Jcb890
How much power can the stock 5MT in the 05 Legacy GT handle safely and reliably as a daily driver? If this has already been covered, sorry, I didn't find it in a search. Thanks in advance.
fweasel
very subjective question. A DD means different things to different people. Some people live their lives a 1/4 mile at a time and others haul babies. The clutch is typically your weakest link before the trans itself. There are reports of people with warranty coverage of bearings going bad on 5MT's with stock power, so luck certainly plays a role. I recall once 5MT car with some much power, finally solved his clutch problem and then proceeded to snap a drive axle. FWIW, I DD my car with 357wtq and have had no problems with the trans itself. ignore him, he'll go away.
JoeFromPA
Keep the clutch as the weak link....it's probably the most easily replaceable Joe
HansGT
Stage 1 unless you want to replace the clutch.
Jcb890
Okay, I didn't mention it before, but lets pretend the clutch has been upgraded, I'm just curious what these trannys can safely hold.
rao
412.35 hp Seriously, there have not been consistent failures at a threshold power level. They actually hold up quite well to a fair amount of power. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
Jcb890
So would 350-400whp be safe with a stock tranny daily driving?
HansGT
try it.
rao
400 whp is less than 412.35 so it should be fine. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
NatesGr8
So would 350-400whp be safe with a stock tranny daily driving? yes, just don't launch
johnAWD
So would 350-400whp be safe with a stock tranny daily driving? My daily driver is an 05 LGT 5 speed and I'm right at 350 awhp and just under 360 ft/lbs. I don't launch the car and the stock clutch is still holding well.
