Chronic issues I've had is shitty rebuilt calipers rusting and actually rusting inside the piston bore where the seal is and causing the caliper to stick, which then in turn over heats the rotor and warps them.
I'm on my 3rd set of calipers since 2010 I believe... I just did a set maybe 2 months ago, and this time I bought a set of Coated Centric calipers. I'm hoping they last since I will be carrying them over to my 06 Legacy that I'm building. You'd think that a piston dust boot would be enough to prevent rusting in there and all you would need to do is paint the caliper itself to not have the exterior rust, but that hasn't been my luck lately.
You would know if had this issue by fact that it would be near impossible to press the piston back into the caliper when doing a pad change, and also I've had times where I've gotten to work and you can see smoke and smell brakes coming from one of the front calipers that is sticking.

I can confirm my 06 is also in red.
I'm happy to be going to this cluster soon vs my 07.

Exactly, and the bigger issue was getting the main bushings. Subaru doesn't sell those separately so all you can do is poly if you decide to refinish an old subframe. I was going to blast and coat my original and replace the bushings but I didn't want to go to the poly option. Same with the front diff support bracket.That's not terrible when you factor in buying another one, then getting new bushings and refinishing it..Scotty
There were also a few other lateral links that weren't worth the trouble of cleaning, coating and replacing bushings vs buying a brand new unit.
All the powder coat I had done was only $425 so that was a steal.

Fresh powder on the knuckles, trailing arms, backing plates, front engine cradle and trans cross member. Rear cradle I bought brand new since the only bushing replacement option for that is poly, and this is going to be a daily driver after all...Oh my. From what I could find only Honda had VNT turbos in a production vehicle in 88 and that was in Japan only too. I was extremely surprised to see something like this on this car. I wish I had the time right now to tear them off and see how they are setup, but with my 96 Beretta apart, my 06 Legacy down to a shell, and needing to help my father on his 34 Chevy, I've got enough on my plate right now... lol

First post has photos of the drivetrain... I haven't had any of it out yet so those are the best photos that I have. You can see how they just welded bosses to the side of the 282 Getrag transmission to bolt the adapter housing to for the transfer case... and trust me I've looked everywhere to find out what that came from and I can not find an application anywhere... it's not from the automatic 3t40 AWD Pontiac, it may be a one off case that they made for this testing to work with a 5-speed.

As far as my 06 project goes... I got my Group N motor mounts yesterday. I got all of the iWire connector housings that I need to replace on the harness due to aggressive people. I also got a set of DW850's to go with my DW300c pump, and lastly my goodridge brake lines also showed up.
Today I need to think about ordering my EJ257 short block and a pile of other miscellaneous parts...

So in 2018, I had the opportunity to buy a car that I had learned about many many years ago and hoped someday to simply be able to see it at GM's Heritage Museum. When it sold at Barrett Jackson in 2008 due to GM needing to liquidate it's assets I figured that chance was gone. In 2010 it surfaced once again on Ebay and amazingly was local in CT. I took this opportunity to go to the dealer that had it (original buyer from Barrett Jackson) and at least get some good photos of it and be able to see it. Back in 2010 I was in no position to buy this car so once again it was out of my reach. That was that until 2018 rolled around and the Feretta was making headlines again in our group, another concept car (V8 FWD) that sold at the same time and another member was trying to obtain to save it.
When I saw that member obtain the Feretta, and others start to ask about the AWD TT car, I decided since I knew were it once was, that I should research it again. I was now able to purchase this car and luckily the original Barrett Jackson buyer still had it. Emails were sent and we agreed upon a price. I went and picked it up the next day. The nice thing about buying the car from a used car dealer/collector, he was able to re-write the bill of sale to have the actual vin number that was noted on the door and under the carpet, this allowed me to register the vehicle as a 1988 Beretta CL 2.8L v6 car. On to the back story about the car, as found in HotRod Magazine June 1998 Edition.
Since buying this car I have found a few items that needed to be replaced or serviced since it’s been sitting so long… Lets start with the fuel system. Luckily the tank and everything else was in good condition and working order, the injectors on the other hand… those needed to be fully replaced. Being so old, one failed shut and another was stuck open. Car ran, but not well at all. I did get the car running and driving for Bfest 2018, but unfortunately the turbos were not up to snuff to perform the way they should. They are variable vane turbos and the rear one the vane system is stuck in the quick spool location. They are supposed to transition to allow more flow as the boost rises but the actuator was stuck. That’s a project for the future when I really dig into it.
Items replaced so far, fuel injectors, water pump, motor mounts, brake pads, rotors, rebuilt calipers and master cylinder. I’m sure as time goes on, I’ll find more that needs to be replaced and fixed, and hopefully when I do, I’m able to find parts for it.
Final plans for the car, Full drive-line tear down and restoration to how it was when they were last testing it. I don’t plan on upgrading anything other than getting many items cleaned up and powder coated. This car will stay as original as it was when GM had it in their heritage collection.
Updated list of things I have modified or changed since getting it.
Rebuilt all brake calipers
replaced all brake pad
replaced all rotors
replaced fuel filter
replaced water pump
replaced all engine mounts
replaced fuel injector since 2 were dead
replaced braided fuel lines due to leaking/vapor issues
tore down, cleaned up and rebuilt brake master (can't find seals to replace, application unknown)
Installed Moates chip adapter and created new bin/chip to idle better, lowered MAF tables.
welded in O2 sensor bung so I can monitor O2 with wideband, No narrow band used at all.
replaced Battery
replaced missing VIN tag under windshield

That sounds like Barry?LOL a Beretta! Only person I know that mods them is a friend back in PA that is trying to make a RWD drifty boy out of his first car...I have a feeling you know him given how small the Beretta community must be.In other news. I am hoping to test my rebuilt power steering this week.

ESP clocked mine at 255whp 310ft lbs running 19psi from a VF46.The mustang dyno at ESP in Sterling MA is known to be a heart breaker when it comes to HP #'s. Not surprising... They rust out like a mofo... LOLhaven't seen a Beretta on the road since the late 90'sI own 3... That one which is my 12 second street legal drag toy, a stock 1990 Indy 500 Pace car and a 1988 Twin Turbo 5spd AWD Concept car.

Did your wife pitch in with the work? Since you have so many hours invested, I would apply some Fluid Film or CRC Marine Corrosion Inhibitor on the undercarriage. Beautiful shop, btw. Is that your home or work?
Yes she did... She supervised and funded some of it... She also just went to pick up my 06 heads from Larry's Auto after he refreshed them. I do have pictures of her somewhere doing the head torque on her own engine back in 2012 when we freshened that up. She's a good sport and helps where she can. She's also a teacher so this year has been pretty chaotic for her to say the least.
That's my father in laws shop, my shop isn't tall enough or thick enough slab for a full lift and my work I'm surrounded by screens and servers, I'm an IT Admin, and yes we sprayed the F out of everything with Fluid film... That was one of the other things we were in there doing. We are trying to make this car last since nothing out there these days is really peeking our interest, and honestly we don't want a new car payment. Every one of the 9 cars we own are fully paid for... and my 07 was the newest... LOL.

I remember doing ball joints on my wife's 04 forester when we got it back in 2012ish IIRC... When we did that I painted them with antiseize... this past fall we just did a full subframe refresh on her car, replacing everything that was quite rusty with some new fresh bits from WA... those ball joints were the easiest ones I've removed ever... 8yrs of daily driving it through CT and RI, and they still slid right out. Same with the lower rear lateral bolts, those came out this time like butter too... OEM ones had to be cut out, seized inside the bushings and knuckle.
So many hours and fresh Subaru bolts in this car now... LOL
My recent 06 project that I started on they popped right out of the knuckle with two whacks on the control arm. This car is really coming out to be everything I hoped... in the lack of rust department at least... lol.

I would think with the Brembo's you would not have the same issue I was having... Aluminum caliper vs cast iron... yours shouldn't rust.
