mmm def
Hey I am not satisfied with the stock horn, a little too "tinny" for my tastes. I would like to put in either a BMW or Audi horn, could I just go to the dealer, buy a horn, and swap them out? They seem like they are a universal fit. Thanks everybody. Edvig
Go to rallylights.com and pick yourself up a set of Hella Supertones. Or if you're near Wayne Subaru, you can speak to Pat in parts and see if set you up with a set as well. I haven't swapped the horns in my Legacy yet, but switching the Supertones with the stock horns was a pretty easy swap on my WRX.
rao
In order to remove the horn you have to remove the bumper cover; someone posted some pics. I installed some Hellas for a friend and lef tthe stock horns in place and mounted the Hellas in front behind the grill. Do a search and you will find more details on each. Guest *Jedimaster*
I put a new horn in- I used a pair of high and low horns from Autozone. Eventually, I'll throw in a set of horns from a late model Cadillac so people know to GTF out of my way ;) I put the Autozone ones in temporarily only because I couldn't stand that little " beep beep " horn the car came with. PGT
I got supertones from rallyparts.com - they came in two days. I have more stuff on the way from Paul @ AVO - lip spoiler and grille. Since I am going to be taking the bumper off to install those parts, I figured I would wait until they arrive to install the horns. My car sounds pretty silly compared to our '05 Mini Cooper S (with a 'real' horn).
QTwo
Does anyone have sound clips of the horns? I just checked the Hella site and they have descriptions but no audio. Trying to find the Italian type horn sound (authoritative, but melodious) versus the girlie horn on the Leg.
kanoswrx
Anyone have any write ups on how to install these? How long does it take and how much wiring is needed?
Rockinblue
Japanese cars are notorious for equipping cars with wimpy horns. Here's the other thread with horn related info: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1418&page=3&pp=10& Also, the good folks over at mazda3forums have had good luck with horn replacement. Included in the thread are some links with horn sounds. There are some folks that say the Mazda6 horn won a "best sounding horn" competition in Japan. heh... only in Japan... http://mazda3forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1088& One guy went through the trouble of installing big ass air horns in his little Mazda3. The link has a video with sound. skubdu
I have the Hella supertones installed behind the grill. All I did is disconnect the wires from the original horn and connect my custom made 3ft.((2)one for each horn) wire with a male spade connector to the factory harness and the female spade connector on the supertones. I will try to record a clip soon with the sound of the Hella Supertones to compare to stock.
