  1. While not quite available for purchase yet, COBB has a FMIC coming that retains bumper beam and fog lights. May even have an option for CF pipes and end tanks! Bling FTW! Of course, with all the research you've been doing you probably already know about this and are unwilling to wait for COBB's notoriously long lead time with new products. Got to admit it's good stuff though!
  2. No, I haven't noticed this. I'll have to check it out soon. Thanks for the heads up.
  3. Thanks for clarifying nKoan. I wouldn't know as I live about 2 miles away from them so I just went and picked it up. Oh yeah, in case anyone cares, I finally got my Parrot Bluetooth kit working. Had to have the "blue box" replaced. Cheers! -Ian
  4. Try http://www.subarugenuineparts.com. They list it at $431.67 and 10% for S/H. Although they do say S/H may be adjusted to reflect actual shipping charges. Cheers! -Ian
  5. Because I'm using THIS instead. I hear you on wanting to use Subaru Bucks! I use them as much as possible. The part # on the little Aux box in the picture is 86257XA10A. The i85 is the wire diagram designation for the harness that plugs into the back of the HU (I think). I'm not sure how I was going to hook up that AUX jack. I was going to take it to a professional installer to have them do that part. Likely it was going to require buying some 16 or 18 guage wires and tapping them into the appropriate wires at that harness. There are lot's more details in the first part of this thread. Sorry I can't be of more help. Cheers! -Ian
  6. You need to add a jack somewhere. I'm pretty sure you'll need to run wires from the jack to the harness (i85 I believe). I've got the Subaru OEM one for sale. $15 shipped. See pics in post #81. Cheers! -Ian
  7. I thought that might be the case! It all looks like so much fun though! I'm liking 250hp, won't I like 300 more? And if 300 is fun, isn't 400 that much mo' betta? That's how we men are isn't it. If something is good. Isn't more always better?
  8. Cool. I'ver never had a post fixored! While my wagon is totally stock on the performance front, I would like to make some "upgrades". Wuki, your wagon is an inspiration for all the wagonista's out there. Oh yeah, and I don't think bosco lives by his words.
  9. Hence mod bosco's sig.... "Stay stock, stay happy."
  10. Ahhh, speedub.nate! Of course! Sorry to mistake you for the Mr. Bling Nate. There were quite a few Nate's over there, but my apologies. Great photo! Somewhere near Tahoe I presume? A RIP9! Nice. I'll head back over there to catch up soon. Do you have a thread on the RIP you could link me to? I'd love to read some impressions from yourself and others. Thanks. That was my impression of the subwoofer too. Glad to hear it plugs right in. I do plan on doing the steering wheel too so I guess I'll have to track down some extra wires and pins or just bypass the harness. Cheers! -Ian
  11. Woah! Small world! Is that NCJ01, Fayatteville Arkansas Nate? Or was it NJC? I forget. Didn't know you were a subie driver too! Too funy. Yes, still riding and racing. Lot's of road racing. Need a break soon though. Nope, haven't been over there in a while. Had to cut back on the computer time. That and I'll just want to buy another bike and since I haven't ridden the one mountain bike I have in WAY too long, I definitely don't need that temptation. I've had my eye on the spider or the RIP 9. What kind of two wheels are you riding now days? Sorry for the OT! Back OT. Still waiting for the replacement head unit. You can't see the damage in the picture I took of the original HU. It's a VERY small crack in the mode button. Cheers! -Ian
  12. Wow! Some great info PCF923! Thanks! I'm back from my vacation now and will be tackling this as soon as I get a replacement HU from Subarugenuineparts.com. Seems the button that changes modes (AUX/CD/Radio/Sat) got damaged somewhere along the line and that's a button that can't be swapped out all by itself. So....shouldn't be long now. I'll post soon with the outcome and hopefully some pictures of the install. Later, -Ian
  13. leggtnut - Thanks for the offer! Unfortunately I'm out of town until Sunday evening. In Winthrop for a bike race. Live in Bellevue though (went to Juanita High in Kirkland ). I might try to get the HU in on Monday. Not that I have any MP3 CD's. Can you burn those from iTunes? HieroGLFX - No I wasn't planning on doing an HD radio. I'm a little behind in the stereo tech. Let me get this iPod rolling first! -HEF- I couldn't tell you what the details are. That's why I'm taking to a "professional" so they can figure that part out. I do want to keep some of the wires though as I also want to add the steering wheel with audio controls. I was hoping to have it all wired up in one fell swoop so I don't have to keep pulling the stereo out. I guess it's not that hard though. OK, time to suit up for the 10 mile time trial. Cheers! -Ian
  14. I do have the under-seat sub woofer. I do plan on keeping it as well. It doesn't sound like it will plug right into this new stereo but we'll find out! It may be a few weeks before I get to tackle this as I'm going to a bicycle race this weekend and then to Jackson WY for a family gathering next Wednesday. Maybe the second week of July. Just wanted to warn those interested so they don't keep coming back looking for new info too soon. I'd like to be there and help them install it as I'm curious that way and like to work with my hands. If they let me I'll try to get some pictures and a detailed write up of what they do so I can add to what DeerKiller (and others) has so graciously outlined. I guess I could probably try and tackle it on my own but have ZERO experience wiring anything and "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (and myself included) would like to ensure it doesn't totally fry the whole car. Cheers! -Ian
  15. I got my new radio in today. I'll confirm what ckrausgri posted, part number 86201AG67A includes the face plate and internal head unit. It's all you need. I got mine from subarugenuineparts.com for $431.67. FWIW, I also ordered part number 86257XA10A ($14.25). It's a small box with a six pin adapter and small headphone jack. Are the male plugs for this six pin easy to come by? I'll let you know how the install goes. I'm taking it to a small local stereo shop as I'm not experienced enough to do this myself. As I've mentioned I'm going to have them run the wires for the steering wheel with audio controls (that I'm going to purchase in the near future) as well. Cheers! -Ian
  16. Yes! This is the confirmation I've been looking for. I was going to get this part first just in case this was the case. I know in another thread you'd said you got this to work by itself but I thought you meant you didn't need the front panel assembly, that you got it to work with the original panel. This is great news indeed. Thanks! -Ian
  17. The first one is all you need I believe. It's the actual head unit. The other is the front panel with the radio and climate control interface. I don't know how to get the radio to toggle between Aux, CD, AM, FM and Satellite with out the front panel but I've read (maybe in another thread, likely in this one) that you don't NEED the panel assembly. I'll be doing this swap as soon as I can accumulate more Subaru bucks to pay for both parts. Or until such time as I get desperate enough to bite the bullit and drop real money on the difference (600 subaru bucks in pocket, 500 needed to include the steering wheel). I was hoping to get the spec b steering wheel (with audio controls) done at the same time. It may be sooner rather than later as my "deferred gratification" is going on vacation soon. Cheers! -Ian
  18. It's in the first post of this thread. Cheers! -Ian
  19. OK, still confused on the subwoofer working or not. We've got DK saying "Not without some wiring" and Jon saying "Plugs right in". DK, which subwoofer are you referring to in Jon's post above? The 3.0RVDC one or the port/dealer installed (underseat the driver seat) one? I'm hoping Jon's right but considering DK's actually had his out and apart... Thanks, -Ian
  20. Now I'm confused. So did you add the armrest cubby with the plug for the Aux in also? Or did you drill yours out and add it yourself? And what's this about not being able to use the OEM accessory (for an '05 car anyway) subwoofer with the '07 stereo? Are you saying I'd have to junk the one I've got under my seat and buy a new one? I'm so confused. Please clarify. Thanks. -Ian
  21. Glad to see someone taking this project on. Thanks for sharing your how to DK! I will be doing this upgrade as soon as I have enough subie bucks saved up. Do you have the SOA part number for this unit? I'm most interested in how much it will take to get the Aux input to work. Please go into "electronics noob" details on this. No worries on the CD changer as I won't need it when I can use my iPod! Subscribing. Cheers! -Ian
  22. I think I'm getting this. So the tap goes on the steering wheel side of the harness on one end then on the radio side of the harness on the other end so you don't have to jam the wire into the holes on the harness? I'm sure this is really frustrating for those of you who have done this kind of thing before. Thank you all for your patience!
  23. So do you skip the wire harness all together with these and just cut the wire you're trying to connect to then use this tap to connect the new wire? See, I told you I'm clueless about this stuff!
  24. trabbic, Thanks for figuring out how to do this and for the fantastic write up and walk through. I'd like to do this but have no experience with car stereos or electronics. Could you please post a picture of the wire connectors and "taps" you talk about using? Thanks, -Ian
