  1. you guys are too entertaining sometimes. this thread was supposed to be about the process and being a potentially less expensive actual brembo upgrade for the community. it's now turning into who's dick is bigger thread. it's funny as hell (i'm from the old school where this shit is normal and funny at the same time) but i think we get the point that no all people will modify their cars for a certain reason other than attention or a look. granted, everyone does have an idea of what they do and do no like. if no one else other than myself actually mounts and tries these calipers out they will never know! there is a ton of information on these now on both LGT.com and NASIOC and other forums. what happened to the subaru community? yes, this thread isn't about stance or wheel specs or fitment or maybe it is (less the stance thing). i'm just trying to enjoy the car and honestly the brakes perform pretty well (i feel better than the great LGT stock brakes). Tires also play a role in stopping distance as well and it's all valid but in each case someone will only be able to have one type of thing change out and will the results of this upgrade by noticeable? I surely think so. now everyone hold hands, kiss and make up LOL
  2. I had these readily available at home so I'm gonna use a quick release on one side going to the compressor line and then have a quick release female on the other side for the hose I'll use for the smoke to come out of.
  3. Got it. My tester is pretty much done. Lol. Did some arts and crafts at work today. LOL. I updated the design a little hoping for longevity sake.
  4. When I say bases I meant the triangle bases that mount to the car is different. Yes it s a 2001/2002 STI. the angle at the mirror mount is different causing LHD drivers not to be able to have the proper angle when installing JDM mirror set. The glass is the same just field of view is slightly different and you cannot adjust them enough to be able to see properly. That's refreshing knowing they decided to correct this afterwards. In order for us to install them on the USDM base (triangles) we have to modify one of the 3 mounting holes.
  5. well, i'm trying to not open the system to test different things assisting the smoke getting through is what i'm after. it should be shut if the car is off. if you turn the key on, my understanding is for idle purposes it will open slightly. i was told earlier that you should be able to insert the key into the ignition then turn it to the on position and then mash down the gas pedal. that should open the throttle.
  6. Do you have pictures of the caliper after you shave it down?
  7. thanks for the info guys... i did this for my STI a while ago and i'm finally getting around to doing this for my LGT LOL. anyway, with the Impreza, the bases of my mirrors are different. they are slightly more angular on the JDM set causing you to use the USDM bases so you can get the correct field of view. Is this the way it's on the LGT?
  8. just to clarify... the smoke test is to identify vacuum leaks in the entire system? if i probe through the turbo inlet it'll go up to the throttle body. but if I cannot open the throttle body due to it being DBW how will it test the intake manifold? is there another area we can use to do that? I'd imagine that if we can crack open or stick open the throttle body without starting it like a DBC car it would help a bunch more right? I need to still create this smoker so i'm building supplies right now. I believe home depot, lowe's and hardware hawaii are the most common places we have on island. we had a few Ace hardwares but i believe they closed and we have City Mill too. I'll see what I can find. empty paint can seems accessible but I'll need to check.
  9. i don't know how much movement the wheel will have due to direct contact though LOL
  10. READ EVERYTHING and look at the pictures well BEFORE asking questions So the new ATS calipers are installed. They are similarly sized like our STI brembos. Unlike the XTS calipers I had earlier where you needed to load them from the inside before mounting them onto the bracket and rotor, the ATS (correct ones) can be loaded from the outside like STI brembos. It sits closer to the center of the rotor as expected and has a lot more contact patch. The line on the rotor is from the XTS calipers sitting too far away from the center of the rotor causing the pad to over hang about 1 inch or so. There is some (very little) over hang still with the correct calipers but it's very very little. I have confirmed with the manufacture of the bracket adapters required for this that this is how it's supposed to be. I sent them these pictures earlier today. We get about 99% pad usage. Now... For the fitment of the different wheels I had available. First up, USDM STI 17" +42 SPARE TIRE As you can see it physically mounts up... BUT it makes direct contact with the inner barrel. The problem I mentioned earlier. You CANNOT use these even with a spacer! Next up, OEM USDM Legacy GT 17x7 wheels. I think these are +53 This is WITH a 5mm spacer just to get it to clear the caliper housing. There is about 3 threads on the lug nut holding it on. Notice the scratches. That's from it colliding with the caliper when I tightened up the wheel. It makes direct contact with the caliper as well similar to that of the STI spare. As you can see it physically mounts up with a spacer... BUT it makes direct contact with the inner barrel as mentioned before. The problem I mentioned before. Further, if you notice the sticky weights it'll collide with the caliper if it weren't already making contact with the inner barrel So unless you plan to compromise wheel integrity by shaving the inner barrel of the wheel OR shaving down the caliper housing it will NOT I repeat NOT fit under stock 17" wheels. BUT it CAN fit under other 17" wheels that have a larger inner barrel. I didn't get a chance to fit my friends prodrive wheels on today. I'll try and get to that ASAP. The feeling of these calipers are a lot better than stock in my opinion. I'm running OEM rears right now. Bleeding these are pretty easy and as long as you follow the FSM (factory service manual) for the procedure you should be fine. Remember do outer then inner for the additional bleeder valve from 4 piston setup. Similar to STI brembos.
  11. Found another leak location we can add that wasn't added. The MAF o-ring. If it's torn or smashed that'll add air into the system
  12. I just used a paint can at the turbo inlet and tightened down the hose clamp. removed the feeding line from the bov/bpv and blew into it. heard the leak immediately and ended up using soapy water to validate its location on the intercooler. I posted. here's a quick video of the leak found: https://vimeo.com/165609538
  13. LOL! it's been a little while but i believe the STI rotors have about 1" space between the inner barrel and the rotor when the stock wheels are mounted.
  14. Thanks! these are 18x9.5 +35 245/40 I believe. I'm on a stock-ish alignment right now. I plan to add some camber in the rear via a white line kit but not much. the edge of the tires are hitting the dog leg caps on the front side of the wheel when i have my kids in the back seat and we hit a bump that requires a little bit of suspension travel. I think I've got 1 degree on the top hat on the front i believe. I've got aluminum LCAs, BC coilers and kartboy end links. i'll be working the suspension a bit more as soon as i get a chance to work on my STI LOL
  15. Thanks, I was planning on fabricating my own vs buying... so i won't see the instructions provided with the purchased one. would you be willing to post the instructions or PM me the instructions?
  16. I was thinking the same thing but the RTV has to be high temp or something. I'm thinking about doing the BP mod as well before I invest on an upgraded intercooler.
  17. Did you see my reasons why it doesn't fit? I think unless you've got a lathe and can shave the inner barrel evenly and put a spacer then it could possibly work but wheel integrity would be compromised. I'll put them on tonight and see and show why it won't work again
  18. It's going to go through a major change hopefully soon. Got a bunch of stuff chilling on the side waiting for paint and to go on.
  19. sorry if this question has been asked. just found this thread as I found a leak in my TMIC end tank on the passenger side front side just before the intake manifold. does this correct for leaking cores or is this to safe your core from leaking? if the core is leaking, does the channel in the aluminum allow for such gap? Thanks!
  20. Found a leaky intercooler [emoji25]
  21. Ok! Game on. Calipers arrived a few days ago. I was off island. Sorry for the horrible photos [emoji23] for clarity... these are the XTS calipers vs the ATS calipers since i have both in my possession at the moment before i send the wrong ones back LOL
