^^^so your IPT tranny broke? I am having major problems with my VB so I sent it back up to them. The car was struggling to down shift and shift gears between 3rd and 4th. I am thinking worst case, is towing my car to IPT in jersey to get a built tranny but if you are having problems with it, I dont know if it is worth it.

Hmm. If your car is driveable why don't you just drive to NJ and have them make a few tweaks to your VB, test drive it. Then make a few more tweaks if it is not yet perfect.

If the tech seems to think line pressure is not the problem and your clutch packs are shot you can then just order the parts for the rebuild and have your friend install them :)

my friend isnt a tranny specialist and he is honest about what he can and cant do. I would rather have IPT do it. The car is not driveable, it wouldnt shift out of 1st or 2nd gear and felt like somebody was stepping on the brakes while I was applying the gas. Essentially I had to push the car to middle throttle just to get it to go 15 mph. So I towed in back to my buddies shop and sent the VB back up to IPT. It wasnt doing this before I took my VB out the first time, it was only slipping, thats why I think most definitely it is the VB now.

not sure what happen as I will need to pull the tranny out and inspect. The flexplate is cracked most likely for tq and hp.. I have done very little power braking so i doubt it craked from that. outside of the flexplate cracked the tranny seems to be fine.

any other ideas why the flexplate would crack other than TQ and HP?

should I start another thread? thanks all

join the club. I shattered my flexplate and destoyed the ipt tc. It was due to the tc bolts coming loose. IPT fault and they replaced free of chrage. Make sure you use locktite on those blots. Also, it was from the vb shifting too hard. it was slamming into gears and that was what caused the tc bolts to come loose. Runs like a charm now and no chattering. Make sure the vb is adjusted correctly on the fully built ipt trannies. Jersey Glock and I had the same problem. PM me if you have anymore questions.

I think I have asked this before but do you think a twinscroll setup is relatively safe on a 5eat with an upgraded VB?

Only if you have a vb upgrade. If you don't have a vb upgrade, do not go twinscroll. Jerseyglock is making the same power as me with an 18g, 93 octane with meth. So even with that kind of setup, you need a vb because the peak torque will destroy the clutch packs in between shifts. Imagine burning the clutch in every gear on a manual gear. Its ok to go twinscroll on a stock 5eat if you go with a bigger turbo like a 20g or bigger, since peak boost will be later.

problem is, we dont' have very direct size turbo comparisons for twinscroll versus single scroll...

only thing i've seen is 30r class turbo's in twinscroll versus single, and for them, the twinscroll advantage is really minimal (Maybe 200rpm, probably less).

Yeah I would obviously get the VB upgrade first if I did the twinscroll. I am really interested in your setup, the PE1825 sounds like a fun turbo.

I remember reading that your car dynoed at 311 whp and from what I heard 5eats dyno at least 10% less than a MT. So your car is probably making more like 320-330 whp with insane spool because the turbo is getting flashed by the TQ converter.

I just do not know if the VB upgrade is enough to sustain the life of the transmission

Also a twinscroll would be a little more costly than say using a wrx fitment 20g or FPGreen, Sz49 etc.... Although I have seen some great packages lately that have the entire setup (Excluding FMIC and Fueling) for between 1000-1700 on Nasioc and here. Which obviously does not include the PE 1825 clone work by deadbolt :(

i have to agree with Mike. The diffrence from a twinscroll turbo to a well made single scroll turbo is very minimal. The extra 200 rpm does make a huge diffrence in auto-x. Daily driven, you probably won't notice the difference. Its all in the tune.

I'm curious as to what a "VB" is??

Its a Valve Body modification of the automatic transmission. A shop that is most familiar with doing them for our cars is IPT (Import Performance Transmissions). You will see an "IPT VB" acronym on the forum.

I don't know the details of what they do, but they modify the internal mechanicals of your transmission to make it shift differently. As far as I know, nobody has taken the time to crack the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) for these cars. I know that with HP Tuners software, you could tune automatic LS1 cars' shift points through the ECU, nice and easy.

Just do a search for "valve body" and you will find all sorts of info.

Question:

Would you not get the same performance (not longevity) out of your 5EAT if you added a Pitch Mount with a tranny cooler and a Tranny Insert Mount from Rallitek? Versus a VB upgrade?

This VB upgrade is confusing me!

not even close.

the valve body and solenoids are part of your transmission.

Search is your friend. ;)

Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!

mounts reduce overall shifting of the entire transmission housing and motor...

VB decreases shift time/delay due to increased line pressure/stronger springs, etc. a VB upgrade can definately extend the life of an auto. The less time slipping(and generating heat) and more time locked up extends the life of the fluid and clutch paks.
