05GT Guru
Range is not really important for most fighting - firepower is. Only snipers really care about range. (OK, range is like comparing dick length so it's something that's up for any gun) The M16 doesn't have .556 caliber - it has the 5.56mm caliber. Smaller rounds - but you can pack more of them in the gun for the same weight in ammunition. And the shooter is able to carry more extras too compared to the 7.62. Personally I have a preference for the 9mm Swedish K, but that's out of service now, so it would be a 5.56mm. Lol that is a pistol round fired from an SMG. Apples to oranges comparison but the 5.56 is superior in pretty much every way.

ehsnils
Lol that is a pistol round fired from an SMG. Apples to oranges comparison but the 5.56 is superior in pretty much every way. I know - but the charge the 9mm cartridges have makes them unsuitable for most pistols. However - I do have training on the K enough to be able to take it apart and put it together in the dark, but not on the other guns, and that's also important. Not that it's impossible to re-train. And I'm in favor of the KISS principle. The number of moving parts in the K is very low. A solid bolt with the firing pin as part of the bolt, a trigger hooking the bolt, an ejection hook, a safety pin, four springs (one in the magazine), and an end cap keeping the bolt and spring in the box. It's up to the skill of the shooter to manage single round shots. (what could possibly go wrong? )

The idea sounds similar to a science fiction tale, but if the command will be successful in its quest – this time it may be real. We have been working on this (or a version of it) for years now. I think miltech advances that result from development of this suit will be feilded in the next few years but the total concept is many years of, despite what the researchers and SOF folk would have you believe. KartRacerBoy
Once I saw the first few tanks go up, I'd be out of my car and too far away to watch. Those things were missiles. That one that took off over the trees at 2:40 or so was like a small ballistic miissile. Some of the bystanders were complete idiots, as was the cop car in the last 20 second of the vid. Yikes. JJr
Holy shit Nils great post. The only thing that would have made it better was a tank shooting towards the moron taking the video.

ehsnils
In the 1930s, the American psychologist Burrhus Skinner popularised the notion of operant conditioning, the notion that an individual’s future behaviour is determined by the punishments and rewards he or she has received in the past. It means that specific patterns of behaviour can be induced by punishing unwanted actions while rewarding those that are desired. And it certainly works with rats and pigeons. This idea has since become one of the foundations of behavioural psychology and is an important driver of the way online social networks are designed and operate. Many have systems that allow people to like, or up-vote, certain types of content while disliking, or down-voting, others. An up-vote can be thought of as a reward designed to encourage while the down-vote is a punishment designed to discourage. ... https://medium.com/the-physics-arxiv-blog/aad9d49da238
