I see some of you with this MSD coil pack... Can anyone testify to it's advantages / disadvantages??

I didn't notice enough difference to justify it's cost. Perhaps if your existing coil is giving you troubles then I would consider it. It does look cool.

My coil was giving me issues...as long as you wire it up properly, you shouldn't have any issues. I did wires and the coil at the same time, but there's something wrong with the mixture/something. The plugs are covered in gunk, and I think there's something internally wrong with how things are sealed. I will find all of this out in a few days when I pull the motor, but AS A WHOLE I did notice a mile or two more per gallon after the MSD pack. But, definitely do it if there's a problem with your existing coil, because if you're strapped for cash it might not be a good idea.

Year: 1999

Model: 2.5 GT

Transmission: 5spd

Milage: about to turn over 101K

Tire size and Psi: Stock snowflakes: 205/55/R16 32psiFront 30psi rear

Average MPG's: 26 city 28 HWY

Type of Driving: Spirited. I'm usually not going over 3,000 rpm's in the city. Merging on the HWY it's almost always a crazy fighter pilot thing so I'd say I hit 4K or so merging faster then my usual driving.

What's in the car: 170lbs of Latino + spare and a cool rubber trunk liner that says Subaru.

Mods: bone stock.

Coming back from Colorado to Texas I was getting about 29-30mpg's on the good stuff. The way I got that was to get the tires right at 32F/30R then try to stay under 75. Trust me it was really hard to try to stay under 75.....for 11 hours. The car did great!

Year: 1997

Model: Legacy 2.5GT Wagon (BK)

Transmission: 4EAT (Auto)

How many miles on car: 156k

Tire Size & PSI: 32 front 30 rear

AVERAGE MPG: 22.5 mpg

Type of driving: 40 to 60 mph - short trips to the stores, hiking, etc - 6 to 12 miles round trip mostly - No hiway miles at all

Driving techniques: Light and smooth on the throttle. - Have to go over a small mountain to and from home, so I have to get the rpm's up a bit to get over the hump. Otherwise, I do not really get on it at all. I drive like an old man these days.

What's in the car: Me and my two dogs

----------------------------------------------------

Only had the car 3 weeks.

First partial tank - Ran through 10 gallons of gas in 226 miles.

I thought this was bad until I saw the poll results.

Looks to be quite normal according to poll results.

Saw a 96 legacy wagon the other day just like my 97.

The owner says he gets 26 MPG in his 96

Year: 1998

Model: Legacy L 2.2l wagon

Tranny: 4EAT

Tire size: 185/70/14 32 front, 30 rear

Average MPG: 23

Type of Driving: Mostly around town. Very little highway. When I do hit the highway, 27 has been achieved.

Driving Techniques: steady. I avoid hard takeoffs. You wanna pass me? Have at it jerk! You can find the cop first.

Whats in the car? 95% of the time, just me and my small tool bag in the back (20lbs).

I've had it 4 months now. Very pleased with it. Got it at a great price, it has nearly zero rust, and rides great.

I fixed knock sensor, small rust behind each front tire, fill tube for gasoline, boot for rack and pinion steering, new front brakes. Oh, and drained/filled tranny fluid 3 times to solve torque steer issue. It worked.

For the first time in years, I can't wait to drive in the snow. I want to see what it can do! (within reason). I'm not an off-roader.

It will do amazing. Last winter I was pulling people out of ditches during the ice storm here in Atlanta in my 97 Legacy GT. The shock some people have on their face when they see an old 4 door sedan pulling a truck out of a ditch on icy pavement is priceless

John, show them the video of you pulling the dead van on a sheet of ice!

And you will never want to drive another car during the winter once you drive a subaru. Plus it's always fun putting the automatic into 2nd and then flooring it from a stop light to surprise the guy next to you spinning his front or rear wheels trying to just make it to 10 mph....
