One its not distortion, two after doing some research, they are perfectly fine for the stock radio.

So what did you end up doing? Did you go 2 or 4 ohms speakers? I don't think my HU is that bad. I have run setups with x-overs, multi-amps but, that is not what I want to do here. I just want to keep it simple. I just think the stock speakers could be clearer. I aready have a 10" sub mounted in the floor of my wagon so I have enough bass I just want alittle more detail. I aslo swap in a '06 mp3 HU so I can play MP3. The '06 HU sound better then the '05 HU. With my setup now I really take my HU over 10 maybe upto 12 if I have my sun roof open on the freeway. Thanks for the input.

just cause you buy an amp doesnt mean you listen to music loud,

picture a porsche 911 going 100mph

now picture a ford escort doing the same thing at 100mph?

which one will do it with little effort? cleanly?

just cause you have a amplified system doesnt mean your a bass head, get that misnomer out of your heads.

you want clean and clear, an amp and CS will solve alot of your issues.

Ok, I found out what I needed to know. The 2ohm door speakers I'm goint to get is safe with all factory and aftermarket radios.

Don't run Kappa's straight through a Stock HU! For one, you will damage the speakers especially if you're not running enough RMS to them. Those suckers require a lot of power and demand it! I had them and they are not for listening to talk radio! If you listen to a lot of Talk radio get some 4ohm's with a paper/silcone cone. Kappas are meant to be listened to LOUD! Look at the material they are made of!

Either run the Kappas with the Stock HU -> CS -> amp(with enough RMS) -> speakers

OR

Hook up some 4ohm speakers directly to the factory wiring.

Trust me, unless you like to listen to loud music, you're not gonna like Kappas.

p.s. the highs are also a little tinny...

ITSME You dont' need to buy spacers... just reverse the rings that they provide with the speakers so they are inside out (backwards).

Never heard of this option.

Pics?

or gut the stockers and use those as spacers...

That is an option, though a short-sighted one at best.

It somewhat kills your option of returning the car to stock if you sell, and spending $25-30 on spacers is cheaper than selling the car with aftermarket speakers installed because you cheaped out and thrashed your stockers.

they fit best imo (as they should) and i can buy new crappy spkrs for $10 at walmart if i wanted to sell/trade the car.

its never ever been an issue, when i get rid of my cars i normally just leave it as is... out with the old in with the new. ;)

I didn't like them too much and I don't think I'll purchase Infinity for reference speakers ever again. To me they are just too tinny and don't sound good at a low volume. I do however love my Infinity Dual Voice Coil Subs (10") They sound AMAZING!!

If I were to put new speakers into my Sub (which could be soon) I would probably lean more towards Kenwood or Boston Acoustic references. To me their timbre is more natural and warm. But thats just my ear's preference...

Which one did you have the JBL GTO 637 or the Infinity speakers and did not like them? I'm about to pull the trigger and would like input. Thanks
