jcat213
I have a Perrin catted down pipe with a Magna Flow exhaust and It's killing me. I added an 18" resinator to the mid pipe, installed dynamatt in the trunk and hade it tuned by EFI logics. As a daily driver, I can not live with this, it's just to loud. Thinking about removeing the Magna Flow cat back, installing an AVO 3" mid and Y pipe and using the stock mufflers, gotta quiet this thing down without loosing performance. Give me some feed back. Gire
Years ago on this site we determined that the stock cans aren't very restrictive at all. It's really late though and I can't search for the old threads for you.
goneskiian
Lots of high power setups use a 3" mid/Y and stock cans for the stealth factor. I'm sure some folks running this setup will chime in soon.
underground000
Remove your resonator and replace it w/ a muffler. A guy around here is running this and its quite 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
robinlsb
you get another 5-8 HP with the F**T cans at stage II. "Belief does not make truth. Evidence makes truth. And belief does not make evidence."

BAC5.2
You can definitely make power with the stock axlebacks. They, like the airbox, don't become much of a bottle neck until upwards of 350whp or so. The older WRX/STi with the single exhaust would see HUGE gains from an axleback at very high power levels.. There was 30 whp difference between an SPT muffler and a 3" straight through version. That was the difference between 600 and 630whp too. MDKSDMF
im sure if u got rid of that perrin DP u might lose a lot of noise. maybe get a different brand or gut your stocker. Also, there are quieter CBEs like the spt..
jcat213
Actually, when I installed the Perrin down-pipe there was no noticeable change in cabin noise.
BAC5.2
Catted downpipes tend to be a little more subdued than catless. GTTuner
Actually, when I installed the Perrin down-pipe there was no noticeable change in cabin noise. Perrin DP's fit like shit. Actually anything Perrin exhaust looks like a fourth grade kid designed it. The Perrin DP is VERY close to the firewall. I went from a gutted stock DP to an Invidia catless and did not notice any more noise inside. I runs stock cans for stealth.
MDKSDMF
yes i have noticed through some research that the stock cans on any turbo back system quiet down the exhaust sound alot

TRSCobra
I'm running the entire stock catback with a blouch 20g-xt and I'm way down on power compared to the relatively small HKS catback I took off. I can't even hit 19psi on my 20 psi protune anymore. Now it could be the Y pipe that is restrictive, but I'm skeptical, especially after seeing what the mufflers look like inside. They're fine for the stock turbo, but my 20g moves way too much air at redline for this exhaust to flow.

coldsubycz
I have an SPTv2 CBE and like it, but it has some drone between 2500-3500. I'm going the third muffler route. Read these two threads. It has people that have the MagnaFlow system like you. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/adding-muffler-cbe-quiet-down-opinions-experience-needed-116598.html?highlight=spt+pictures http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/resonator-3-bosal-cbe-143923.html

coldsubycz
^No problem. Might be awhile before that happens. First I have to have the third muffler installed, then I need to figure out how to post a vid.

I would like to hear what this set up sounds like, inside and out. I am looking to do the same.
