Yea, not the most plug and play per say. But I love the look and feel of them. I'm still rocking the stock seat belts too. I've done the reading about if you can't do 5 or 6 point stay with the lap belt. Who knows, I may do the 4 point down the road. This car is a daily and chances are if I get hit, it won't be pretty anyway.

Lots of discussion of the safety thing lately. Consensus seems to be stock 3 point + airbag, or 5/6 point + HNRS. Everything else will cause instant and painful death... :p

My airbag is long since gone, and I'm not really sure I trust a 24 year old airbag anyway. I'm using a 6 point, and will be adding HNRS soon. Most now say HNRS is mandatory with 5/6 point, but I figure racers went without them for decades. I ride motorcycles, so I understand risk mitigation, but there's always some risk. The risk of BSF without HNRS on the street is higher, but I also figure impacts are less likely to be frontal on the street. That's the one direction I have some control over.

One thing that is universally considered unsafe is a 4pt, and I do agree. The chances of internal injuries are pretty good, and it's less likely to keep your head away from a roll bar in a street crash where you get rear-ended without the lower belt.

I haven't really done the research, but never really understood how a stock 3 point was 'safe' but a 4 point was inherently dangerous. Wouldn't an extra belt on your other shoulder be slightly better? It's obviously not as good as a real 5 point.

As I understand it, with a 4pt the inertia in your body at impact will tend to cause the lap belt to slide up from the hips into the abdomen, causing a potential for serious internal organ damage. The '5th' point belt was originally called an 'anti-submarine' belt, because it kept the lap belt secure on the hips and prevented the body from sliding down and forward.

With a stock 3 point, the upper torso is able to pivot forward from the unsecured side, bending at the waist. This movement dissipates the upper body inertia without causing the whole body to slide down. The problem is that without an airbag, or effective belt tensioning (both questionable in an NA), you're probably going to contact the steering wheel.

And, of course, the argument with 5/6pts is that the body is so well secured, all of the inertia of the head can cause BSF if not held back by HNRS...

there are a few 4 point harnesses with anti submarining technology...or ASM.

I used a schroth 4 point in my 3.6r. Takada has one as well...make sure it is ASM.

So, I got tired of waiting for my water neck block off to ship, so I cancelled the order and made one myself...

The only reason I ordered it in the first place was to save the fabrication time... :p

The freeze plug that goes behind it should be here tomorrow from the local parts place. While I was in fab mode, I went ahead and made block offs for the EGR as well.

Also sourced a bolt I needed to test fit the coolant re-route spacer on the back of the head...

Tomorrow, I'll place what should be the last order for gaskets, o-rings and little stuff, so I should be able to get the engine buttoned up by the end of next week.

Then the fun starts: wiring the MS3...

I hear ya... I still have a thing for MkI Capris (had one in HS), and would love to build an RS3200 replica. But, prices for clean cars are going up, and parts are getting difficult to find, not that they were ever plentiful.

Exactly.

Mostly the same reasons it's a good idea to use a catch can/ oil separator in the PCV line. Keeps a lot of crap out of the intake that you don't want there goofing with your mixture, or lowering the relative 'octane' of the intake charge.

  • 2 weeks later...
Discovered my top's rain rail is completely thrashed along the trunk side. From the cabin side it looks good, but the other side is torn and cracked. New exhaust money just became new top money :(

Bummer... I recently traded my soft top and frame to a local guy for a Project-G bikini top. I tried to get the rain rail out in one piece for him, but that just wasn't happening...

I finally got the T/B on and the new motor buttoned up, except for the valve cover. Just haven't been able to spend any time on it lately.

This week's reason was the final component to our traveling road show...

I hadn't quite planned on getting a camper this year, but had been keeping an eye open for a good used one. This one is a 2007 Lance that literally looked like it have never been used. Generator has 7.1 hours on it... With full tanks, it weighs almost as much as 2 track prepped NAs...

It's going to be quite the rig going down the road, especially pulling the enclosed trailer, but it will be really nice to be self sufficient, both at the track, and for other pursuits. :D

Here's the basic info and floorplan from the original Lance brochure. Camper is a 2007 Lance 981.

Pics are with the slide-out extended. It's very roomy. I debated a long time about getting a slide-out because of the extra weight, but decided it was worth it.

This thing literally looks like it was never used. The previous owner took very good care of it!
