  1. The weak part of the motor are the pistons, getting forged rods is not going to make the pistons any stronger or last longer. You'll only need the forged rods if you plan to go stage 3 and beyond. Otherwise, forged pistons is your better option.
  2. My question is....wtf is taking your machine shop sooo long to finish everything (3 - 4 weeks)? It only took my shop 2 days to do the work.
  3. Ummmm......no! After 100k miles that gasket is toast, time for a new one.
  4. Yup, my valve covers started to leak after about 3 - 4 months of heat cycles. After redoing them, they haven leaked since.
  5. Don't get all crazy with ring clamps, find one that works and tighten it until it's firm. You may have to go back a week later after driving on the new motor and re-tighten it. I had to re-due both valve covers after 2 months on my new motor, so don't over think things, because you're gonna have to go back and re-tighten things after a few weeks.
  6. Did you have the heads resurface? This is the most important part of the build. I learn this the hard way the 1st time I redid my head, oil squirting out all over the place.
  7. Stick with the Subaru head gaskets, it's just as good as Felpro or better. Reuse the half moons, that's what I did. Just slap a lot of sealant around them and put them back in place. They are higher up on the heads, so it's not a big deal.
  8. If you had a good machine shop, the block should only take a few days. I shipped my block down to L.A. to a well know Subie shop, known for building Subaru/Mitsubishi race motors. Received my block back in 1 week, and this is what they did. Hone out the cylinders Polished and balanced the crank & rods ACL race bearings CP Pistons All for $2,000 shipped
  9. Either way, Manley or CP are going to be great pistons for your motor. Whatever fits the best, is going to be your best fitment.
  10. Awww man, that thing is awesome. Can't wait to what you make with it. http://store.makerbot.com/replicator
  11. I'm sure they won't do you wrong by any means, just a little skeptical, because they haven't done Subie motors before. Really hope they get it right the first time. We don't want another Waspy thread again....
  12. The only problem is, you won't know until it's installed and running. By then you'll already have your block back. Hope it works out.
  13. I'm wonder if my injectors are going bad. When the car goes into "limp" mode, I'll put in some injector cleaner and it fixes the problem. Seems to happen every other month now. The injectors have 140k on them. Might be time for new ones or have them rebuilt.
  14. WTF That's all they do? "F" that, I would look into replacing them with steel braided lines.
