covertrussian
Where do you guys get the rear caliper guide pin boots? I've tried a few different aftermarket brands and they all seem to be way too small, maybe from 2.5i or previous gen Legacies. 04+ FXT's have the same sized ones as the Legacy GT, but the aftermarket part numbers show the same wrong part too. Aftermarket on left, stock one on right, see the difference: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=259478&stc=1&d=1513132252 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK

Sadly I think most will only sell as a kit. I couldn't find anything on their website though. Will try Napa, I also will try autozone with a 2008 2.5i part number (it showed up as different part # then the wrong ones). They come in kit #26697FC000, MSRP $29.05. The kit also includes a piston o-ring, boot, slider pin o-ring, and grease. Yup that's what the dealer quoted me, at that price I would just buy a new remaned caliper for $50 . Are you able to get the boots only by any chance? 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
Underdog
Yeah I don't blame you there. Will prob go that route when I need to change the brakes on my OBXT (upgrade to LGT hardware). There is no part number for those parts individually. The Crimson Dynamo
covertrussian
Did more digging, looks like the GT Legacies do have different rear brakes compared to the rest. GT's have ventilated rear brakes, while the rest are solid. Underdog
Yup, the GT front brakes are larger than all others as well. Wish I had saved my GT brakes when I swapped over to Brembos but it was part of the deal. The Crimson Dynamo
covertrussian
It seems like rears are too. Every store made it seem like GT was the same as 2.5i's for the rears, but checking OpposedForces I finally see a difference. Also centric part numbers for rotors are different for GT vs 2.5i. Underdog
Correct - it is quite a difference when you see them side-by-side. FWIW my OBXT brakes are adequate but it's silly to replace with like-hardware when you can upgrade to GT hardware for such a small premium. covertrussian
Remember, there's a lot more labor when replacing the caliper instead of just the boot's. With 5+ engine swaps, 4+ custom turboed cars, 1 custom 6 speed rebuild/swap, replacing a caliper and bleeding it is cakewalk . Plus with 100k+ mile calipers, they start sticking anyway it's a much better investment to just buy a $50 reman. Plus rebuilding a caliper all of the way is much more difficult and still requires bleeding of brakes. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK

covertrussian
One of my pistons on the front had a torn boot and it started sticking, that coupled with using the wrong grease on slider pins and bam locked up brakes. That's at 100k miles... My 04 FXT has 162k miles, while the calipers and pistons are much rustier, the boots still seem decent and the pistons still move freely which is really all that matters. Next time you do your brakes, see how easily the piston goes back into the caliper, if it moves easily and your boot looks fine, I say run em till they lock up . 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
Max Capacity
I play with my brakes once a year typically to paint them. The pistons all slide nicely. outahere
Thanks, I will need to get a set of those Centric rotors for the rear. My rear pads are wearing unevenly, and are leaving deposits on the rotors. My rear rotors look more worn than my front rotors. I must have frozen slider pins, or pistons, or calipers rusted onto the clips, or some combination of these!

covertrussian
Uneven pad wear could be the stuck pin or bad brake hardware brackets. Usually if the pad is uneven top to bottom, then it's probably the stuck pin. If it's uneven side to side, then it's the hardware. The price is a little more palatable when you realize it contains enough parts to rebuild two calipers, not just one. O'RLY? That does change it a bit! 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
outahere
My outside pads are more worn than the inner pads. Saw this in another thread: "The rears tend to stick unless the retainer clips are lubricated. I lost one rear pad at 30k miles, and it was one with no wear sensor so my first hint was metal-to-metal grinding. My dealer's lead mechanic is master certified and says this problem is common and is due to the factory lubing the clips. You must use a thin coat of high-temperature grease so it doesn't burn off or migrate to the friction surfaces. I use Moly-Slide, a grease with 60% moly; a 1 oz tube costs ~$7 and lasts forever since you only use a little bit………………." http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/ridiculous-rear-brake-pads-wear-93720.html?highlight=pads I bought some Dow Corning Molykote M77 grease to use on the pad clips. It is what Honda recommends for their disc brakes.
covertrussian
Interesting my pad wear is actually consistent and they didn't feel like they had any lube on the retaining clips. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK

Andy_Mac
For anyone else interested partsouq.com does most genuine parts at a fair chunk cheaper than any dealers around. $13 for the same kit. And items i've bought from there in the past for a JDM car actually come quicker than from subaru dealerships which seem to put all parts they don't have in stock on the super slow boat from japan. https://partsouq.com/en/search/search?q=26697FC000 2000 Legacy B4 RSK - SOLD 2006 Legacy BP5 GT Spec B wagon - Garage Thread 2011 VW T5 van 2.0L of turbo diesel awesomeness
