  1. I haven't seen anything about the RA short block that has insured longevity over anything else. That's why I went with an 06 shorty and just opened up the gaps. I ended up at average of 0.015 on the top and 0.023 on the intermediate. That's between stock and what my forged CP setup has. Oh and I made my own Koni adjuster tool from two extended tools glued together... LOL Works great on the rears! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  2. All the more reason why I gapped my brandy new short block... It's making me feel more and more confident that is going to be a major contributor to longevity. Intermediate ring had a smaller gap than the top? Mine averaged around .009 for the top and .014 for the intermediate. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  3. Is this modification only necessary when you change your injectors? After reading the romraider post it appears so. I'll be good until I go top feed I guess. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  4. How is that gauge that useless after modding? Is it not based on the flow rate of the injectors and average ms pulse while driving? As long as you tune appropriately I can't see why it wouldn't stay accurate. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  5. We make more of industrial light transmission type cables vs data transmission. Our biggest customers are medical for operating light guides and heart monitors, and our government military contract. If I told you any more I'd have to kill you... LOL Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  6. I'm fearing that the 06 dash is to this point of "stickyness" Its white and chalky now, not what I remember when I bought the car, but it's also very chewed up around the Cubby area from the PO's removing that without using plastic tools I'm guessing. I was planning/hoping on swapping in my 07 dash into the 06, but of course I'm sure there are some differences that will end up making that a headache... If that doesn't work I can only hope I can clean up the current one and maybe seal it somehow. Also updated my "it's running" post above with a video.
  7. I run the IT department at a Fiber Optics manufacturer. We have government defense contracts so that's initially how we would have qualified as "essential employees" we also never closed during the whole pandemic. Sadly they took away the category that would have covered us. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  8. Well it's alive! https://youtu.be/PFEJoasCDrMNo bad noises, oil pressure, good coolant temp, and no leaks! Now to just finish up the brake system... Oie... Oh and put the intercooler, intake elbow and battery back into the 07 daily... LOL Poor daily... LOL Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  9. Yeah CT was supposed to do the same thing but at the last minute scrapped that plan. I've been working pretty much as normal since late April or may of 2020. I spent some time working from home but being in IT and the only tech at that facility I had to go in to fix shit. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  10. Yeah CT nixed the essential employees deal... Now I wait for the 35+ age group to be allowed to register... MAYBE April 12th. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  11. I believe that's the section that they said they could not change at all. That resulted in my car failing on its first emissions test after the swap. A quick discussion with the DMV and proof of a replacement ECU purchase was all they required to add an exception to my VIN(s). My 96 Beretta I was able to change the VIN in the bin file and it updated the whole ECU.(huge generation difference and platform but OBDII) I've never had an issue with that car when going through emissions, always registers as the correct vin. 12. I've been running forged CP pistons on the street for 8 yrs now... I built my engine in April 2013. Over 100k on it right now. It's noisy and burns more oil than a stock piston setup, but it's lasted this long. Really can't say anything bad about it other than the excess noise from them. My new engine for my 06 is going to be all stock except for the turbo will be a VF52, easy setup to make a reliable 280-300whp that will last(with supporting fuel mods). That's enough to get me in trouble so I stop there... LOL Oh and stock shortblock setup... Just open up the ring gap, what do you think is causing the ring land failures? It's the rings butting up and cracking the piston. I opened up my 06 shortblock for a piece of mind. Check the stock specs to my before measurements and you'll see one was too tight to begin with. Guaranteed failure there. 13. My 07 hasn't been garaged since 2010 when I got it and my dash has not shown any sticky spots... [emoji2371] All that I can say is I don't use any shine products on it either. I just wipe it down with a microfiber, every few months lol, to clean it off. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  14. Not sure, but when it gets plugged into the emissions machine the vin is not the one on the car. I'd love to know where the vin is located in the ROM because I have the ability to flash that. I know that's how it works on my Beretta but I was never able to find a vin value in my 07 tune file. As well as I was told at the dealer that the ECU's are burned with the vin and it can't be modified, it can only be written to a new ECU. I had to trailer the car to a dealer to have them fix the immobilizer since when I plugged that ECU in it wouldn't start. I'm not sure what he had to do to fix it, maybe updated those other components to match the ECU vin, but it's been running like this for years. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  15. When I did this on my 07 they said there was no way to re-assign a new vin to the used ECU. Key programming was easy. That being said I had to mail a letter with proof of replacement to the DMV so when I go through emissions the vin miss match is allowed. Copying the tune of course can be done with any tuning tool, accessport or open source. I doubt a dealer would put anything other than the factory tune on it though if they did the swap, liability reasons. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  16. Two total... That's all. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  17. I would honestly be surprised if the scuffing was actually caused by too tight of a clearance, vs the increased clearance over stock. I'd have to go back and check but I believe I ended up at three thousands of an inch PTW on my CP setup and that's pretty much always noisy. I mean you don't hear it when you're cruising on the highway, but even warm if you're driving around a parking lot the slap is auditable. It's been nearly 100k too and it's still together so it can't be that bad... LOL it's just annoying. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  18. I wonder if you'll have the diesel clack that my old 07 engine has... Man I can't wait for a quiet short block again. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  19. LOL well I did clear coat the heads and block so I wanted the paint to get up to the edge Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  20. Just test fitting some parts... Still waiting on the second turbo bracket to arrive. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  21. Yeah looks like the original crank pulley... I may replace it. I didn't mount the intake because I still have a few other things to finish up, plate, install and order and I like the open access with it out for doing that stuff. Also imo the engine is way easier to install without that monstrosity on top of it. Subframe was blasted and powder coated with most everything else. The arms of the front and rear suspension were mostly replaced with new stuff since it was cheaper to do that then coating old stuff and doing new bushings. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  22. Ok so it seems like there is nothing stopping me if I have the parts, and I will have a complete 07 engine when I get done transitioning to the 06 for my daily. Thanks for the feedback! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  23. So to do a top feed conversion on a side feed motor Why does everybody end up going with the aftermarket parts versus scrounging for components from a factory top feed car? The reason I ask is when I'm done building my 06 I will have an 07 engine that I can cannibalize and if I can use the injection system from that I may upgrade my fueling later in life once my 06 is running. My current plan is to just get the VF52 setup up and running with what I have, and if I am maxing out the fuel system, which seems likely, I will upgrade to a set of 750 top feeds over the summer.
