  1. Like the colour on the calipers. Seeing as you are in the middle of this swap, could you provide any details to the questions in this thread: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2008-09-lgt-3-0r-ltd-vs-3-0r-rear-282410.html?t=282410 The main question is: Is the front calipers actually different from the base model (or xt assuming again it has base model brakes as again I assume that's why you are swapping them) with the only actual difference the mounting bracket? Or is it an entirely different caliper?
  2. The rear rotors are the same diameter so in theory they should be the same/compatible. The front rotors (if the xt has the smaller rotors like the 2.5i, I'm not well versed on the xt) are bigger on the gt so likely will require the larger dust shields. Sorry I can't be more definitive then that. But I'm glad you brought it up as I have considered upgrading my fronts to the GT's and forgot about the dust shields.
  3. Is it on the glass lens of the projector? It might actually be a burnt reflector bowl and the reflection makes it look like it's on the lens. Not sure if you can take the bulb out and take a look at it from there.
  4. ^ Basically that. It's simple in some respects. Ideally zero air goes under the car. You want the splitter to be basically scraping the ground. Minimizing the air going through the nose into the engine bay. That air has to go somewhere. Ideally any air going into the engine bay gets exhausted over the top of the car. Look at high end sports cars with the venting behind the rad. Though some these days do a good job of hiding the channeling of the air. Obviously some of this is easier to achieve then others. It might not look great but gaffers tape covering as many holes as you can will help and should be easily removed. It's what nascar uses it so should be fine for your track car. Tape/cover as much as you can before over heating. And get the spitter as close to the ground as possible.
  5. Well, the local seller that told me he wasn't in a rush to sell the seats and would hold them for me sold them without contacting me first. Pretty annoyed with that seeing as he seemed to be a nice guy. Saw his Subaru of america spec b race car and had a nice chat. Really disappointed. But I still want to know if the 07 seat have the better bolstering compared to 08. If so then I'll feel a bit better not getting these as they were 08. Then again finding a pretty much mint sedan interior around here for a reasonable price doesn't happen often. I think I might try and put in the 05 drivers seat to test it out. I have it anyway... Febreze Mee, did you find anything out after your outing of looking at 4th gens?
  6. Been a little behind on getting work done on my legacy and updating this thread. But got a couple little things done. I apologize for the picture size and the lack of cropping Trying a different way of posting the images. Since I've never had any luck trying to upload to this forum, I've had to post elsewhere. Getting the images off my phone onto an image host is constantly a pain in the ass. I'm open to suggestions. Anyhow, after a bit of effort with a local jdm importer I finally got a jdm rear sway bar. Not that it was hard, more that the bar they first sold me was the same as udsm stock. I had measured it the first time, came back to get it and they must have switched it on me. Spent a lot of time and two trips there to get them to exchange it with a proper jdm bar. Not a great experience with them. Anyway, sorry for the story. There was a bit of confusion about the jdm bar being 18 or 19 mm. First time I measured it I got 18mm and was a bit confused if it really was the jdm bar. Turns out it measures a bit different in different spots. I unfortunately forgot to measure before putting it on. If it wasn't already known, the stock bar is solid and the jdm bar is hallow, at least that's what it seems based on weight. Swaybar 19mm Swaybar 18mm Swaybar OEM 16mm Built my own reinforcements. Didn't make them too pretty, though I do like the look of bare aluminum anyhow. And yeah the swaybar mounts should get cleaned up and painted but its a battle fighting the rust in the salt belt. Installed a truck latch switch and backup camera. Little things drive me crazy, like having to go into my pocket or open the drivers door to get into my trunk. The solenoid is already there, why isn't there a button to actuate it? Well now there is. Grabbed a button from the scrap yard. Cut a slot into the plastic and stuck it in. I ended up wiring the button to a relay (additionally to the one explained later) so there wasn't current flowing through the switch. I doubt it was necessary but that's how it ended up. Now you might be thinking its pretty dumb to have a switch available to open your trunk at any time, and yeah that would be a bad idea but I got that covered. I have a latching relay that can take separate pulses to latch one way or the other. My aftermarket alarm sends a ground signal on lock and on unlock. I use those signals along with the relay to enable power to flow to the switch or not, thus enabling or disabling it. This could probably be done with the stock alarm/wiring as it sends a 12v pulse then locking or unlocking but I think its a pulse on the same wire and it might have to be turned into a negative pulse. The beauty of the aftermarket is I have a separate pulse for lock and unlock so it can't get into the wrong state. Trunk Switch and reverse camera With the nexus 7 tablet and an usb capture device, there needs to be a way to power the capture device on only when in reverse to it can be auto detected by the tablet. So I built this little guy. 12v from reverse and ground go to the terminals. And just plug in the usb. Covered it in shrink wrap after the picture. Reverse camera usb relay Got some practically brand new winters to be mounted on the stock 17in wheels so I won't be running on the ugly steelies this winter. Coming up. -Maybe seat swap/upgrade? -Build and house my electrical addons box. It will contain my wifi switched an some other things TBD. -Add circuits to the fuse box with spare fuse box parts I now have. -Investigate more on extending the steering column, now that I have a spare to play with. -Play with trying to create a "link" button for the climate control (Did I mention little things bug me?) -Bench test an audio switch with vox setup. So the tablet can use the NAV input on the HU (front 2 speakers only) while on any input. Then disable the vox and switch to aux when on the aux input (to prevent the vox from "talking" over the aux input)...Now that I have a spare HU. -Get new flanges and weld them onto existing pipes a muffler connection so I can mount my es premiums. -Get a tune....mainly the transmission Hopefully I get at least some of all that done before winter.. Personal log: Oil change was done at 195k and remember the 3.0 holds a lot of damn oil.
  7. Yeah I know. Can you believe it was worse before I posted it? Of course I didn't realize how complex it was going to get when I started.. And it just got worse and worse. But yeah definitely needs to be formatted better. Chart is not a bad idea at all. Though for some of the charts I was reading (I think 2005) it's was pretty confusing as well with all the options specific to each model yet some similarities (sport seats on gt and 2.5i limited but the gt got cloth.... But they are the same otherwise?) Doesn't help with the differences between markets. I mean I know that's typical but still really annoying. Thanks for the pics you've already posted and helping out getting to the bottom of this. The biggest question that can't be answered with just online research is if the bolsters in 05-07 are indeed better/different then 08/09. At this point I won't be surprised. As a side, if the ones you are looking at are auto's see if the shift knob is leather. Mines very obviously rubber.
  8. I can't prove if this statement is true just by looking at brochures though. I need some first hand experience. http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/150423-gen-4-seat-differences/&do=findComment&comment=835447 Comparing the 05 xt seats I have to my 09. That definitely feels to be true. But the 07's might be the "perfect" fit, if they have the pre face-lift bolsters but newer 07+ passenger airbag sensor... Some more investigation. From brochures: 2009 Legacy Colour options: Charcoal Black (Canada) Off-Black Leather (OBL) (USA) USA 3.0R Limited/GT Performance-design front seats Leather-trimmed upholstery Pictures of the warm ivory GT seats show perforated seats, with double stitched seams. So in Canada the spec b in 09 didn't even get the Alcantara seats?! I'll probably edit this and add to it a bit but didn't want to loose it so posting it for now.....I've learned a little bit now. They sure made the whole thing clear as mud.
  9. Well I guess this is pretty good proof the bolsters of the perforated seats are vinyl. https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2144979 Too bad I wasn't more curious a couple of weeks ago when I was at a scrap yard that had a gt there with seats that were already slashed, could have done an autopsy there. But seeing as the sales brochure I just read has the same wording for the gt and xt, I get the feeling the seats are the same. In the 2008 sales brochure they list 2 leather seat options (well 3 if you include the Alcantara) "CL Charcoal Black Leather" and "PL Charcoal Black Perforated Leather" With the perforated leather being in the gt and xt. No mention of the 3.0, which I thought was weird but then I realized that's because it's the Canadian 2008 brochure and the 3.0 wasn't available in Canada, in 2008. But turns out in 2009 there was actually only one seat option? Off-Black Leather (OBL) and seeing as I have an 09 and the 3.0R was only sold in Canada in 09....maybe I do have the same seats as the USA market? So do 2009 3.0R's in usa have perforated leather seats? Is the passenger seat powered? 2008 Brochure (Canada) https://www.subaru.ca/content/7907/media/en-ca/download/legacy2008_brochure.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiPq7u69dfqAhWyhXIEHaQcBMMQFjAAegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw2WJ-tO9jZnYGp9Cnpy-wNn 2009 brochure (USA) http://dl.owneriq.net/a/ada99146-bff4-4f06-b33c-8d429e6c524a.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj75-2U89fqAhVSgnIEHQBSCxIQFjABegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw2j7u1kNuGpvxbwPV_c4tDO Seems like maybe they cheaped out in 09, compared to previous years? The perforated seats seem to have better/more convincing fake leather. Also they double stitched the seams on those seats which from what I can gather is usually done on leather.
  10. To add some info or confusion. These are the two seats I have in my possession currently. 2005 Outback XT seats Perforated leather middle/center/seating surface and bottom side bolster Side bolster stitching 2009 Legacy 3.0R Limited Canada Leather middle/center/seating surface and bottom side bolster Side bolster stitching Notice the texture difference and stitching on the side bolster. On the 05 xt it looks like it would be real leather as the pattern isn't as consistent, like it is on the 09 legacy. Also on the 09 legacy the side bolster feels much softer then the center section where on the xt the center and the side feel very similar. I have been on the cars101 site before I posted this, but I'll take a look again to see if I missed anything. Unfortunately I didn't see it go into detail. Furthermore it doesn't have any info on the differences of the Canadian model (not the I expected it to). So yes the sales brochure might have said performance seats for the USA but I don't think we go them. The 3.0R Limited Canadian version got base model 16in rims, base model smaller brakes and base model KYB shocks. And looks like 2.5i seats. Clearly were trying to be sneaky about cutting corners. Seats in my 09 3.0R GT/3.0R USA seats Most obvious difference from a distance is the headrest area. So the leather seats in the outback 2.5i are not perforated, and I assume look like the picture about of my 09 legacy seats? And yeah I'm not sure I'm making the right choice or not. It's true having a manual passenger site is nice as you can move it quick and easy when having to put stuff in and out of the car. Or wanting to push it back/forward from the drivers seat. And the seating surfaces don't have holes so maybe easier to clean and possible more durable (less likely to tear....saw a torn one, it tron between the holes)? My reasoning started with finding a cheap set of 05 xt seats, not knowing at the time they aren't a direct swap. My drivers seat has cracks in the side bolster so I wanted to fix that, upgrade the seat possible and the passenger getting the nicer seat was kind of a bonus. Add to that my little side quest of fixing the cheaping out of Subaru Canada and getting it optioned up the way it should have been. The crack on the side bolster and the fact they are pretty soft I was hoping the other/performance seats had better bolsters and hopefully made out of leather. But the 08 GT I went as saw yesterday did have perforated leather seats but the side bolsters felt and looked the same as my 09 legacy. So not sure it would be much of an upgrade. Though I will say my current seats get a bit sticky/hot when sitting in them and hoping the perforated might breath a bit better. I don't know...
  11. I'm trying to get a handle on what seats were available and came with what model during 05-09 . The end goal being upgrading my seats to the best possible version subaru had for this model year. With the exception of the spec b seats. First question, Are the leather seats all leather or just the inserts on the center bottom and back? If some years/models are different, did some models come with full leather? Second question, What years are direct swaps into what other years? I think I've found the answer to that already. 05/06 can swap to anything 05/06. 07 and later can swap into 07-09. This is due to the passenger airbag sensor being different. I really would like to know what different seat there are out there. I recently purchased the front seats from a 2005 outback xt. They have perforated leather in the center, but the sides also feel like leather. Unfortunately I found out later they won't swap into my 09. I just took a look at a 08 GT and they are also perforated leather but the sides feels softer and like vinyl. Are the sides vinyl? I have a 2009 3.0R "Limited"....but it's a Canadian car so from what I can gather they cheaped out and put in what may be crappier seats from certain stand points. They aren't perforated leather. The sides are likely vinyl, but unsure. The passenger side is manual and no lumbar support. And the shape around the headrest is different, on these seats its straight flat. Others I see that wrap around the headrests a bit on both sides. I think there are the seats that came in the 2.5i. So you can see why I might want to change them out. My other question, if anyone knows before I have to investigate on my own. Is the wiring harness there for the power passenger seat in my car that didn't have power passenger seat from factory, but did have power passenger seat in the USA? I really would like to know the deal here is, as I have a 08 GT interior I am planning to buy but now I'm not sure if maybe there is a better option, being full leather, if that is an option that exist.
  12. Subscribed, haven't done anything with mine yet but I've been curious how other people have utilized it.
  13. Anti-glare screen protector (the ones with the matte surface) for tablets (computers?) works to fix the problem with polarized sunglasses. Google it and you'll see videos and stuff on it and why it works. I've used it on my tablet that I couldn't see due to polarized sunglasses and now it's not an issue at all.
  14. ^ True for 05-07 but 08-09 use the high beam at 50% for DRL. Though I think they run at like 9v so more like 75%
  15. Yeah that's the real question I've wanted a solid answer for also. Are the front calipers the same? I did a quick look at a couple places. Rockauto, parts.subaru.com and opposedforces.com Rockauto parts cross reference usually works well but every caliper on there comes with the bracket so the part number of course will be different and therefore that's not helpful. Really oddly though is on both subaru part sites it lists the same part numbers for most things between the 15&16in and the 17in. They even list the rotors with the same part number, which of course makes no sense. But on opposedforces it does list the calipers with different part numbers. And if you look at the fitment it shows that part only fitting on the GT etc. But I think that's coming back to the fact that it includes the bracket. So I think the only way to know is to actually get the GT caliper bracket and see if it fits. Or at the very least talk to a subaru parts guy and see if there is even a part number for the bare caliper. I get the feeling there isn't.
  16. As far as I know off the top of my head. The base model 3.0R, which I think was only available in 2009 came with the smaller/lower end brakes. I do know the Canadian version has the limited/premium trim but lacked the larger brakes the limited 3.0R got in the states. Ask me how I know..... The front brakes are a larger diameter. There rears are the same diameter but the limited brakes are vented. For the rear, the calipers would need to be changed due to the thicker rotor. The front I have been told the calipers needs to be changed but I'm not 100% if that's true. I have thought that maybe just the bracket is different, allowing the caliper to sit out further and accommodate the larger rotor. I would be interested I getting a definitive answer on that as that would save the cost of replacing perfectly good calipers, for the front at least.
  17. Or ask yourself if you were following a car that has flashing tail lights every time they touch the brakes if that would annoy the crap out of you. Additionally to being illegal. If you want to kill time, I'm sure you could find some more interesting stuff to do. Got lots of time to do research.
  18. They can definitely replace the airbag without removing the dash. I've watched it happen.
  19. I could be wrong but I don't think there is a clutch in a sequential gear box. Well what I mean by that is, there is a clutch for launch but it's not used between gears. At least I know that to be true on some sequential. For example a dirt bike.
  20. That makes sense. And kind of what I suspected. I knew heal toe was definitely an asphalt thing but didn't know if it extended past that. And yeah it's about rev matching during downshifting and braking. Though as far as I know, no matter what surface you are on you want to be in gear before making the turn so I would suspect heal toe is likely used pretty much everywhere. The idea is to be braking at the very last moment and while doing so setting up to have the correct gear for powering out of the corner. But if heal toe is used in rally along with left foot braking that's a hell of a lot of foot work going on. I'll have to google that one. I know I've watched heal toe on YouTube and it looks soo good and easy when you watch someone experienced do it. It looks so eloquent.
  21. I haven't heard much about left foot braking. From what I'm aware of it's usually heal toe for braking/down shifting, at least on asphalt road coarse. Might be different on circle track racing. Look up heal toe shifting. It's still awkward but you'll get used to it. Keep in mind also racing shoes and pedal placement is different in track/race cars. The shoes make a bigger difference then you think. You don't need race shoes but take a look at them to give you an idea. They generally have a thin sole so you can feel the pedals more easily. They also conform to your foot a lot more and a lot less bulky.
  22. Back pressure isn't a thing. It will be noisier. You will get a check engine light. Like it's been said, don't do it. If you want more noise remove the center muffler (resonator), that will make it nice and noisy, and will drone. If you want even more noise, and to remove a slight restriction, remove the 3rd cat in the y pipe. Likely the best way to get the most noise without completely ruining the sound is just a straight muffler delete, leaving the rest alone. Listen to some YouTube clips, tons out there with pretty much every configuration.
  23. Ford projector fogs. Requires retrofitting. I'll get a link to my build thread. I don't think I have an output shot but they have a usable beam for bad weather. https://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5751854&postcount=18 There is output shots of those projectors out there if you would like to see how they look. Not sure if the Outback has a different mount but these can be retrofitted in a different way if need be.
  24. If you have the ability to have the car plugged in, investing in a block heater will help out a lot and is good for the engine.
  25. There is all the information you need for the 3.0 out there. There is lots of good info on this thread and in the Outback forums. I love my 3.0. Thankfully I was able to test drive both a GT and 3.0 back to back and I preferred the 3.0. Not just because of the test drive but because of the reliability, in general, and compared to the GT. Mainly not having to worry about the turbo. If your are planning on getting a 2.5i but are considering the 3.0. Just make sure you get to test drive one. If you don't mind the lower fuel mileage and running premium. You be have a smile on your face a lot more with the 3.0 then the 2.5i.
