Conversion 5x100 to 5x114.3 on 05 LGT

If subaru went bigger for a reason, then why didn't the GT get them if the car weighs more that a STI and is close in hp #'s. I still don't get all the work and $ to do this. I keep hearing about bad wheel bearings. I have almost 85k on the car and track it and no bad wheel bearings yet. Maybe putting all this camber and toe in/out is causing your bearings to wear out much faster.

Because the STI is more of a hardcore car, and has beefier pieces to complement that.

and also, you dont hear about sti wheel bearings going bad ;)

That was only for the front of the 05+. The rear ones are still the same as 02 WRX+, at least for the GD model. The STi just used a different hub on the rear, the bearing was the same.

Has anybody actually tried bolting up a the STi front bolt-on hub/bearing on the Legacy yet?

You will only get the benefit of the wider wheels if you can't do the full hub/bearing replacement.

Lastly, the GD STi uses a tone-wheel and not the magnetic pickup for the ABS, so it possible you will lose ABS. Not a big deal for racing purposes thoug.

Unfortunately not yet. We are trying to wrap up some of the other projects before diving into this.

Pulling stuff out of stock to disassemble isn't really an option unless we have a very high probability of success. Until then we will just have to work with worn out units that come through the service department.

At the WBM I spoke with the owner of ESP out of Sterling, MA about the possibility of doing this conversion. Dave just recently finished swapping his 5EAT wagon over to 5MT so he is very familiar with making these kinds of conversions happen.

well, i was hoping you had a new sti or tribecca rear wheel bearing and new LGT rear axle on the shelf to see if the axle will slip in to the bearing just as a start to see if the splines are the same. that would be a good start.

The splines are not the same (reason for the special axles for the Spec B R180 at diff and R160 at hub). I have a rear bearing/hub assbly at home for the STI08 and I measured the bolt patern for the bearing housing and they are not the same as the LGT. I will have the rear hub out of the LGT in two weeks to show pictures and what I think will make it work.

I wonder if the extra hole pattern on the Spec.B trailing arms would help make this work?

You can see the extra hole here (pic is back on my prior suspension setup):

very intersting picture, Let me look at the normal LGT. From what I remember that hole is ot there.

FBP could you make me a sketch of the hole location. Maybe I say maybe the front bearing housing could fit in that hole. Let me go in the basement and pull out a picture for the bearing housing from the 09 STI!!!

BAck in 10 minutes

I know that the steel arms that were on my car originally did not have the extra hole, although from this pic you can see that there is enough material to have that hole drilled (top left of this pic).

Could you measure the inside diameter and picture the outside also? Here are the bearing housing from the 2008STI:

What are you looking for specifically?

Can you pictures a rear spec B uninstalled rear knuckle like you pictured the rear normal LGT?

Tell me if you would sell the rear normal LGT?

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the Spec.B arms before installing them in my car. We don't have any in stock either (would need to order from the warehouse).

We can sell you the new trailing arms, but I am holding on to my personal set unless you make me an offer I can't refuse. :)

^that is something you would have to take to the machine shop for. those holes better be spot on or nothing will fit. and i bet the hub plate is smaller on the legacy hub, so the studs would be too far out to the edge for good strength. but its worth measuring.

If the LGt hub are the same as the STI there is thicker metal where the studs are so I wouldn't try to redrill if that's the case.

The real reason to go to 5x114.3 is to use the R180 at the wheels so you don't have to use Spec B axles!!! anyway that is my only reason (plus the bonus to have more choice for wheels).

FBP can you tell me the price for a set of rear Spec B in PM
