BoyceWare
Here's a couple quick ways to diagnose pickup issue: -In a parking lot or open area get up to 10 mph or so then move quickly left to right without changing throttle position. Does your oil pressure flucuate? -Do the same with a quick stop, and if you have a steep hill drive up it. Read my thread here, hope you figure it out as early as I did. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/oil-light-flicker-startup-cracked-oil-pickup-tube-232877.html
Scruit
Old thread, but my VDO gauge reads 60psi cold idle, 20psi hot idle and 60 while driving. 70 miles on brand new engine.
BoyceWare
New long block or short block? If it's just a new short block they may have reused your OEM pick up. You should be 90-100 cold idle, 80+ cruise, and 25-30 hot idle.

frank_ster
The heads can be a major loss of oilpressure. . Ask me how i know Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
Scruit
The heads were blueprinted at a shop that deals exclusively with headwork. The valve clearances were all double checked by then then triple checked by me. The cam bearing clearance is dead on spec for all 4 cams, all 12 bearings. This morning was my first commute to work on the new engine. Didn't skip a beat, sounds great. 20psi hot idle, 60psi at anything off idle. Asking about oil pressure is like asking google about health symptoms. Half the results are "Normal, that's what I get, just like me/mine" and the rest are "Cancer". I once asked about oil pressure on a classic car forum. Got two results - one was; "I've been at that oil pressure for the last 15 years." and the other was; "You have to rebuild the engine before driving it any further." quick4dr
Use to run Rotella T6 at 90psi cold idle: 20psi warm idle upper 80's 90's throughout throttle input. super hot off the highway idle 16psi Currently Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 92psi cold idle, 20-23 psi warm idle, super hot off the highway 19psi the lowest so far. silentsnow31802
Rotella Synthetic I get about 7psi warm idle. Seems low? Car only had 90k miles on it and has a full good service history. No issues that I can tell. Blackstone analysis came back fine.

Scruit
7psi? I would confirm that with a proper pressure gauge.

silentsnow31802
Eh I'll look more into it. I thought it seemed low but since the gauge install it's always been that low. It is a prosport gauge after all so might not be the most accurate. Sent from my C6916 using Tapatalk

Sent from my C6916 using Tapatalk Once everything's fully up to temp my Prosport oil pressure gauge reads 0 at idle The instant the rpms go above idle the gauge jumps up to ~15 psi. doobaruGT
I have a rallitek one I got for $35 at their closeout sale last year and I get surprisingly consistent and accurate readings, at least as it relates to spec's. Pennzoil 5W-30 (just switched from synthetic to conventional to combat consumption) Cold idle: ~80 psi and tapering Hot Idle: 19-20 psi Cruising: 80 psi Updated parts list since original part-out here. Holla
100% oem longblock, rebuilt 45k ago, with oem Sti gauge pack reading off the oem sandwich plate. Castrol Edge full synthetic oil, 5w-30, burns zero oil. Warm idle. 1.6bar=23psi http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/stevieteg/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsnijcagtm.jpg Cruising ranges 5.4-6.1bar=78-88psi http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/stevieteg/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsks4izlu3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/stevieteg/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps2852buxr.jpg Cold idle is also almost 7bar=100psi http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/stevieteg/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsztl2rymo.jpg
fullerslgt
Old thread I know. I just changed oil to valvoline full synthetic 5w-40. Feel like I'm running a little lower on the oil pressure now. Can a different type of oil really do that? Warm idle around 14psi. Dips to 10psi when rolling to a stop. Feels a little low? Cruising at 40mph I'm right around 40-45psi.
1-3-2-4
Cold for me like around 35F I'm seeing around 95-100 PSI at temp over 5k I see around 54-58 psi idle when warm around 10 psi people get too hung up on pressure when it's more so flow you are looking for I'm using the STI oil pump with the dual AVCS which I think is 11mm? Or is it 12mm? I'm using 5W-20 oil in which I used my last 5qt so I will be switching over to 5W-40 soon
fullerslgt
Ok cool. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. It's a newly rebuilt motor so I'm just trying to get used to my new setup. Thanks for the info.

Volta55
When I got my Blackstone report back, they recommended that I monitor my oil pressure so mechanical vs electronic gauge? I would love to have my BTSSM have an oil pressure gauge, it would look a lot cleaner without one random gauge mounted on my dash, but I am a bit overwhelmed by the TGV delete and installing the sensor and electronic hookup. seems like mechanical would be easier to install into the empty oil galley? (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/oil-pressure-gauge-install-empty-oil-galley-24956.html) wish these pictures worked
