Antho303T
Yes I speak English!! The problem is not what you have to do but HOW. We don't took any measurement or any kind of information when we did it. You cannot use the STI bearing in the front for one simple reason. THE SIZE!! It don't fit on the knuckle. We tried everything to fit the 5X114.3 and did it the simplest way. If a customer come here to do this mod, I’m pretty sure it will cost it +- 1000$ in working time, machining and fitting. Add the parts and you have the price for this conversion. Ah and for your information guys, I’m noob here but I tuned cars since 17 years.
Antho303T
I guess the better question Antho303T is did you use a 08+ rear bearing/hub? If so would the 04-07 rear backing plate work with a STOCK BE rear wheel bearing? The bolt pattern looks similar. That is what I'm trying to determine. Thanks! Ben I used the 05 bearing and machined the trailing arm to fit it.
sixspeedlegacy
I used the 05 bearing and machined the trailing arm to fit it. You used a rear 05 STi bearing? How is that, they did not change to rear bolt ins until 08. the 05 fronts were bolt in but the rears were not. I am confused. Do you have a bearing handy to take a measurement of the hub diameter by chance? thanks! Ben
Antho303T
I'm sorry. We used the 08+ rear bearing. You can see it on the picture I post couple months ago. Edited May 12, 2011 by Antho303T
sixspeedlegacy
well we will see what I can come up with. I just ordered a legacy rear bearing and a tribeca rear hub to take measurements and see what can be done since other people are slacking. I am impatient and want to get answers, if I never checked then I would wonder forever if it could have been done. So hopefully tuesday of next week we will have more info and measurements. sixspeedlegacy
I haven't forgotten about this, I just haven't had time to go pick up the parts. I will for sure pick them up by this friday and take measurements this weekend. Ben
EpicRasta
Well, personally....I'm interested in this for the beefier hub bearings. I'm planning on doing 18x10's or 17x10's with fender flares. Although it would be nice to have a wider selection of rims....has anyone considered manufacturing better bearings for the LGT oem hubs?
sixspeedlegacy
Unfortunately it will not be a straight forward affair. It can be done with very minor machining. So this is definitely an option if someone wants to machine the tribeca hub down. Just FYI this is the rears only, not sure on the fronts. I think that will be less straight forward and may require something like an 05+ front STI hub machined for the GT strut mount. I did my best to take accurate measurements but they are not professional so take it as you will. There should be no concern with weakening the tribeca hub as it is only about a 1.4mm difference in total diameter: Legacy bearing:39.59mm Tribeca bearing:40.97mm So in reality you'd only turn them down slightly to make them slip in. The actual distance from the hub face to the back of the bearing APPEARS to be the same if not very close, likely not enough to matter in terms of rotors and brake mounting. http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00258.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00259.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00260.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00261.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00262.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00264.jpg Looks like my STi backing plate idea won't work either. Not enough material to weld and re-drill the holes. http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx207/whitemagicbmc/hub%20measurements/DSC00268.jpg Ben
mazdaslo
So, what is the solution here, seems like there is a great deal of interest in the community for a bolt on 5x114 solution, seems like a 600-800$ solution would sell 10-20 sets in 6 months, and 1-2 sets a month after that for a year or two, seems like at least 10K$ sitting on the table, 20 hours and 2k$ in development, not a bad investment, if i develop a working prototype any vendors willing to build and market it for me? Antho303T
Juste to let you know that the ABS sensor is a pain in the ass to fix on the new setup. Like you know, the LGT dit not use VSS to display speed. It use ABS output. It's no way you can do this mod for hundreds!!
bnguyenbb6
If there is something worked out for 5x114 I am definitely in.
failure
Pardon my ignorance, but is this what you need to fix the ABS? http://www.licmotorsports.com/products/lic-motorsports-absspeedo-ring-spacer-6mm_lic-0207116 Their knuckle swap according to them won't work for us, at least that's what one of the owners told me in a rather curt fashion. I'd really like to see this make progress myself as well.
Antho303T
This is not for LGT sensor. You can use it on GC and GD Impreza.
atchipmunk
Subscribed. I'd be interested in a 5x114 conversion mainly for the wider selection of wheels. In for updates...
G3nX09
Why don't you just use adapters?..
whitetiger
adapters usually come in the form of spacers. thick ones. that messes up the offset of the wheel you would use. a 20mm adapter/spacers would make a 48mm offset rim in to a 28mm offset rim. thats not ideal.
EvoFire
Not to mention, adapters would most likely kill the already weak bearings prematurely.
G3nX09
yes but there are 15mm adapters which are not thick like the 48mm or 1 inch that you see selling. i cant see 15mm being that bad on the legacy. As im bout to run them on my 06 LGT with 08 5 Spoke STI rims
whitetiger
^your final rim offset will end up being +33 instead of the +48 they are normally. that is too low.
kongzilla
True, but if you want stance, that is the route.
Drift Motion
Just came across this Because the 2008 sti and 2005-2009 legacy have the same wheel bearing. You unbolt the legacy wheel bearing with the 5X100 pressed on and the 08 up sti wheel bearing bolts right in with the 5x114.3 already pressed in. They are $55 dollars a piece on Ebay if you look around. I already did it and it works great. remember that the 2005-09 Legacy has the same setup as 2008 up WRX and STI. STi having 5x114 and aluminum control arms. Wrx are steel. That is why legacy suspension fits on 08 up wrx. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2421769
jamal
Pretty sure you can't do that.
BAC5.2
I think I've seen a thread where someone tried and the rear bolt pattern was very different. And legacy rear suspension is very different than WRX rear suspension.
