  1. Update on my tranny work. Had a bolt shear off the pinion ring of the front LSD and punch a hole in my case yesterday on the freeway. Took me a few seconds to realize it was me doing all the smoking and burning then I got it off the road and stopped as quickly as I could. Hopefully just need to buy a replacement case but don't know if there was any internal damage yet. Shouldn't be with how much oil I left on the side of the road. Later.
  2. Did you try any of the online vendors? If your local parts department can get them then so can the many online sites that are associated with Subaru Parts Departments like: http://www.subarugenuineparts.com http://www.fredbeansparts.com http://www.subaruparts.com Here's a more comprehensive list: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42243&highlight=online+parts+vendors Of course it could be that the price on these have gone up since it was posted. That post was from nearly three and a half years ago. Cheers! Edit: Looks like the price has gone up. Not sure this link will work... https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html Nope. You'll need to do what I did and copy the part number from the first post and then "Search by part number".
  3. Cross post (sort of) from the Group N Tranny mount thread... OK all fixed! Turns out it was the main bearing in the transfer case that was making so much noise. Apparently this bearing is right at the back of the transmission and right under (approximately) where the shifter comes into the cabin. Hence the reason I could hear it so well! I brought it home with me and will try and take some pictures of it. Basically the roller bearings were all a little pitted with one or two having some huge pits in them. You can also see where the heat was building up and turning the steel black. I had all the bearings replaced, the first gear synchro, a helical front LSD installed, a TSK3 tranny snout kit installed and a new ACT HDSS clutch and WRX flywheel installed. Total damage (parts, labor, shipping and sales tax) was ~$4400. Damn! That's the first time I've added it all up! Maybe I should have just done the 6MT swap! That breaks down to ~$1200 for the front LSD from Rallispec, ~$1000 (minus $400 in Subaru Bucks so really only $600 ) for the clutch, flywheel, TSK3 and 4 qts. of Extra-S from Fred Beans Parts (Thanks Jeremy and crew!), and ~$2200 for the labor and small parts (bearings, synchro, seals etc.) from a great local Subaru shop Outback Automotive (Thanks JohnJohn and crew!). Cheers!
  4. No problemo! Not sure what the second part number is. Maybe the face plate of the HU? I believe $450 is what I paid. It may be more now, if you can find it. Like I mentioned, they (being Subaru of North America) had a hold on these as they were running out of them. Maybe you're cozy with a local dealership's parts department and they can get you one. Good luck and let us know how it works out! Cheers!
  5. Sorry for being short earlier. I was in a hurry. Yes, it's a long thread. That first post should be amended. Unless the '06 spec B has a different sub set up than my '05 GT has it will work fine. As will the steering wheel controls. I know because I actually installed the spec B steering wheel with audio controls into my '05 GT wagon. Also, you only need the first part number listed (86201AG67A Radio Ay Up2 $450). You can also use the iPod Integration module Subaru sells with this head unit (https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_43&products_id=1479). I'm not iPhone savvy so I'm not sure what they mean by "2nd generation" when they say it doesn't charge it. I believe there are adapters that will allow charging. Let us know if you have any further questions! Cheers!
  6. Your sub will work and so will your steering wheel controls. The hard part is actually finding a 2007 head unit as they put a sales hold on these a while ago. Maybe they've got more now and you can find one. You really need to read these two threads you posted in. All the info is here for you. Cheers!
  7. I was quoted $4400 for this, but I'm in Washington state.
  8. I would bet that the Spec B tranny would be cheaper. STi 6 speeds might be more common but are also pretty popular with the WRX crowd as an upgrade too.
  9. No broken gears for me but I have some bearings (hopefully that's all) that need to be replaced. Likely will have it opened up sometime this week. OK, I did have 3rd replaced after a friend of a friend of a friend who didn't know how to drive a stick as well as they let on drove my car for 9 hours. That was fixed under the 5/60 warranty. Unfortunately I'm at 70K now. I'll report back with the exact extent after it's fixed. Cheers!
  10. OK, I've got it now. Thanks for spelling it out in such simple terms. I'm usually not this dense I swear. Must be one of those weeks. Cheers!
  11. Thanks for clarifying the shifter linkage question Mike! That's what I was hoping would be the case. I'm still not real clear on the rear diff gearing though. You talk about Option 1 above but I was referring to the second option: "Option #2: Transmission Choice: 2006+ STI 6MT Rear Differential Choice: Stock LGT R160 Axles: Front - Stock LGT, Rear - Stock LGT" This makes it sound like like you can use the stock R160 and doesn't mention anything about re-gearing the rear diff. Then you read this part in the Pro/Con section: "2006+ STI 6MT has a 1:1 stepper center differential which allows you to use your Stock R160 on the 07+ cars, if you use an 04-05 STI trans.. the GT 5MT came in 2005-2006 4.11FD 2007-2009 5MT 3.90FD (PRO - Cheaper CON - weaker rear diff if using the R160)" But this is about as clear as mud to me. So, does this say you need to re-gear? I found an '07 STi tranny and according to cars101.com the '07 STi came with a final ratio of 3.545. According to the same site my '05 LGT has a final ratio of 4.111. So, do I need to get it changed to 3.545? Sorry to pick nits but if this is to be the "6MT master swap thread" why make folks go searching for more information? Why not put it all in one post? Then again, it may just be that I don't know enough about this stuff to understand what's being said here. It could also be that all the information is in the original post but the way groff worded it has me confused. I'm not trying to be an ass. I'm just trying to figure out how to make this work. I've read this thread like 5 times and I'm still confused on this rear diff gearing. After all that I think I'm going to pass on this for now anyway. If anyone is interested Millenium Automotive has an '07 STi 6MT kit available. Cheers! -Ian
  12. Thank you all for the great information on this! I have read and reread this thread and HD's pioneering install thread, but I have some gearing questions (obviously I didn't re-re-read them! Or take notes ). I know it's likely been answered by unclemat at some point in here but perhaps groff can edit his original post so it's a bit clearer. The section of the original post I'm referring to concerns rear differentials and how they are geared: "2006+ STI 6MT has a 1:1 stepper center differential which allows you to use your Stock R160 on the 07+ cars, if you use an 04-05 STI trans.. the GT 5MT came in 2005-2006 4.11FD 2007-2009 5MT 3.90FD..." So, does this say if one uses a 2006 or newer STi 6MT donor, they can use their stock rear differential ONLY if the LGT it's going into is a 2007 or newer? What would someone need if they were swapping this 2006 or newer STi transmission into a 2005 or 2006 LGT? Also, with regards to the shift linkage and shifter. Would the linkage out of a spec B not have to be modified to fit more centered in the console? Or is everyone (except HD) just not driving with their "ash tray" door open so it doesn't interfere in 3rd and 5th gear? Thanks!
  13. If it's got SAT and AUX buttons you're good to go. I was wondering why it was so cheap!
  14. Wow! Nice find! Does the seller have more available?
  15. Lucky you! Where and do they have more than one set? I'm sure other members here would want to know! Cheers!
  16. 7716-140 Not sure what good it'll do you though, they've been discontinued.
  17. Rallitek has one set of springs for the Legacy. They work on both the sedan and wagon. The wagon looks lower because the rear fender is cut a little different and it's carrying an extra 100 lbs. or so. I believe the only option for the OB is the Megan Outback coilover. Cheers!
  18. Woah! Nice old thread bump there teK! I had to reread it because it's been so long I forgot I read it the first time!
  19. OK, one negative I just discovered about lowering... I can no longer get my foot in on top of the rear wheel to wash my roof!
  20. I hope you've got REALLY smooth roads in Oklahoma! The S-Techs are super low. Might as well just not have springs and ride on your bumps stops. OK, that may be exaggerating a bit but not by much. I'm really loving my Eibach and Koni setup. Still getting the struts dialed in to my liking but I got to push it on a freeway exchange a bit today. Me very happy. Cheers!
  21. Thanks for the clarification EvilCamaroSS. Does anybody have the part number for the back element? Thanks!
  22. Thanks for the write up! My back element died recently but I'm not sure I'm up for this. Then again, it's a Sunday night and I'm tired so maybe another day I'll feel more up to it. I saw a part number posted (64111AG14A). Is this for the bottom element or the back element? Cheers!
  23. Last I checked they were backordered for a few weeks. I couldn't wait and got the AVO versions with increased caster offset. Very happy so far.
  24. Yup, that's what they look like. I'm very interested in this as well. I'm also interested if the Koni "extenders" would work for our struts. I remember a discussion somewhere else about them. I can't remember where at the moment. I'll go back and read those threads again later. This must be what Underdog was referring too.
