proflatlander15
The next project for my car I ave decided is a sound system. Nothing too crazy, but something that sounds good. I picked up a few members' ideas and put together a stealthy sub box that fits in the spot above the spare tire in the trunk of my Outback. This way I don't lose any cargo space, but I still get the kick of a sub. Note: I am a not an acoustic engineer or audiophile, but I did get this done for $25. It was $10 for the wood at Home Depot, and $15 for the fabric and spray adhesive. The box was built in two halves. I started with the top half because it was easier. A few simple cuts, screw, and glue. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7418/01bottomcaulk.jpg Next up I fabbed the bottom. I used the circle cutout from the top, and put it in a modded 5 gallon bucket. This extends the bottom of the box for more cubic feet and a larger mounting depth. Here is a test fit of the top half mated with the bottom half. http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7861/02testfit2halves.jpg Next I set the height of bucket. This was kind of awkward, and a nail gun came in handy to tack the pieces together real quick. I realize a 5 gallon bucket is not the best material to use, but it was hanging around, and worked perfect. We'll see how it works I guess. http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/7763/04setbottomheight.jpg I added some vertical braces in the lower section of the box. I don't know if they will do anything, but I felt good putting them in. The crossmemebers come out in the next step. Also, I caulked pretty much every joint I could to maintain (or at least try) acoustic integrity. http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3156/03caulkandbrace.jpg Back to the top half. I cut out a hole for the speaker posts. http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/4121/05cutoutforposts.jpg Both halves screwed and glued. This is the box upside-down. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/5193/06bothhalvesbottom.jpg View from the top. It's looking a little better... http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/6971/07bothhalvestop.jpg Covering in fabric. I went with something semi-ridiculous and more importantly cheap. It's gonna be hidden anyway. I used 3M spray adhesive, it worked great; I have never used spray adhesive before. http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/7278/08plaidcovering.jpg All done. The box measures about 20"x20"x7", and has an internal volume of .66 cubic feet. I am using a Rockford Fosgate 10" sub. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8058/09finalassembly.jpg I can't hook it up yet because I don't have anything to hook it up to yet, but it looks pretty, and it DOES fit in the trunk of my car! proflatlander15
Haha thanks guys. It is ridiculous, and not one of the prettier projects I've one. And I'm OK with that. Now I just need a 5ch amp...

lofthouse_gt
I knew this rich chick in highschool that had a pink and black zebra striped sub box. The box was pretty unique I'll give her that, her sounds system sucked though!
bighaus90
Hey don't want to totally steal your idea but you mind sharing the measurments and specs on the box. I'm looking to do a similar build.
