andrew_l_s
So rip out the whole dash to run 2 cables...holy crap that's ridiculous!! There's PLENTY of room just to feed them right down. Although not surprising as I looked at installing the remote start a while back and they want you to do the exact same thing. rcoaster
So, that's why it's expensive. Probably 80% of the price goes to labor costs.

scrupul0us
How does the cup holder install work out? Any closer pics of what it looks like turned off (to see better) Assuming you have to drill holes? AirBorne1Cav
Hey, just installed front footwell lighting, so easy! Had a question though, does anyone know if there is a plastic cover to protect the LED? It looks as if there is a mounting point for a cover, but I haven't seen anyone talking about it? Would it come with the OEM footwell lighting kit? Anyone have a part #? Just worried about passengers kicking the light....
citadel
Just don't have a girlfriend with big feet! Seriously those leds are a lot tougher than a regular bulb.

Would it come with the OEM footwell lighting kit? Anyone have a part #? Just worried about passengers kicking the light.... Just realized I never put up a pic up of my fix for this... I just took a cap from a spray bottle like this, trimmed it down to the length I needed, and hot glued it in place. Obviously if kicked hard enough it could still bust off but it'll protect it from everyday bumps and whatnot. http://i.imgur.com/EXlhM3V.jpg Lighting Mods: $10 Footwell Illumination | Tail as Turn | Fog as DRL Diode Dynamics C-Lights | RX350 Bi-Xenon Retrofit

AirBorne1Cav
Hmm, I'll have to get that plastic bottle idea a try. Here is a picture of the area where the LED is mounted for anyone who is wondering. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/749/21159870691_4a5bce8f9f_c.jpg' alt='21159870691_4a5bce8f9f_c.jpg'>Subaru Footwell LED by AustinB747, on Flickr[/img]

thombob
Got my parts and installed my lights! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/10/2b3e62f07c9a7025aee8a6c872f8ac05.jpg 214427 I apologize for asking such a foolish question. I've never worked with wire before but this seems doable, and looks amazing. Will this suffice for the crimp connector? If not, could someone please direct me to the proper connector? Nybz, what is that black component? Where can I find that? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21WAKCQ3FIL._AC_UL160_SR160,160_.jpg Thanks! AirBorne1Cav
Yes that will work for a crimp / butt connector. The black device is an in-line fuse holder, you can buy it here - Scosche 0400ATCFH16-5 ATC Fuse Holder 16 Gauge 5 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008CVPE8C/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_wgN6vbQ3WHR6F
thombob
I already had the in-line fuse holder in my cart and didn't even realize that was it. I still have a lot of things to learn lol. Thanks AirBorne, I appreciate it!
securityguy
Butt connectors are not a very reliable way to make a connection. If you have the ability to solder and tape or heat shrink tube your connections, that's the best way to go.
andrew_l_s
Very true. I only used the tab style crimp connectors keep the footwell panels removable if needed. For everything else pigtail and heat shrink/electrical tape is the way to, go unless you want to take the time to solder. 3.0R-AUS
Has anyone been able to hook up footwell lighting so that they light up when the doors are opened?
citadel
Great question but it might depend on changing the power source from the emergency light to the doors switch and I'm not sure you could use both, but I'm not a "Sparky".
andrew_l_s
You could tie into the dome lighting so it'd kick on when you open the door or unlock the car. If you still wanted it to work with the headlights you'd have to use 2 separate lights or set up a relay of some sort. I remember seeing a kit on the Japanese website accessories list that had blue footwell lights and white "door open" lights integrated into one. Probably outrageously expensive though.
