naimouasta
ok so today coming home from work was like any other day. got home stopped at home for like 30mins then went back out to the gas station. the car hesitated to start, but i thought nothing of it. got back home, car sat for like 7-8hrs. i had to go pick up my brother so i went to start the car, and it just clicked like crazy. sounded like a taser gun and interior lights dimming etc. all symptoms of a dead battery right? it is OEM battery and my car is an 08'. however when i pulled the battery to test. it showed 12.90V. i hooked it up to my charger, and it was charged in 2mins. the battery held a solid 13.00V. is that good or bad? good right? whats going on here? dead battery? bad starter? bad alternator killing battery? or some kind of drain? no, my parking lights are not on. all doors are closed. no lights were left on. if it is the battery i just dont understand why it would die in one day. should have showed some symptoms over time. most other batteries in my other cars have lasted 5+yrs. help/ideas appreciated. i will put the battery back in in the morning. rao
I'd vote for a dead alternator although it could also be the battery. A load test on the battery and alternator will let you know. naimouasta
well i measured my battery this morning, 13.0V. i put my battery back in my car and it didn't even turn over and crank. measured it again, 12.2V. so hopefully a new battery will fix the issue. still kind of confused how a battery can go bad so quickly. also how much should the car be draining normally with the car off? i've looked around the net and most people say 200mA at most but it wasn't really specific to subaru's. i'll probably check mine just in case once i get a new battery. AZP Installs
I would vote for a battery. Get a Max from Walmart. I've had great luck with them. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg AIM: AZP Installs | E-mail: sales@azpinstalls.com | 725 Fairfield Ave | Kenilworth, NJ 07033 | 908.248.AZP1(2971)| T-1 Certified Amsoil Direct Dealer "Race Tested, Enthusiast Approved!" mwiener2
Have you had any work done recently? It could be the battery if cells were damaged or shorted. Check for missing or bad grounds and make sure all connections are solid and clean. Will it start if you try to jump the car? naimouasta
well i changed my battery and all is well. i did get a everstart max from walmart. looking at the applications booklet they had, its weird that the 08 legacy got the group 85 battery whereas all other subaru's and years have always had the group 35. maybe this is were subaru cut some costs. probably no significance but i did find the OEM size battery, but it was only avaliable as a budget/value battery. so i got the group 35 battery. its the same length and width but about 1in taller. it has 640 CCA vs the old stocker 430 CCA.
