  1. G&G are great, top quality videos all around. Their sti swapped forester is a dream of mine as well
  2. yeah, i've looked at that option but it's gonna come out to $500+ for a wheel and airbag, and at that point might as well just get the damd one. i'm a cheap bastard, so neither of those options particularly appeal.
  3. interesting--really interested to see how that comes out...i really want a flat bottom wheel but i'm not paying $500 for a damd one...
  4. woah, that's awesome what are you using for the padding to go over the bare metal? did you salvage what was on there originally or are you using something else?
  5. alex they are the same, i replaced my 2010 rigid mirrors with folding mirrors from a 2012 i believe
  6. bought one of these for my old outback, it's great. definitely worth the money. the clamp type like OP posted is more universal and can be used on many more vehicles, but the astrotool one for subarus is fantastic.
  7. friend of mine put a couple layers of clear bra material on his impreza where the rack would sit to avoid scratches. not the most beautiful solution when the rack isn't on there, but it's a viable option. he got the material for free asking for offcuts from a local shop that installs the clear bra, so that's an option as well. will agree on the stability part though--around town they're okay, but i wouldn't trust one on a long haul.
  8. ugh the dirty things i'd do for a good condition EP civic SI...but unfortunately yeah, probably going to be some Japanese shitbox that's slammed on the cheapest coilovers you can get, or maybe just cut springs because racecar, and has a pepboys fart cannon on the back. that should be more than reliable, right?
  9. just rolled over 151k. it's getting to the point where everything on it is getting tired and will need to be replaced. i'll be picking up a second car, likely in about a year, to keep the miles off and give me time and ability to work on replacing everything, just a matter of jumping through some hoops to get that done.
  10. jealous of that acura, i was looking for one like that the same time i was looking for my GT--the SH-AWD really is a great system, and that v6 is a fantastic engine. i hope you enjoy it
  11. finally got my car back from getting head gaskets done after one month and one day. glad to have her home...
  12. got my car back yesterday, again. a couple vacuum lines popped out, one that was in line with the map sensor, so that's what was causing the rough idle and dying. car drove great, shop put about 100 miles on it before giving it back to me and i put about 50 last night, no problems thus far...need to clean the engine bay this weekend.
  13. got my car back from getting head gaskets done on friday. and yesterday she left on a tow truck again. ran okay on the way home until about 20 minutes in where it died on me a couple times as i went to neutral during the last 10 minutes of the drive. once it got home i was sitting not touching anything, but if i blipped the throttle the engine would surge a few times, drop real low on revs and then eventually die. so, that's nice.
  14. so...here's some videos of that link (part no. 20157AJ040) being installed in case anyone's curious where exactly it goes. it's just 2 bolts, so the install isn't hard, but i was having a hard time visualizing exactly what it bolted on to, thought this might help others. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSLwrORMiF3rj_f2SVKAYgw
  15. the supra has been on sale for a matter of months, it's way too early to call it a dud. i do think they kinda shot themselves in the foot not offering a manual, but if you believe the rumor mill, one's coming. and since that engine already has manual transmission offerings in BMWs, i'm inclined to believe them.
  16. ruh roh...head gaskets, including new valve stem seals, new timing kit, and apparently i or the PO burned the hell out of the clutch at some point or another, so resurfaced flywheel and new clutch kit. Doing the front and rear main seals, cam shaft seals and oil pan gasket as well while everything's apart, so she should be good to go for quite a while. i do my work myself and have done head gaskets in the past, but not having a garage at this point nor a second car to get around in for the month of after work work it would take me to do it...shop. my wallet hurts already and i haven't even gotten the bill
  17. Nah i really don't. Plans for the car, once all the maintenance and suspension is done, really is just an exhaust and a mild tune. I want to keep it reliable, and my history with tuning cars past a very basic level has always been unreliable at best, broken basket cases at worst. It's my daily right now, bone stock, and I want to keep her for a long time, just with a bit more power, slightly stiffer suspension from the 13-14 leggys, and get it to how it should have been from the factory. And better seats. And paint work and PDR, because it's seen better days. Not in bad shape for an almost 10 year old car, but lots of highway miles means lots of little rock chips.
  18. Yeah stew, run into that a few times with this car. Scuba, got 25k on the timing belt and water pump at this point, might be leaving them the mechanic is inspecting when he gets everything out. Plugs are getting replaced even though they've only for 20k miles on because they're cheap. Machine shop is changing valve stem seals and lapping the valves and seats along with skimming the heads. Everything else besides front and rear seals and oil pan seals are on an inspection basis at this point. I have some suspension bits that I'm going to be installing at some point in the not so distant future myself(control arms, tie rods), and doing the shocks and struts some time next year when my car is paid off. She'll be sitting pretty in a bit and hope to keep her for another 150k miles
  19. thanks guys--already planned to look at the clutch and make a decision once the engines out. no sway bar at this point, will do it eventually though once i get some money back and another spot that i can work on my car....good call on the coolant line, forgot about that guy. will have em take a look. thanks guys
  20. dropping my car off to get head gaskets, front and rear main seals, and oil pan reseal done tomorrow while i'm on vacation next week. any recommendations on what else should be done while they're in there?
  21. since owning it my commute has been about 7 miles each way, until 9 months ago where it changed to about 4, next month it's going to be jumping up to 30 miles each way, and that's just too many miles to put on the car considering gas costs and fuel mileage, so the beater idea really is swirling around in my head. I'd keep the leggy for long cruises(which i do with relative frequency) and fun driving etc. it needs more work(new suspension mainly) than just the HGs, so it'd be nice to be able to work on that stuff too without having to rush through everything...so in my mind it makes a bit of sense to explore the beater route. i bought the 2nd car knowing it needed head gaskets, it was a 2001 outback(5 speed, so good) that i got for $300 with 190k miles, so that one i went in to knowing what the problems were, but from what I had read the turbo engines were pretty stout as far as the gaskets went, so I wasn't fully planning on doing them...left a pretty sour taste at the moment. i still owe a couple grand on the car too, which is what's *really* annoying me the most at the moment...dunno...lots of stuff to think about.
  22. yeah, thought about that, but it's just a tick over 150k miles...if it were under a hundred then i could see that being possible, but 150k is...high. got a couple quotes around 3200 from some subaru specialists which i think is high but fair. i also think i could buy a beater car for 2k, parts for 1k or less, do the work myself, and come out with a beater car at the end of the day so i can keep some miles off the leggy. decisions decisions..... and i hate to say it, but this is probably going to be my last subaru. I've had 3, all 3 have needed head gaskets. The price of admission just isn't worth it to keep these cars anymore...
