Wagon Folks: Will a resonator help?

Recommended Posts

Damn,

If you ever go back ther to the Levittown shop for additional exhaust work, let me know so I can come by and hear the car. I'm looking into CBE options for my 06 LGT wagon also. I'll even take video to post for you. I used to take my Mach 1 to that place back when it was on the road.

I just welded an inline 3" Magnaflow 14319 into my midpipe and it has really taken the edge off my exhaust - in a good way. The previous setup with 3" TBE to two Magnaflow cans was thunderous, and deafening for anyone in the back seat. Now it sounds a little deeper, significantly quieter and doesn't feel any different as far as power goes. This will not return your exhaust to stock noise levels! Even at idle, it's louder than any factory-built car.

So glad I finally did this!

I also had the Magnaflow 14319 installed into my midpipe this weekend. OUTSTANDING result. The wagon sounds like a modded Subaru should sound, but it's very civil both inside and out. Ready for a road trip now without having to deal with the drone that makes conversatings tough.

Now for a 2nd bump from the dead. I had the same done a few weeks ago by Custom Performance Exhaust. (Damn AVO DP didn't fit correctly and had to get that fixed too) It took out the BOOM chamber wagon cruising effect and now she GROWLS when you lean on the pedal.

Bumping this up as I need to do something similar.

For those that have used the Magnaflow oval muffler (14319) did you have it patched in a straight section or did you have it tucked up like spyguy?

Can any of you provide pictures?

Thanks!

Just had some custom work done to fab a new midpipe with the Magnaflow muffler to replace my Stromung midpipe:

Looks good! How's it sound?

Just about perfect - from the wife's perspective. :)

I think I would have preferred it slightly raspier/louder...but I've yet to hear it myself from the outside. The drone was quite bad on the inside before. I'll post some before/after video when I get a chance.

Great thing is that I still have my original unmuffled Stromung midpipe, so it's easy to swap back. :icon_twis

Before adding the muffler:

The decibel app is a bit crude, but you can see there's easily a 10dB reduction on startup; less of a difference at high revs. I think the app maxes out at around 142dB.

For reference, my phone was 2.5 meters away from the exhaust tips in both videos.

I'll add my $0.02

If you're trying to solve droning issues on a wagon, I have a Cobb downpipe and SPT cbe, which has zero drone. I'm convinced its bc the previous owner had a shop extend the muffler tips to the edge of the rear bumper ~1.5". Looks perfect and sounds awesome, zero droning.
