Had to get rid of real bad smell in a rental car one time. None of the commercial products seemed to do anything other than add another smell on top a bad situation.

Kept alternating back and forth between baking soda and a vinegar and water spray. Also rather than air out the car I kept the windows up and bowl of vinegar in the car along with a fridge box of baking soda. Worked like a charm.

i just saw this thread.

i don't have any better suggestions than what's been mentioned already. def a fml situation, as unfortunate as it is, i have to admit, i laughed my ass off when i read this thread, knowing it's fish sauce

let us know if you come across a good solution. hope it comes out !

I want to vomit just thinking what this must smell like. It CAN'T be good. My only suggestion other than what has already been suggested is to hang a hundred "little trees" from a bar across the rear seat hangers.

Or, since it's fishsauce, you can just fishbowl it and forget all your troubles :)

^^ lol makes me think of the scene from the movie Seven where the guy is in the room with a million air fresheners.

Hey, look at it this way. You could always just get this one and tell people you WANT your car to smell that way.

Anyone know if its legal to drive while wearing one of these?

Tanner did it in Top Gear US.

Also, look at it this way -- if you get pulled over, just wait until the cop comes up to the window before putting it down. He'll understand right away.

You might want to consider taking it to ServiceMaster. The specialize in removing odors and what caused by smoke and water damage so they may be able to help. It may be expensive but it might be worth it. You could also just try a professional auto detailer. My dad spilled gasoline several times (don't ask) in the trunk of his car and he just took it to a fancy car wash and they got the smell out almost completely every time.

my dog had an explosive accident in my back seat once on a previous car, i bought something that with some air and scrubbing got all the smell out. i will get it in a little bit. its raining. oh, also used two of those stone rounded scented things and left them under the front seats. after about 3-4 days, all was back to normal. i'll get a pic and i hope it helps.

UPDATE:

its a new product from meguiars called Odor Eliminator for cars, trucks and home.

Is it on the seats or on the carpets?

If its in the seats, it might be more economical to replace the said seats as usually back seats aren't too expensive. You really can't do much about the seats as I spilled milk without knowing in the back seats once, it turned bad and it took 2 weeks to get the smell out.

For carpets, find someone with an extractor. It will basically pour hot steam in and suck it back out. It does wonders and will most likely fix ur carpets. Usually detailers would have an extractor. Carpets are not too hard has there isn't much underneath.

Its a front seat, floormat and carpet. The floormat and seat were soaked the worst. The floormat was like a puddle and has become our "TEST VICTIM" for cleaning/de-scenting. BTW, its an expensive power, leather/suede embroidered seat  Expensive even from a yard. Steamcleaning helped but did not get rid of it all the way.

Just so you know, comparing this to spilled milk is like comparing a sneeze to terminal cancer.

I am now judiciously adding bacteria that eat oil and enzymes that eat organic material.
