Xenonk
I've been using some makeshift type of a tool to get it off but I want to get a REAL Torx bit for the MT drain plug (stupid subaru didnt continue using the 1/2" drive square bit and used a 6-pointed Torx bit plug instead).. anyone know the size? I am guessing it's something like at T60 or larger? The largest size I have is a T50 :/ Who knows the size? Keefe

Xenonk
thanks, it IS hard to find.. I'll have to resort to a snap-on rather than Craftsman for this one. Keefe
TSiWRX
Ayup, that T-70 is a biznatch to find....(edit: "locally" ) I'd let your fingers do the walking on this one, Keefe - and make sure the stores you call will hold the sucker for you for pickup, lest someone make off with it while you're on your way! <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family

forestir
Any idea why they'd do that? We all have the 1/2" drive... too many DIY screw-ups?

forestir
I could believe that if you had to buy it from Subaru... but why make Snap-On more rich? :O
chuckzul
You can use the T-60 if you're careful. There is enough "meat" on a T-60 to make good contact on the drain plug.
bluesuby
Just go for the T70, various sources on the internet. You can pay around $30 for a high quality German or Swedish tool or buy a China-cheapie set for about the same price. I think Subaru went for the torx set-up to discourage morons in the quick-lube places from pulling the first plug they found to drain the motor oil. ChruiSSer
This reminds me of the Optispark days on the LT-1 motors...Every manufacturer is different. We can take most of our cars apart with a 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm socket and an extension.
