JDM Kakimoto Racing Air Collection Chamber for N/A engine

Recommended Posts

The lag's electronic, not in the intake. A throttle controller gets rid of it immediately.

Improving the torque box/air intake will help performance, but if you added it to a car with the stock mapping, the pedal response lag will still be there (because Subaru put it there electronically).

My 3.0R has SI-Drive so the electronic lag is adjustable.

The biggest difference is the engine torque responded relatively quicker and stronger.

My 3.0R engine has weak low end torque before, and so so low end torque after........

Kakimoto Racing makes a chamber for all N/A Subaru engines (2.0/2.5/3.0R) with a retail price of between $400-500 USD new.

picture taken from the Kakimoto Racing website:

Box from Japan

The LHD version has that A/C line (red circle)

This line does not appear on RHD version, so the air chamber needs to be raised about 1 inch to avoid it.

JDM air chamber with tuned pipe for smoother air flow

LHD versions had their tuned pipe removed (can still see the bracket holding the pipe inside) Due to the A/C line.

Factory LHD air chamber (dented to avoid LHD AC line)

Dent on the back to avoid A/C line

Impression:

Pro:

Much better initial throttle response, finally the flat six roar instead of that electric wheelchair whine.

Bad:

Not a perfect fit for LHD model due to A/C line, a little too much resonance in the roar (trying to fix that right now...stay tuned) Gets pretty hot under the hood.

what's the diameter of that thing? in kinda reminds me of my 'jun' whale intake from Honda days

Looks like a nice piece of rice to me. And as for the throttle response comments, the 'lag' is not in the throttle, it's in the fact that we have a 2.5 litre four cylinder pushing around a 3300 pound car. I've logged my car and to WOT there is about 20ms delay between the pedal and the throttle plate. That is almost nothing.

This box does quicken throttle response somewhat regardless of the SI-Drive mode setting.

I used this on my h6 for 1 year almost. I tuned her via XRT, I noticed that when I floor it on the 3rd gear, A/F becomes lean then starts to be ok. That's just from memory, I think that explains the initial response.

I would say: NOT worth the price
