  1. Revision 3 map from My tuner is quite entertaining. 20 lbs of boost. Ridiculous thrust starting at about 3400 rpm. Very smooth acceleration all the way to 6300 rpm which is were I back off.
  2. On revision 3 map now. Will get data logs out tomorrow so haven't tested this map yet. The MPG is still 3-4 mpg better than old engine. I only did a simple compression test on the old engine. In hindsight I should have done leakdown which would have revealed the bad sealing exhaust valves on #4 . I could have gotten away with head work and a rebuild on the turbo.
  3. Got My first tuning maps in today. Initial was low boost to verify there is no boost creep. That went well so next map got Me up to around 16 psi boost. Runs good, steady strong thrust and no hesitation around the 23-2500 rpm stumble spot. I will continue to be easy on it until next maps get sent but so far so good.
  4. Yeah I was surprized too but everything I could find in TSM or online had 103 ft lbs
  5. Two more tanks of gas holding at 24-25 mpg which I am good with considering Outback gearing.
  6. Hit 1000 miles today. Last 300 I had to do a highway trip in a snow squall. Coolant temp started to bounce around 210-215 when normal was 185-200. Will I was freaking out about it quietly I looked over at the car next to Me. The front end was caked with about 3 inches of hard packed slush. Light bulb on in My head and a rest stop in 2 miles. Sure enough front end caked enough to kill air flow to radiator. Knocked it all off and temps back to normal. MPG 24-25 with no more than 5 lbs boost and RPM below 4000.
  7. Trans mount in no issues. 103 lbs worked fine . Side note the other noise I experienced after Group N motor mounts was 95 % erased by correcting tire pressures. The sweet spot for My set-up appears to be 35 frt and 32 rear.
  8. Subaru trans fluid . It's not the Extra S couldn't find that anywhere. I plan to go Motul next.
  9. Problem figured out. After reading threads for hours about similar noise on other forums a common fix appeared to be tire pressures. I then realized the car was sitting on the loft for 2 1/2 months and I haven't checked the tires in a while. They were way off. I went with My normal 32 frt 30 rr and took a drive. Noise greatly reduced. Huh, maybe dumb luck. Increased cold pressure to 35 frt and 32 rr and presto. Noise 90% gone. I have to guess that the pressure difference side to side was making the differential work harder than normal to accomodate different tire diameters.
  10. Ohh I see. Well I will continue to look into it then. The Group N tranny mount went in Thurs. and the noise did not change but I can get reverse without double clutching now so that's fun. I will examine the driveshaft stuff next.
  11. I hope that's the case but it's such a wierd whine it sounds like a buzz saw at a lumber mill.
  12. I definately feel I must have damaged something in the tranny during engine install. It was a battle getting everything to line up. The whine during decel in gear is too pronounced to have not been heard before and I don't think the Group N mounts could have made that much difference. Outback trannies are scarce at junkyards so trying to decide what direction to go. Leaning towards drive it until it breaks. I am almost to the 500 mile oil change otherwise car is great at least below 4000 rpm and no boost it's great.
  13. That's what I came up with too but reading reviews on the mount a few people have broken the bolts using 103 lbs.
  14. There are rumours that the torque specs in the TSM are incorrect for the 17mm head size bolts crossmember to chassis. TSM says 103ish ft lbs. Anybody know what is correct?
  15. To bad it's not a recall like the airbags were. I just told the Wife what the final cost was including future oil changes and the E-tune. I'm in trouble......again.
  16. Yeah I did some thinking last night and realized I hardly ever decel in gear. I may heel and toe to rev match but unless I'm in 5th on the highway I automatically snick into neutral. I am only doing it now for break-in. I am a notorious coaster. The noise was probably there but I wasn't listening for it or creating it. Take-offs from a dead stop are awesome with the stiffer mounts. Even with a spankin new clutch.
  17. Yeah I expected an increase in NVH but it was a little more than what I anticipated after reading 50 or so reviews. I will get used to it and probably make it worse by adding the tranny mount. The improvement in shifting and launch overall was noticeable . While I was poking around under the car I took a close look at the trans mount and it isn't too good so I will sacrifice some quiet for better feel.
  18. Clunk under the hood found to be the Grimmspeed splitter knocking into underside of hood. The other noise appears to be gear whine that I didn't have before. The only change was the upgrade to Group N motor mounts so maybe they are amplifying the noise when decelerating in gear. Quite loud in 3rd and 4th. Very disappointing.
  19. Sent a log of first drive to My E-tuner and He says everything looks good so onto 100 miles and another OC.
  20. Got 2 noises I gotta find. One sounds like maybe dogbone is knocking and two sounds like some kind of exhaust rattle under middle of the car. Could be anything.
  21. New oil and filter in and 1st drive in. 15 miles with a log done requested by the tuner. No leaks and no major issues. Feels smooth, good oil and coolant temps and good oil pressure. I'll get 100 in and change oil.
  22. She runs. No leaks so far. 10 mins at 2500 rpm almost no issues. It did something funky at the 9 1/2 min. mark and started running up and down an wierd. I parked it and then saw I forgot to plug in MAF at air filter box. I'm guessing that was the culprit.
  23. Head back on plus intake and timing stuff. Final look over tomorrow then back in the car for attempt #2.
  24. Well the logic supports that. I went for an OEM gasket. Local dealer has the highest prices around but it will save Me time. 99.53$ for one gasket. Oh well I am already 9000$ into an 8000$ build.
