Finally had some time to continue this project. Tore the heads apart and soaked them in a cleaner to get all the crap off of them. Reassembled them and installed the new head gaskets. Cams are in and timing components all installed. Waiting on the belt from Subaru should be in today so hopefully I can get the engine done this weekend.

Haha yeah everything gets bagged and tagged. It always ends up costing more in the long run if you dont. Ive really been enjoying building this engine. I think a 257 build might be in the future. Ive already started looking for blocks and bkttom end parts.

Engine is in the car. Running and idling perfectly. No leaks no noise. http://www.e90post.com/forums/images/smilies/happyanim.gif

Of course once it didn't run like that the first time I started it there was a pretty good oil leak and thanks to Darwin it was of course the rear main seal. Turns out the one i got from Subaru was not quite to spec. Not sure why it was leaking but it was leaking about a quart every 10 min. This was at 2pm Sunday. So I called Advance and the had a federal seal in stock. Had the engine back out by 3 back from Advance by 5 and engine running again by 6:15. Except this time I had a real high idle. Was around 2k RPM. Now I'm just getting furious so I just parked it and left.

Went back to it yesterday read the codes and got P0117 and P0122. Decided to say F the P0117 since I already replaced the coolat temp sensor and focused on the TPS. Grabbed one of the spares that I had in put it in still no change. Noticed it was adjustable so I started messing with it. Soon as I turned it the idle dropped to around 400 or so so I kept going and slowly raised the idle. Now it's sitting perfectly at 700RPM. Took it out for about a 10 mile drive and started seating the rings and loading the engine. Pulls good no misfires. Only code i get is the P0117. So going to start my research on that and then I'm on to the brakes. Thanks for all the help Gee-Otto!

You should have notched the engine cross member you know for future additions :)

Hahahaa well I figured the engine will have to come out anyways since it's high compression now. I went and looked an EJ257 block the other day guy only want $100 for it. Turns out he had it machined and then dropped it cracked the oil filter neck/piece off. So the search continues.

That job came out awesome! And right on time for some fun in the snow!!

Hahaha what snow. I wish we got a lot of snow here. But we're lucky if we get one or 2 storms a year.

Still throwing a P0117 code. I got a new temp sensor to install tonight. It's cause a very rich idle which in turn is causing a misfire in one of the cylinders. Once you get going though it runs great. Hopefully the new sensor solves it and I can get it to idle decently.
