pachilla
Kakimoto Racing makes a chamber for all N/A Subaru engines (2.0/2.5/3.0R) with a retail price of between $400-500 USD new. picture taken from the Kakimoto Racing website: http://www.kakimotoracing.co.jp/22-00_intake%28web%29/images/chamber_00.jpg Box from Japan http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1952/pict0002oz.jpg http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/4919/56415777.jpg http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/4932/56372640.jpg The LHD version has that A/C line (red circle) This line does not appear on RHD version, so the air chamber needs to be raised about 1 inch to avoid it. http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5923/97596087.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/462/img4406m.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4051/img4410.jpg JDM air chamber with tuned pipe for smoother air flow http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/9319/intakebox.jpg LHD versions had their tuned pipe removed (can still see the bracket holding the pipe inside) Due to the A/C line. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/5636/img4413x.jpg Factory LHD air chamber (dented to avoid LHD AC line) http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/8661/img4414.jpg Dent on the back to avoid A/C line Impression: Pro: Much better initial throttle response, finally the flat six roar instead of that electric wheelchair whine. Bad: Not a perfect fit for LHD model due to A/C line, a little too much resonance in the roar (trying to fix that right now...stay tuned) Gets pretty hot under the hood. N.sane
Wow, that looks great, seems pricey though. Do you feel it's worth it?
pachilla
Any tuning part for 3.0R is hard to come by, so damn the price!! There aren't that many things for H6 you can blow money at anyway.
GEE-OTTO
Looks nice indeed and +1 about the lack of fun for the EZ30/36D except for Tomcat and that guy in Aussie Land with a Twin Turbo 3.6R Legacy Spec B FTW:(

StoplightAssassin
What is the purpose of the air chamber?
mwiener2
Think of like an air compressor. The larger the tank, the more reserve air you have. By having a large tank before the throttle body, there's reserve, metered, air in there. So when you jab the throttle, there's plenty of air for the engine before the velocity in the intake picks up. That may be complete BS, but it makes sense to me. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
StoplightAssassin
I see...not sure if I believe it either, but at least the aluminum one looks nice. lol
mwiener2
You have to change how you think about the atmosphere we live in to better understand. That big metal tank is full of air at about 14.7psi. The air pressure on the other side of the throttle plate is around 5psi or less. So when the plate opens, the 14.7psi air rushes in. The bigger the tank, the more air for that initial rush. So I guess this thing will help mostly with throttle response and not all out power. Although it has a nice smooth bend into the throttle body so it probly helps top end flow as well. Pachilla are you in Japan now, or did you order it? can you give some insight on this? Yeah I would think a tune would be mandatory after that. I got a lightweight crank pulley and that alone caused my idle speed to change. Wondering about the mounting points and what type of mods are required for the hoses, clamps, etc. Looks promising keep us posted.
NORULZleggy
Have not herd back yet, still looking into this.
