  1. My '05 had the tray, but no filter. Easy fix for me, just placed a filter in there.
  2. Found this. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/5eat-torqueconverter-gurus-please-help-188711.html
  3. Are you thinking about drilling another hole on the slide arm of the lift to extend it another 3 - 4 inches? I'm sure that would work.
  4. Good times! As Kzr750 mentioned, everything went smooth besides the little hang up on the torq converter, but that only gave us a 15 min headache. All and all, we had it out and on the stand in 3 hrs. Here's a few pics.
  5. Saturday would work for me too, I just need to know by this Wed. if it's a go, so I can adjust my schedule for the weekend. Cardboard is another plus for placing parts on. My 2nd bay garage was line with cardboard on the ground. Easily to see all the parts laid out in the order of disassemble.
  6. Yup, having enough room to pull the motor and an area to disassemble all the parts is important. The key to a good build is organization. Also, taking pics of each step of the tear down will make you life easier when putting everything back together.
  7. Sundays are perfect for me. Saturdays it won't be until after 5:00 pm.
  8. Let us know if you want us to meet with you next weekend for the dismantle?
  9. You should know, in CA, depending on the county, they either will do a visual, OBDII, and sniffer. Here in Fresno, they do all 3, so I have to make sure everything is in check before I go for a smog.
  10. Same here, with all of us, we should have the motor dissassemble easily within a day.
  11. Have you decided if you're going to split the block yourself and have the machine shop recondition the internals or have a builder do the whole block (split, machine, reassemble)?
  12. Stage 1 will pass with no problems. I'm stage 1 and each time I do the test the results are very low (good). That's because we still have the stock DP on.
  13. CA states that if you live in a highly rated smog area, the tests are going to be more strict. Less smog area will have less restrictions on testing.
  14. This is all you need to know about the different smog test sites in CA. http://www.smogtips.com/passing_inspection.cfm
  15. ^^ True. 11mm is overkill for a DD. If you plan on racing, then it would be a good idea.
  16. It's not going to hurt any by dropping in new pistons/rings. But the main question is, how is you're oil consumption currently? If you're loosing a quart of oil every 1000 miles, then it would be wise to rebuild the shortblock. This was my problem, I was going through a quart almost every month. To find out that I had a cracked ringland and scoring on the cylinder wall, causing a lot of oil loss. Once your heads are off you can check the cylinder walls for any scoring.
  17. Few things to add here. Intake to turbo - check the rubber around the turbo (intake side), if this hasn't been replaced before, it maybe a good time to replace it. The rubber at the turbo will break down over time. Bulk fuel hoses - ??? - is this used to replace venting hoses? Pistons/rings - You can drop new pistons in as long as the rings are measured correctly, this is one of the defaults from Subaru. Are you seperating the block? Oil pressure gauge - If you don't have one, it would be good to check oil pressures on start up.
  18. Unless you're doing a lot of road racing, the tower brace doesn't serve much purpose in daily driving. Just saying that the shock tower is already connected to the firewall and adds to additional brace.

  22. I bet you guys will be putting 2 washers on, the 1 washer just doesn't give it the right tone. 2 washers is not that loud, gives it that boxer rumble, and has no drone inside the car.
