  1. I should have taken pictures of the stock strut when I had it apart to do the Koni inserts. There is a bump stop (I believe) that you simply remove and then slide over the top of the Koni insert. I wonder if this can (or should) be trimmed. From what Myles at RCE is saying, this is something that should be done (well shorter stops anyway, not necessarily trimming them) with lowering springs of any kind. I wonder if there's a shorter/stiffer version of the OEM ones that can be had.
  2. Not likely for a Subaru. Stranger things have happened though! OK, the before and after pictures... Also, I couldn't wait any longer to start fiddling with the Koni struts. I backed them all the way out to full soft today. Wow! Very smooth ride! Nice and supple yet still stays flat in the corners and very, very little squat and dive. I'm liking this for now but may go a tad stiffer like a quarter or half turn more firm. More install picts here. Cheers!
  3. Probably not but I bought some anyway as I also have a set of the 3/8" spacers just in case. Pictures are delayed as the camera went with my wife to work today!
  4. Long day! Eibach Pro Kit springs and Koni adjustable struts are now on. Initial ride impressions are very positive. Very drastic reduction in squat, dive and corner roll. Going to give them a few days, get an alignment and then play with the struts some. They're all set to one full turn from full soft (total adjustability is about 2 1/8 turns from fully soft to fully firm) for now. I hope they don't need much adjustment because access to the rear strut tops is a serious pain the arse! Gap is about two of my fat fingers all the way around and I'm running the 1/4" saggy butt shims. Sorry it was dark when we finished so pictures will have to wait. Cheers!
  5. Sorry about the stereotyping. Guess that's probably not true for everyone over there. There are definitely folks who dig the big wheels here too. For me personally, I take my car to trailheads for hiking and biking and up skiing in the winter so a little ground clearance is a must. That and our roads can be REALLY bad, especially here where studs are still legal for part of the year. Hope you like your new setup! Keep us posted with pics! Cheers!
  6. I've noticed that you Kiwi's like HUGE rims and super low pro tires! Sick IS300 wagon! There's a few of those here in the states. Too bad they didn't offer it with a manual tranny, I might have been tempted! Cheers!
  7. Well, it doesn't snow here much. OK it snowed quite a bit last year but that was quite odd. I guess if I really don't like the ride I can always get some of these Group N bushings and swap back. I did get the front bushings as well as you recommended. New ball joints as well. ;-) Thanks to everyone who have tried this out and reported their results. I've got the offset AVO's coming with everything to be installed on Sunday! <- Very excited. Cheers!
  8. Thanks. I'm probably going to go with the AVO's. Now, increased caster or not?
  9. ^^^ Which is the email I used that I never got a reply from. Probably best to call them during business hours.
  10. Damn. Guess that means it doesn't matter that in the last month or so an email and two phone messages have gone un-returned by them. Oh well, guess I'll have to get some AVO's then. Cheers!
  11. The problem with dropping these cars that much is that there's NO suspension travel left to soak up bumps. If you drive on smooth tarmac all the time and don't mind the bone jarring ride of sitting on your bump stops then by all means get the S-Techs. You can get the slammed look and more suspension travel by using coilovers.
  12. Reviving this thread with a call for help. I have a suspension install scheduled for this Sunday and after repeated attempts to reach Dave at Rallispec I finally did today, only to be told they won't have any more of the rear LCA Group N bushings in stock for another 2 weeks. Now for the begging. If anybody bought a set of these and have not yet installed them would you be willing to sell them to me? PLEASE!! Thanks!
  13. I think you could find someone to take those off your hands. Post up in the Member Classified area and I bet they're gone pretty quickly!
  14. Good luck finding the Eibach springs. They've been discontinued. Fred beans is out. Subyshop.com doesn't know where any more are. Tirerack might have a set or two left. Shox.com still showed them a couple days ago but don't any longer. Cheers!
  15. Howdy Cali folks! Wife and I were just down in the SFO area (Mountain View to Napa for some bicycling). We had a great time. Much wine was consumed. While I was out riding on Saturday evening around 4:45 in Mountain View I spotted an Atlantic Blue wagon with dark gray Rota wheels and a bike rack on the roof. This was on Grant and Cuesta. I was the guy in the bright red cycling gear. Cheers! -Ian
  16. Umm, yes, we're talking about Koni Sport struts. They're the only Koni struts available for the '05 - '09 Legacy. What part confused you? Ahhhh, I think I know. It was the picture of the Koni's on the tirerack website (that you linked) that showed the bright yellow fixed perch strut. Read the fine print. You will find there that they are indeed the "cut a strut" insert system for the front struts in which you will use the stock/OEM front KYB strut and "gut" it to use to house the Koni insert. The rear is a direct replacement for the rear struts. I haven't heard of anyone trying the KYB's you linked. Edit: I stand corrected... http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119756 Cheers!
  17. Just remember the Eibach springs will look higher in the front with Bilsteins as they were designed to be used with the stock KYB struts. A better option would be the Koni struts. Cheers!
  18. You're welcome! Let us know where you find an '07 HU. I'm sure others would be interested as well. Cheers!
  19. mattaleao, Dude, you need to slow down and do some more reading. Only two parts needed for this: 86201AG67A - This is the '07 HU you've found to be very difficult to source. The iPod Integration kit is the second thing you'll need but I don't have the part number for the Legacy one because I used an Impreza one. They function the same though so no worries there. Both of these are super easy to install though. I'm a total car stereo newb and I figured out how to install them. Threre's a walkthrough on somewhere on how to remove the trim to get at the HU (check the "Walkthrough" section or even the first couple pages of this thread. Unscrew the old one. Disconnect all the plugs on the back, paying attention to what goes where. Then plug the new one in. The new one will have one hole that is empty. This is where the iPod Integration kit plugs in (or the satellite radio antenna but you can only use one or the other). Find a place to fasten the iPod control box (I used small zip ties and fastened it under the main part of the HU). Plug it all in and voila! OK, so if you want to route the iPod connector cable into your armrest cubby there's some further work involved but nothing any more difficult than what you've done so far. Then again if you've got your dad at a Subaru dealership and he's got friends in the service department I guess that would work too! It's just that most of us don't trust dealerships that much! Good luck sourcing that HU. Definitely check some wrecking yards and maybe put a post up in the Want To Buy section here. Cheers!
  20. Folks wouldn't do it if there weren't! Then again. No real gains unless you're getting some sort of engine management (open source, COBB AccessPort, or ...). Many folks have gutted the first cat in the DP to go stage 2. It's generally considered a good idea get a catless UP or gut it too. The UP is harder because it's a different material in the cat (much harder since it sees higher EGT's), hence the drilling that is needed. You need to clean it out real good so there aren't any leftovers to mangle your turbo. I believe there are walkthroughs for both in the "Walkthrough" threads. Cheers!
  21. Search is your friend. I've got you this time.... http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26232&highlight=steering+wheel I've done this in my '05 GT wagon with an '07 spec b head unit. It should work well for your application as well. Cheers!
  22. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175/Dark-V/FrontLCA.jpg What I meant to do in the other post. #3 is part number RST-2027R from Rallispec. This is the "rear" LCA bushing that, for many of us, is torn and you can look into your wheel well behind your front wheel and see it. This part is a Group N replacement and is MUCH harder than what came stock. #2 is part number 20204AG040 from any Subaru parts department is the "front" LCA bushing. Just to be clear this is actually a WRX/STi part so you're prepared for them to give you grief when they know you drive a Legacy. Cheers!
  23. It's the "absorber" or damper they're referring to above when talking Bilstein HD vs. Bilstein on the spec b.
  24. If this is what you're worried about (and rightly so) then the Pinks and Eibachs have the least drop. Then again, I'm not sure if the Pinks drop is measured on spec b Bils or the GT's stock KYB's. Oh yeah, I'm referring to the info on the Wiki... http://subiwiki.com/wiki/index.php/BL_(2005-2009)#Handling_Modifications Edit: Looks like the Tein H-techs are a pretty mellow drop as well.
