rodan
Wow that's pretty cool. I decided to buy a cool breeze scoop and a roll up window shade from Moss Miata's interior sale. Those cool breeze scoops work great... only problem is they will deposit bugs and bug parts in your lap...

rodan
Got the rest of the cruise control wiring removed today. This is going to take longer than I thought, 'cause my 50 year old back can only take sitting on a milk crate with my head stuck under the windshield for so long... Scored a lightly used 1.8 alternator with a Garage Star pulley on MT.net for a good price, so one less part to buy... I decided to stick with the 1.6 bracket, which while heavier, is much more robust. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/RodanAZ/Miata/VVT%20swap/DSC_9587_zpsnfjhpfpl.jpg
Chris GTO TT
Pretty sure my alternator just shit the bed this morning... Nasty squeezing sounds and the voltage light on the dash... 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight
Chris GTO TT
Installed a remanufactured alternator, no more screeching bearings and no more low voltage light. 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight
rodan
Plodding progress.... Finished up with the harness on the driver's side under the hood. Removed the wiring for the AFM, Diagnostics box, cruise control and airbags. Before: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/RodanAZ/Miata/VVT%20swap/DSC_1860_zpsj2lnuukm.jpg After: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/RodanAZ/Miata/VVT%20swap/DSC_2045_zps8cabhfxu.jpg Clutch master cylinder still has to go back in, and I need to sleeve the wiring, but I'm going to wait a bit on those. Starting to work on the passenger side now. I'd like to move the whole fuse/relay box behind the firewall... still figuring all that out. Also got a nasty gram from the town code enforcement nazi telling me I can't park my trailer in my driveway... Had no idea there was any such code... 1/2 the town must be in constant violation from what I see driving around. Guess they need something to do. Now I need to look into trailer storage...

laz
Make sure you use OEM belts. Could not get rid of the squealing until I got an OEM belt. ---
rodan
If you're just getting squealing at startup, it's likely the belt... double check the tension and see if it stretched/slipped a bit. I've been chasing a chirping belt issue on my Bronco for a while. It's better with Gates belts, but I can't seem to get rid of it. Happens more in cooler weather. I've come to the conclusion it's a spot on one of the pulleys. If I get ambitious this summer, I'll pull everything and wire wheel the pulleys... KartRacerBoy
Good lord those things look monstrous. Do they fit the NC if the car is stock? And it's not too much tire for the chassis?
rodan
Requires fender roll, and at least 1.5 neg camber... The STR AutoX guys are running 255s on NCs... Edit: a little more info... the RPF1s have a 45 offset and stick out a bit more than most fitments for the NC (48-50). A 235 on a 48 offset 17x9 will fit on a stock NC. A 245 on a 48 offset still requires a slight roll. I originally wanted 6ULs (which are 48), but they were a bit heavier than the RPF1s... and the real deal maker was getting $320 in rebates from Discount Tire on their Memorial Day weekend sale. They could get Enkeis, but not the 949 Racing 6ULs. Edited May 28, 2016 by rodan

rodan
No... the NA is the "race" car... Only got one little rub in the rear over a big bump in the middle of a corner at full speed. And the tires... HOLY MOTHER OF GRIP! Couldn't even get a squeak or slip out of them on our local mountain road. Gonna have to wait for track time to explore the limits. The wheels look better in person than in photos, but RPF1s aren't all that exciting anyway. They are light, though... Function > Form in this case. Chris GTO TT
Just not sure I want to spend that much money on a Miata, it'd have to replace both my spec.B and my NB2. 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight
rodan
PRHT is where it's at for a DD, but soft top is better if you're going to do any serious track work. Roll bar solutions are still pretty crappy for the PRHT, but we only track the car where a bar isn't required. That's one reason I'm going full retard with the NA... it'll be the track car, and I can keep the NC more street oriented. The new Fab9 NC turbo kit looks pretty nice... especially with a 2.5 swap. What I'd really like to do, though, is put an LFX in the NC. I think that would make the perfect Miata...
