Front LSD worth it for winter driving?

I am look for a used LGT and was wondering if it would it be worth me going 5mt so that I can get a front LSD in the future. I have had awd cars, some with open diffs and some with LSD in the back, I just dont know if the front LSD will make a big diff(no pun intended).

I did see that there is a thread trying to get a group buy together for a 5EAT LSD but sounds like its gunna be pricey.

No LGT, regardless of transmission, had a factory equipped front LSD.

In the snow, or in ANY slippery condition, a front LSD on the 05 would offset the quirks of the rear LSD.

It is on my list.

Don't base your transmission choice on the possibility of spending thousands of dollars some undetermined amount of time in the future.

spec.Bs require at least 6 wheels spinning before they are stuck though. You have to borrow some from the cars around you.

Have you ever gotten stuck in the snow before, OP? If not, you're definitely not going to start with the Legacy. Unless you've always driven 4x4s in the past, anyhow.

I was thinking of asking this question also! I've had my 05 GT since new and only started upgrading about a year ago. Done was car payments so that money is going to mods.

I was thinking of doing the OEM unit from Rallispec. So... those who have it, is it worth it for winter/snow driving if not tracking the car?

Probably in the $2000 range if you don't remove the transmission yourself.

I consider the front LSD the single best mod I've done to my LGT. It transformed the car. In the snow, it was always very easy to spin / have the rear end slide before I had the front LSD, no matter the tires and certainly without driving like an ass. I used to dread lane changes in slush. Partly to blame is the lack of traction and stability control. Since I had the front LSD installed, the car become so much more fun in summer when cornering and so much more stable, composed and predictable in winter. Now I have to try to make the rear end lose as opposed to happening unexpectedly. I do not recall any instance in the past two years where I felt I did not have full control over the handling. Make sure you get the JDM unit which fits perfectly.

I'm about halfway through that thread (47 pages). I think I'll tough out this winter with my OEM tranny, then look into a FLSD for next year. Any cliff notes on which year STI front diffs will work with the 05 LGTs?

 first it's the clutch and flywheel for the 6mt now it's the LSD for the 6mt
