The fact that the sending unit and the pump were on separate sides through me for a minute, other than that it took like 15 minutes to install.

GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!

So around 6-700 miles I started smelling a burning oil smell. I couldn't seem to locate the culprit up top, by peering under the hood. There weren't any puddles that I noticed under the car (actively watching for them). I thought that it might have been some left over oil on my DP wrap from when the oil feed line was loose. Almost at a 1000 miles and the smell has gotten increasingly worse. If I turn the heat on recirc, no smell, straight through... burning smell lingers. I took the intercooler off, no oil in it what so ever. I unscrewed the bung off the top of the DP, no oil inside so The turbo hasn't been leaking internally; thank God. We jacked the car up and noticed that there was oil dripping from the front of the motor somewhere... cam seal or oil pump maybe? The rear of the motor is where it's been leaking the most, the rear main seal I think. The back of the splash shield was soaked in oil (probably why I didn't see any puddles, it had been catching and storing most of the leak.) Now I'm in the process of taking everything apart so I can determine where it's coming from. I took the belts off and the T belt covers, just to make sure there wasn't any oil pooling in the bottom of the covers. I seriously hope that my new clutch isn't saturated with oil. This really sucks. FML.

Thoughts?

Pop the timing covers off first, since it's easy to get too. I had the upper passenger side cam cap loose and was leaking all the way down to the exhaust manifold. Slapped a little gasket maker on the outside, retighten the bolts and everything was good. If that's not it, then you may need to pull the tranny and clutch off and inspect the rear main seal.

After 6 months of my install I had to redo the valve cover gaskets again on both sides, so don't worry, it's always work in progress.

As I stated before, I took the t belt covers off already. Just trying to find the front leak. I hope I can figure this out quick... Considering I sold my other car. Sucks. Thanks for the advice FJuan.

I'm having my motor built professionally and warrantied by R&L Engines. Leo is actually exceptionally good at what he does. I guess i'm not sure just what you meant, Shawn? Unless of course you were confused by the pictures?

Have you talked with R&L about this problem ?

Without re-reading the whole thread, did they in fact build the engine ?

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Hoisted motor from car again to further investigate. Rear main seal, and oil pump are leaking. Rear main is leaking the worst. Bought the parts today from Tri City Subaru, installing tomorrow. Modded the FMS TMIC brackets so that it sits a little lower. My Forge BPV clears the hood now. I'll be cutting and fabricating the FMS hood induction splitter to fit also. Hopefully all goes well. My Dyno appt was for the 4th, I'll have to post pone.

I'm working 8-8 today. I think Tim might have to install the gaskets by himself this time, but I'm prob going to have to help him hoist the motor back in tonight. The two lower mounts were a BITCH to line up last time.

The rear main seal wasn't leaking at all. Kevin @ KJE didn't put enough RTV on the plate next to the seal. The oil pump just needed to have some RTV and an o-ring replaced... (Not sure, wasn't there for that).http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/01/u9une5un.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/01/vu9e8una.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/01/ygy8e5yd.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/01/2eqyda6u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/01/uqe5yvyt.jpg
