The problem is that the tight section needs to have the isolator in it. That's where the squeak emanates from. This is the issue we've seen on all of the Epics we've installed. Yeah we haven't installed any "new" Epics in probably a year or so, so the ones in question were old stock ones from the first or second run of Epic springs that were put out. Sorry but we never greased the top hats and the epic springs do not have any isolator covering. At least the ones we have installed did not. The only time the greasing worked was in between the actual coils. Perhaps it was due to road junk getting up in between the coils but regardless an OEM style spring should not do this. It's not a big deal to put on the grainger tubing when installing the springs which is what we do now as an SOP. Perhaps the batch of springs that our warehouse or the warehouse on the east coast (usually Fred beans) got was different than those you have on the west coast? Fast, Cheap or Good, pick 2. While you can get coilovers for $500, they are not terribly good. No knock events on any of my 3 engines. Also if it were the tune, which I'm assuming is the same on all stock engines, we would see them all failing, but not all of them fail. I think you see the sentiment of it being the tune, coming from, TUNERS... They could be a little biased. Well that further supports the argument that it is QC issue. Although we've seen cars dyno at full power despite having cracked ringlands. Good question. We have seen cars like yours with stock tunes last up into the high 100s etc with no issues. Have you ever tracked your car and or drove it at high RPMs for any extended period of time? For example 30 minutes on a canyon road really giving it a workout? And this is why we NEVER suggest rebuilding with OEM pistons. We've seen this issue happen time and time again. My 05 LGT went through 2 motors/piston sets in less than 100k miles and it was bone stock. I used a Thick one from Lowes that was Stainless Steel. Yeah, I went through 3 sets of pistons/motors all replaced under warranty on 2 different 2.5t cars, and the drivelines were stock on all 3. If I ever had to replace them on my own dime, I would go with at a minimum forged pistons.
