and ask before you buy, the place I dealt with was great, they even texted me pictures to verify correct part and condition.
  4. Just depends how much you're willing to spend. There are several navigation used ones from $750 - $900, which I'm sure you can talk down another $50-$100. Check out http://www.car-part.com/ and do a search. I literally was looking for a decent priced navigation since last August / September when I started this topic. Also remember, you will be able to sell your old radio for around $300 to help with the cost of purchasing the navigation unit. - Good luck
  5. Success !!!!! After months of searching for a used Starlink Navigation from a Premium trim Legacy / Outback I finally found one at a junkyard in Pennsylvania. The installation is pretty straight forward and really only takes 5 minutes, no joke! I can only confirm that this works on a 2015 Subaru Legacy Premium (without Nav already installed) but don't see why it won't work on a Outback / or Limited trim. Total price for the install was $480 (Nav for $420, GPS for $60) Nav works great, I even called at got a Sirius XM Traffic subscription on it. Follow the steps below to DIY - A few cautions - When looking for a used / junkyard Nav unit online or in person, ensure you have seen the unit before purchasing. Many only sellers and junkyards have this unit either incorrectly labled or wrongly priced. If you have a premium trim, only Nav part #86271AL64A will work, if you use the NAV from a Limited trim the sound will not work correctly. Also, you will need a SD card for the NAV to work, some come with it, some don't. Other than searching for a long time for the correct part, this was a breeze! Check out my video on how to remove the Radio / Nav, it's easier than you might think - Prep - Tools Needed - a) Wrench to remove negative battery cable - b) Trim tool kit to remove vent & trim pieces - c) Phillps Head Screwdriver 1 - Buy the parts - - a) Navigation Unit / part #86271AL64A (price depends, $400 - $1200) - b) GPS Antenna / part # 86277AL60A (price new around $60) - c) 3M Double Sided Tape / (around $5 at a hardware store) - d) Trim removal tool kit (around $5-$10 online) 2 - Remove Radio - - a) Disconnect negative battery terminal - b) Remove vent above the radio - c) Remove lower trim piece for HVAC controls - d) Remove HVAC controls - e) Remove old Radio 3 - Install GPS / NAV - a) Remove metal bracket from GPS and install w/ 3M tape inside the dash - b) Connect radio connections & GPS to Nav unit - c) Reinstall HVAC, Trim & Upper Vent - d) Reconnect negative battery terminal - e) Enjoy your new NAV - Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll do the best I can to answer them.
  6. Just bought a nav from an East coast salvage yard. Had pictures sent to verify the correct model. Nav will be here Friday but won't have a chance to install until Monday since I'm out of town for a wedding. Really looking forward to installing the NAV, hoping it will work right! As far as I'm tracking, this would be the first time this has been done on our 6th Gen Legacy. Wish me luck! I'll defiantly write up a DIY after the install.
  7. Here's a breakdown of the radio part numbers in case anyone is confused! Base Radio - 86201AL62A Premium Radio - 86201AL64A Premium Nav - 86271AL64A Limited Radio - 86201AL66A Limited Nav - 86271AL66A
  8. Sucks man, I ran into a similar problem a while ago. Called up the salvage yard, was told they had the Nav model waiting for me. I drive an hour down there and they hand me a base model radio :spin: Looks like the only places I can find that will sell the NAV are wanting $800 - $1200. A NEW one from Subaru is $1200!
  9. Hey, I just had the bottom bracket on my seat replaced by the dealer and my noise is gone. Check out my video to see if yours is the same. I'm glad I took this video earlier in the week, the noise was persistent and would squeak all the time, day or night. Of course though as soon as I pull into the dealer the noise was gone. The service tech checked out the video and they had it figured out in about 15 minutes and had it replaced within 3 hours.
  10. If you have a limited, all you need to do is buy a GPS antenna and a Nav unit off a limited. GPS part# is 86277AL60A and the Nav part you need is #86271AL66A. As for the GPS antenna, it would be pretty labor intensive installing it in the OEM location. I just used double sided 3M tape and installed it behind the radio, reception is great and haven't had an issue. GPS antenna cost about $60 and a used Nav will run you $500 - $600. Trim tools are off of Amazon, I paid something like $5, they work great. I have the Nav unit you need for sale coincidentally, send me a PM if you want more info. Care to explain a little more ? I understand that you need to list / sell a Limited Nav, and buy a Premium Nav? If you have a premium or limited, all you need is the NAV unit and the GPS antenna.
  11. Yeah, going to sell it! Turns out there is a small part# change depending on if it's in a Premium or Limited (Limited Nav is 86271AL66A and Premium is 86271AL64A). Just bought a used NAV off a premium (part 86271AL64A) and will install it tomorrow. Yeah, I was surprised the dealer was that nice and didn't even charge me for it. It was Tacoma Subaru in case anyones wondering. Also made a quick video on how to take out the radio / nav... since I've done it like 3-4 times ha ha, It's really easy.
  12. Well, just got back from the dealer, they were messing with it for an hour and couldn't change the software from the HK sound system to the normal one. Said they had others try it, and that it would work if I got a unit out of another premium.
  13. Thanks man, My only hope is that the dealer can install the firmware for a Nav unit without the HK sound system (have no intention or capability of hacking it myself). I'll be taking a trip in tomorrow to see what can be done. Being optimistic, but hoping they can reset the unit, install the correct firmware and all is good. IF not.....
  14. Thought there was a place in the menu that showed the firmware... any help is much appreciated.
  15. Need your help - Can someone that has NAV on a Premium list their firmware version?
  16. It is out of a limited, just ran the VIN. Same part# for the Nav if it's in a limited or Premium though, so I would guess that it's something software related, ie. radio programed for HK vs Standard radio system... So there should be a way to change the software from the HK program to the standard audio? Thoughts ?
  17. Agh there's got to be a way around this, I don't want to give up! I don't see a different part # for the Nav units (if there was a Nav for HK & non HK cars). Does anyone know how to do a "hard" reset the Nav unit? I noticed this one still had Sirius XM channels saved, and when I plugged mine back in, it still had my favorite FM channels saved....
  18. Well, I was wondering about that Laz... so I thought the HK sound system only came in Limited models, but you could get NAV on a premium w/o the HK sound system ?
  19. So - tonight I took out the 7" Radio and installed the 7" Nav unit - A couple of issues.... The Nav is easy to install, all the plugs on the backside fit in great (with the addition of the GPS antenna). The Nav booted up fine, everything looked good until on the top it said "audio off" in green and then disappeared. I checked the map, everything worked fine and it found GPS signal fast, directions came up on the display by the speedo as well. Issues - When I tried to tune a radio station, it worked but was very quiet, turning up the volume on the unit itself of the steering wheel control, nothing happened. Then going into the audio settings, it wouldn't let me adjust anything.... Also noticed that there is an un-used port on the 7" Radio (circled in red) - anyone know what it's for? So.... any ideas what's wrong ? I checked the connections and everything seemed fine. Nav working fine - Untitled by AustinB747, on Flickr[/img] Anyone know what this port is for ? https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1606/24737191666_f947d9072a_c.jpg' alt='24737191666_f947d9072a_c.jpg'>Untitled by AustinB747, on Flickr[/img]
  20. Agh your right! Should probably put on my glasses and get a coffee
  21. Thanks for the pictures! Interesting how it's mounted with the antenna facing down, oh well - that's how I'll mount it! About the roof antenna - Also noticed that for 2016 they changed the roof antenna to a "shark fin" style since it has the added telematics. The 2016 antenna is about $50 painted as opposed to $30 for the 2015 antenna. Looks cool though, wonder if that could be switched out easily too (and just not use the telematics plug since I don't have it)
