New audio/navi accessories in Japan

A couple of the latest items for the Legacy from the Subaru audio catalog. Quite a surprise, actually, I should have been paying attention more.

 

A double DIN Center Panel with brackets for Navi units:

And second, their solution for moving the Information Panel down to your ashtray location from the Center Console you've just placed your new Navi (or double DIN audio) into.

Paul's new set up is better. Notice there is a lip above the readout to block the light so you don't wash out the display in direct sunlight. I hate when you have your cubby open and the sun washes out the display.

I am a proud owner of a 2005 Legacy GT sedan, but I am very disappointed in the lack of accessories offered to the US market.

 

I see that the Japan market has multiple configurations of cubby space parts, as well as TWO options for relocating the information display to the ashtray area.

 

This, coupled with other garnish / add on items, and the ZERO availability disappoints me. Why can these parts not be made available to the US market? Those that desire them can get them, and those that do not will not have to buy them.

 

Please tell me why the US market suffers when there are multiple enthusiast clubs & websites dedicated to setting their Subaru apart from other owners.

 

how about a frickin' rear wiper - i miss that from my SVX. yes, Impreza and Legacys in the U.S. have to deal with rain and snow, too.

Well, just a note here - the first option that I had up was from a outside tuner house, not SOJ itself. This new info screen option (and nav bezel) is now on option from SOJ as OEM solutions.

Does that outside tuner house have any center cubby gauge mounting solutions?

So there are no ways to make these things fit our US subbys?

+1. I like Paul's picture. The 2nd one is "just" ok because it's now inside the ashtray door. The 1st picture looks like it was put there on purpose. And the display sits a little back to give it that "we don't want the sunlight to obscure your ability to read the display" look. very nice

I hope that both will fit the USDM Legacy GT, as they are relatively simple parts, and should give you guys an option for Double DIN installs or Navi installs.

I posted about this one and I found it as a Do-It-Yourself on some Japanese website . I guess the one Paul is selling is the "official" one.

I really like the relocation for the trip computer - nice. Any US vendor selling them? Also, is there a way to use both the system you install (where the stupid cubby is) and the stock radio? I want to install something in there.

to resurrect this thread a little, from looking at things for days, I do not beleive the nav screen kit will fit the usdm, if you look at your cubby, you have a gentle curve on the passenger side, and sharp curve on the driver, if you look at the one on avo, its reversed.. because of them driving on the other side of the road obviously. As far as the information center relocation, I dont see why it wont work, anyone have any more info on this thing? anyone tried it? wiring harness etc.?? any info is much appreciated

Ok, I've finally gotten the set in, and taken pictures. There is indeed a wiring harness supplied with the information control panel relocation bracket.

thanks so much for the pics, 10 pin harness with 7 pins used eh? I'll hafta research that if I can ever figure out how to "disconnect the pawls" to get my cubby out.

 

As a side note however, I still want to urge people to take a look at the navi cubby trim in the pic there and compare it very closly with your cubby trim, mainly the outer edges of the vents and how they curve, I do not beleive it will fit properly in usdm models, but would like a definate on that one

for LHD models, the left air vent is bigger than the right air vent. the above pic shows the opposite...

But at least we can use the info panel relocator.

^ Yeah I think I'm gonna do that just cuz I can, then put a cubby in the toppart behind my screen so I can have some extra storage......I like it down there.....or put in XM in the new space

Well people have runt he wire down there anyway....so ti will reach it JUST is long enough from what I hear

I just moved mine this last weekend and the cable is really tight (the front the display is touching the front of the ashtray cutout and wouldn't move more then another cm forward). It actually looks pretty good down there as long as you don’t try to match the curve of the trim panel (then the display points downward). Looks like the bracket angles it the same was as the cubby.

 

There's 9 pins on the cable and connecter. However a quick search of the electrical manual only shows 7 pins used...

 

I ended up ordering the kit since I'd rather not deal with the hassle of trying to fashion a bracket and plate (plus I may end up moving it so I'd need the cable). I’ll report back when it’s done (hopefully with picts).

I'd love to do this but can't justify the extreme cost of these simple parts.
