metsfan999
crossing fingers that AZP has a fix for me and for those of you that suffer from the noise when I go in for my 30K service in 2 weeks!
JohnSoPA
IMHO there are two possible fixes for those with Epics... Sleeves/isolators, as AZP mentions, or... and this is pretty ghetto... torch the top coils that are supposed to be touching so that they completely sag onto one another. Sounds goofy, I know, but they offer no compression purposes anyway.
JohnSoPA
AZP, might want to check with Eibach. Looks like they have sleeves like these for Cadillac CTS springs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/G35Coupe/Car%20stuff/DSC05517.jpg I found that pic on this thread: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-v-series-forum-2009/231107-some-helpful-info-eibach-spring-owners.html
JohnSoPA
Here is another option... This is simply plastic wire loom repackaged... Look about 2/3 of the way down this page.
tito_b0y
Interesting. It seems I can only find those Eibach spring isolators from summitracing.com, and they're going to be available August 1st: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EIB-3510-7011/ I'm at work right now so I can't search any further. 2006 SWP 3.0R 5EAT VDC BBQ 2008 OBP 2.5i 4EAT BBQ [RIP]
AZP Installs
Yeah right now I think frank who is an engineer by day and works with us nights and weekends is working on something to slip over the coils. Similar to the wire loom, but I think softer than that. Mike
AZP Installs
They took some measurements off titos car this weekend so we will see how that works out. Mike
JohnSoPA
Just my $0.02. Be careful about using something too soft. It'll probably wear out. I'd rather see something thin but harder.
AZP Installs
This is true. That's why I quit engineering school I'm sure Franky will come up with something good! Mike

soloz2
Hmm... Anyone know if this problem happens with Eibach springs and Konis on a sedan? tito_b0y
Hmm... Anyone know if this problem happens with Eibach springs and Konis on a sedan? Yeah, baby! I fixed it. I found that I still had my Eibach Pro-Kit springs and I swapped them with the rear Epics. Went for a nice drive and man, the silence is great! I compared the two sets of springs when I took off the rear Epics. The overall length is about the same. The Eibachs have about 1/4 less of a coil at the bottom. More telling though, the gap between the top Eibach coils is about 0.26" on average. The gap between the top Epic coils is about 0.30" on average. Assuming that the spring rates truly are the same, this would explain why the Epic's top coils aren't firmly compressed in static load, leading to much "squiggling" around when the rear suspension compresses and unloads. Hope this makes sense to everyone. I'm gonna say 'no', the original Eibach Pro Kit is silent as a grave But with that said, as Mike mentioned a few posts above, Frank, their engineer, took some measurements of my rear springs two weeks ago. It was still noisy when I drove it out of the shop and the next day or two afterward, but these past two weeks have been very quiet back there. I can still hear a slight, singular creak at random times, which I can't replicate, and it only seems to be coming from my rear right corner. I don't know what Frank did when he was back there, if it even was Frank's doing, or maybe just a byproduct of the intense heatwave we've been having, but I'm very much enjoying the silence Will report back if it starts acting up again... 2006 SWP 3.0R 5EAT VDC BBQ 2008 OBP 2.5i 4EAT BBQ [RIP]
AZP Installs
As a followup. We figured out that essentially the only way to combat the issue is to keep em well greased up. The tight coil section under a no-load situation is causing the squeaking. If we slip on a hose to dampen the sound it will cause the car with static load to be too high in the rear. So right now we don't have a good answer. We thought it would be a much simpler answer like a pad on the perch or wrapping the coils. Will keep you posted if we come up with anything better. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg AIM: AZP Installs | E-mail: paisan@azpinstalls.com | 725 Fairfield Ave | Kenilworth, NJ 07033 | 908.248.AZP1 | T-1 Certified Amsoil Dealer "Race Tested, Enthusiast Approved!" Blue
If the source of the Epics' creaking is the upper coils rubbing together, and the Epics are identical to the Eibachs (which are silent) except for the paint....... Has anybody tried repainting their Epics....?
metsfan999
it annoys me that on other threads, people state that the Epics should NOT creak or make noise and that they are very happy with them. Did I just buy a defected item or are those lucky people just deaf?

I may stop by this Saturday to regrease, Mike Interesting... I wonder if it is perhaps an issue with that 1 spring? Perhaps it has to do with the konis? I'm not sure anyone will be there Saturday, we are scheduled to be at NJMP as of now but 1 or 2 guys may stay back. -mike
FredBeans
Thanks AZP for looking into this issue! We are sorry that everyone is having these issue's with the Epic's, they are an exact re-make of the Eibachs. Im not sure why only some of the springs are having this issue they were all produced in the same batch. Please let us know if any of you guys come up with a good solution to this issue so we can pass on the info to everyone Thank you
AZP Installs
They need to coat the springs the way that the Eibachs were coated in the past. While the spring themselves may be the same, the coating is different. That is where the issue lies in the upper coils. -mike

I think it just needs more grease. I noticed it wasn't much of an annoyance when it was stupid hot and humid here, but once the temps started to drop down to the 70s, the squeaking/creaking got louder. I also noticed when I'm at full stop and turn the wheel close to full lock, I get a singular creak, but don't know which side it's coming from. Fred Beans: Just wondering, if you get this issue fixed with future batches, would it be possible for an exchange of some sort? 2006 SWP 3.0R 5EAT VDC BBQ 2008 OBP 2.5i 4EAT BBQ [RIP]
