InnocentGuns
Was thinking about gates timing belt kit but 3xx would kill my budget. timing belt looks good and i think they may have changed it not too long ago. has 123k now. do you think i can get away with just belt n oil pump? http://s19.postimage.org/drq0vjl4f/2012_08_02_03_56_39.jpg
Max Capacity
IMO oil pump is fine, you might want to replace the crankshaft seal. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. InnocentGuns
Actually i dont think flow is adequate. looking in valve covers it seems it doesnt flow to cyl 3 near intake cam lobes. havent pulled valve cover off other side yet but my guess is same thing. gonna do a 11mm pump. Max Capacity
How dirty does it look in there ? I find it hard to believe you have low oil flow if the normal oil changes were done. In my thread "Got some new stuff for engine R&R" you can see photos of my heads at 154,000 miles to give you some idea normal looks like. Do you have pictures ? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. xt2005bonbon
Where's your timing belt guide above the crankshaft sprocket? Did you take it off or is it missing? http://allwheeldriveauto.com/subaru-timing-belt-repair-gone-wrong/
InnocentGuns
I think only the 5mt has that not the 5eat. inside valve covers at 125k http://s19.postimage.org/zakenssz3/2012_08_02_09_07_00.jpg http://s19.postimage.org/mhwanvhdb/2012_08_02_09_06_39.jpg
Max Capacity
I can't view your picture here at work, I can see xt2005's tho. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. InnocentGuns
I checked all of the bearing play for guides and they seem good except for the smallest diameter. it has good bearings but Od is scuffed up pretty good.
bmx045
whatever you do, do not buy an ebay timing kit.
InnocentGuns
Thanks bmx. i will probably drop the money for the gates kit and hope it holds up 100k stealership just raped me $55.00 for ac belt, alt belt, and lower cam bolts. which apparently no dealer in CT has in stock. bmx045
the gates kit is a good quality kit, should have no problem lasting 100k. what i do highly recommend is buying an oem water pump gasket from the dealer, its a helluva lot better quality than the one that comes in the gates kit. Screamin
Going cheap or not replacing parts during routine/preventative maintenance is always a bad idea. Eventually it will bite you in the ass.
Max Capacity
The gates kit they say is the same as OEM. I buy my drive belts from the auto parts store for less money, I changed them back at 95,000 miles and they are still on there. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. bmx045
the wp gasket is not the same, however.

BigTDogg MA
Nor is the pump, from photos I've seen. IMHO, it's also a good idea to replace the idlers "while you're in there". They'll be good for another 100K easily, and you can have piece of mind knowing another failure point is out of your way.
bmx045
head work is common when tearing a boxer apart. ALWAYS check valve lash before buttoning a motor build back up, the last thing you want to happen is a misfire and have to pull the motor again simply because you needed smaller buckets afterall. you can send your heads to be planed and cleaned up, valve seals evened out, valves checked, lash checked(provide them the specs). BUT... how the heck do you compress the springs since they are recessed?
bmx045
this is where subaru tools are needed. it's a giant reaching G clamp that compresses the springs allowing you to remove/install the keepers

Underdog
The adapter that comes with the OTC compressor is sufficient. No need to pay ~$90 for the SPX tool. The Crimson Dynamo

bmx045
you can try, my friend insisted he had to buy the adapter for whatever reason.....though i think he might have used a different brand compressor.
