  1. So on a new motor the AOS is not needed? Or the GS one just isn't that good? I will slide each TOB I have on the snout and see if one has less play. I will also try to caliper them both. My snout has no wear at all.
  2. Trying now to decide on which throw out bearing to use. The ACT is just a little different than a new OEM. Not sure that it's any stronger just a slightly different design.
  3. Yeah the problem is while I wait for the motor mounts I have too much time to stare and think. I have a lot of $$ involved and I don't want to blow something up. I think with Outback gearing the car is gonna be a rocket from 20-80 mph and be quite aggressive at highway speeds. Maybe I will even keep around 23 mpg at cruise if I am lucky.
  4. Here's something I should maybe have thought of. The oil line mod. My screens were clean when I took the motor apart and I removed them from the banjos but I should have considered the oil line mod.
  5. I have a brand new Subaru clutch fork to install but now I wonder if it will handle the ACT SB5-HDSS pressure plate. The old one showed very little wear on it.
  6. Oh lucky Me. I am ready to put the long block back in the car. All I had left was flywheel, pressure plate , disc and the motor mounts to go. As I begin to tighten motor mounts using the required 29.5 ft lbs of course the mount cracks. Why I thought 14 year old mounts would be re-usable, I don't know. New ones will be here next week. Meantime I will be playing in traffic.
  7. Wow, that sucks. All I had done was replace exhaust valves all stem seals and locks. Standard valve job and resurface the castings. Nothing high tech My build isn't crazy.
  8. My build is already way over budget. I don't want 2 turbos with one waiting to be sold lol. Just bad timing for Me.
  9. Oh boy. He did the head work. I checked the valve to cam clearances when I installed heads . They were all in spec with the TSM. He has done Subaru heads before, had some sitting there when I dropped off. Egads just My luck.
  10. My car has the bolt on backing plate behind flywheel so My machine Guy couldn't turn it. I grabbed a 2006 WRX flywheel because it is supposed to be compatible with the clutch I bought. All the reading I did seemed to indicate a 2006 flywheel will work on My 2008. Hopefully I haven't buggered this up now.
  11. Oh Thanks. I didn't realize that. I have to pick up stuff from the dealer Friday. OCV gaskets don't come in the gasket kit either and My kit is missing the cam gear O-rings.
  12. I took the easy way out. RallySportDirect has compatible flywheel to My ACT clutch for 183$ shipped. Made by Exedy which I think is Subaru's provider anyway.
  13. Heads done but now machine shop realized He can't turn flywheel. I read so many conflicting stories on yes they can be turned to no they can't I wasn't sure what to do. Now I am delayed waiting for a flywheel and I have to figure out stock or not. UGH
  14. Yeah no point screwing with something that works if left alone.
  15. What about removing the TGV plates? Anybody do this? If just the butterfly is removed I'm guessing the sensor will still think the plates are present.
  16. Heads will be done in 2 days. Exhaust valves had to be replaced due to extreme cupping at sealing surface.
  17. Gasket issue sorted out. The rubber ones I need are not in the kit. The metal ones are for aluminum intake manifold.
  18. So I am not sure if I am missing TGV to manifold gaskets or not. I found 2 coated metal gaskets that look like TGV gaskets in My kit but My manifold has orange rubber gaskets that fit into a trough and have a tab on them. Do I use both metal and rubber? The orange rubber is what I don't have.
  19. Ouch , I hope it's not that much. There are reconditioned heads out there for 700 ea. I will report in when I find out.
  20. Still waiting for the heads. Did You VF-52 or similar owners use 1 step colder plugs?
  21. Not offhand but I e-mailed the parts supplier and waiting to hear if they are going to make it right. Thanks for the offer .
  22. OK wires for the gauge sensors are run. Dash all back except for the cubby itself. I'll do that after initial start-up so I can set the alarms and color. Killer B pick-up and baffle installed. Oil pan on. Oil pump on. Oil cooler and water pump on. Waiting for the heads still. While cleaning TGV's I found out My gasket kit is missing the manifold to TGV gaskets but I have 8 spark plug hole gaskets. Ugh.
  23. I ended up carving a small hole in the ECU grommet and feeding the wires through. I will silicone it after verifying they work.
